 Hi John,

this are stick-on labels, which I printed in a regular deskjet

device which allows to center it on a blank CD). I think I read on the
web, that these might cause issues at high speed, but that's not been
my experience so far (couple years).

[Emc-users] How does EMC build bicycles / Re: Scale and Rotate

2008-05-18 Thread Rob Jansen
 How does EMC2 build bicycles?

 John

Easy, just write G-code to mill a mold, apply carbon cloth and epoxy resin
in the mold, inser a tube (a bike's inner tube) and bolt the mold together.
Then apply pressure to the inner tube and let the epoxy harden.

This is how I make bikes. Until now the molds have been created by hand from
plugs (a model) created by another company (or hand made ones).
In a few weeks I'll start making my own plug and molds using EMC2 to build a
new bike that will be used for record attempts.

Re: [Emc-users] Micro stepper driver MSD542 / KL-5042

2008-05-18 Thread John Thornton
There is a step timing chart here:

http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?Stepper_Drive_Timing

note that the MSD542 timing is not confirmed but should get you started.

Does it move at all when you try and jog? Tell us a bit more about what you do
and
what you get and what you expected...

 Hi
I am still having trouble configuring a stepper machine with MSD542
aka KL-5042 micro stepper drivers. I am getting far better results
when configured with MACH 3 and can only think that it is the way it
 configures the drivers.

In the data sheet it reads..

'For reliable response, pulse width should be longer than 2.5us. and
For reliable motion response, DIR signal should be ahead of PUL signal
 by 5us at least'

How can I set up EMC with these values? I very much want to use open
source software as much as possible, so if any one is using these
drivers I would very much like to hear from them.

 Thanks

Re: [Emc-users] Scale and Rotate

2008-05-18 Thread Greg Michalski
Since you haven't addressed John's question about whether in view or
machining - I'll tag on about the PyVCP - If you are expecting a panel to
appear because you clicked the include custom PyVCP button in stepconf you
won't - it simply includes a blank file that is already tied into the GUI
for you to add you custom PyVCP xml code to. That might be something to add
to the Stepconf interface to assist the noob's understand what it is really
doing. I will admit, I was expecting some blank panel to appear when I
first opened Axis - even with reading the manual - but then saw all the code
examples on the wiki and elsewhere. :)

And cool response on the bicycles! Do try and post some pics of your future
molds and the resultant product.

Hi John,

Do scale and/or rotate exist in EMC2?

 for display or machining?

  For machining.

   Where is my PyVCP hiding?

did it disapear or you never had it and want it?

I never had it and want it.

what is the code you are using to create your PyVCP?

Code? What is this code. Seriously, I don't know anything about the
PyVCP. I just keep hearing it referred to and I can't find out much
about it other than I think it would be handy. Do I have to construct it
from scratch?

 How does EMC2 build bicycles?

I make bicycles. EMC is helping me make bicycle parts. A bike frame is
not just tubes, but lots of little parts that get welded on and in
between the tubes.

So far I have machined some test parts and turned one widget that
has made it to production.

[Emc-users] Differences....

I'm currently running EMC2 under Ubuntu 6.02 and have just downloaded
the version that runs under the Hardy Heron release of Ubuntu. What

Re: [Emc-users] Differences....

None, really.

If you have EMC2 2.2.5 (that's the latest version in the 6.06
repositories), then you have the latest EMC2. There is no reason to
move to Ubuntu 8.04 for a working system, unless there's some hardware
in the PC that doesn't work with 6.06 but does with 8.04. (Assuming you
actually need that hardware). Updated EMC2 packages will continue to be
released for 6.06 at least until next year, since Ubuntu will still be
supporting it until then.

[Emc-users] Can emc do this? Not normal homing...

2008-05-18 Thread xtra209
I'm interested in turning hand drum shells. The shells will be similar
but not exact in the rough form.

I would like to manually home the headstock end of the lathe to the
diameter and length of the shell then manually home the tailstock end of
the lathe to length and diameter of the shell and use the line between
these two as the X axis.

As an example... there would be two home points: (I'm making up numbers
here!) one could be X0, Y10 and the other home point could be X24, Y7.
Then I would like the X axis to be a straight line between these two points.

I could learn to use X, Z coordinates like lathes usually use...

Anyway, can emc home like this? And if so where can I find more information?

Am I totally out in the weeds on this one?

Thanks,

Clint
