First of all, I really love terminology. Kudos to everyone involved!
I have two small issues with it though:

 1. I really like the typing sound in terminology, but it has too much volume.
I have to set my mixer levels way down but then volumes for other apps aren't
right. Is there a way to set the volume for the typing sound?

unfortunately there is no way to change volume other than mess with the
original samples. there is an option to mute this in elementary_config tool
(mute input sounds), that's it.

 2. I don't see any thumbnails with tyls -m. I don't remember errors on
compilation but is there any library that I could be missing? Or is this
 currently not working?

i think ethumbd is not working for you. maybe a dbus service problem - missing
ethumbd dbus service file or noty installed in the right place? configure tells
you to make symlinks if needed etc. on compile...

 Thanks for the help!

[e-users] Only first virtual desktop uses tiling

2014-09-20 Thread Tassilo Horn
Hi all,

I've just started using E19 and I like it. I use the tiling profile.
However, only the first virtual desktop actually tiles. On every other
desktop windows start in floating mode and there's no way to tile them.
(They have [ ] at the Floating window menu entry, so not the
individual windows are set floating but the complete desktop is.)

I just noticed that after configuring E19 to my likings, so maybe that
behavior is caused by my configuration. (I changed the default of 4
virtual desktops side-by-side to 4 desktops on top of each other, if
that makes a difference...)

Any help is very welcome!

Is that a bug?

Have you tried right-clicking on the systray area, the go to

I've done that, and still the icons are not shown. But in the meantime

[e-users] E19 and multiple Xrandr outputs

2014-09-20 Thread Tassilo Horn
Hi,

I have some questions concerning E19 with multiple outputs (in Xrandr
parlance), i.e., I have my laptop LCD and an external LCD attached.

1. How can I configure my shelve so that it is always displayed on the
primary output? Whenever I use an external monitor, that's should be
the primary one and I'd prefer if the shelve was shown there instead
of the secondary output (the laptop LCD).

2. How can I move a window from one output to the other? I've tried the
To Next Screen/To Previous Screen actions in the Window: Moving
category of the Key Bindings but that doesn't work. I guess that's
probably for real X screens which nowadays nobody uses anymore...

3. Is there some Xrandr config tool for enlightenment? The Screen setup
settings don't work too well for me. Especially, I frequently have
to do presentations, and then a quick mirror outputs in the best
solution that's doable by the projector and my laptop LCD knob would
   be nice.

Thanks in advance,
Tassilo

Re: [e-users] Only first virtual desktop uses tiling

2014-09-20 Thread David Myers
Tassilo,

I don't know how E19 handles tiling, but with a 'true' tiling window
manager (twm) you attach windows to keyboard shortcuts, creating a
personalised group of stuff you like to have together.

Ultimately it is these shortcuts that act as a 'virtual desktop', as a twm
doesn't normally need a virtual desktop as you may be used to it.

Personally I have to admit that I have never been able to keep track of the
windows I have open. And with a eeepc the screen just isn't big enough to
have more that one app on full screen at a time any others jus sit over the
top as required.

Sounds to me like the solution in E is rather good. Best ,or is it worst,
of both worlds. I'll have to try it.

David.

arandr is pretty nice. it will allow you to setup the screens, then you
can save this to an xrandr script that will put it back that way.

was dropped just taking whatever randr say the screen numbers are to avoid
weird moving-around of stuff.

 2. How can I move a window from one output to the other? I've tried the
To Next Screen/To Previous Screen actions in the Window: Moving
category of the Key Bindings but that doesn't work. I guess that's
probably for real X screens which nowadays nobody uses anymore...

no it doesn't mean that. it means what you think. window:moving - move to next
screen / move to previous screen .. work for me. not virtual desktops... to
screen - like monitor. i just tested it. you can move windows also by just
dragging them across to the other screen or use the pager to do it (dnd mini
window from pager on one screen to the pager on the other). also menu move
to.. select screen + desktop to send the window too (alt+right mouse on menu
or clikc icon on titlebar). so there are a plethora of ways of doing this

 3. Is there some Xrandr config tool for enlightenment? The Screen setup
settings don't work too well for me. Especially, I frequently have

screen setup is the tool. otherwise use xrandr (it's a cmdline tool 0 not part
of e - part of x11 tools).

to do presentations, and then a quick mirror outputs in the best
solution that's doable by the projector and my laptop LCD knob would
be nice.

one of these days i'll go fix up multi screen setup to do things like when i
plug in a screen pop up dialog to ask if the new screen should expand (which
way) or mirror some existing screen. that was on the list of stuff to do. also
current dialog has some problems with resize and positioning - close, but not
quite there (corner cases).

 Thanks in advance,
 Tassilo

   Hi All,

I'm running e19 from git. I just updated, but I'm having an issue that's
been for a while (didn't reported earlier because was about a month
   out-of-date).

The thing is that everythin is working fine until I open a video in full
screen. I'm having the same behaviour with flash videos (from chrome) and
   local videos (smplayer2).

The problem is that E segfaults, but I'm not getting the white screen of
dead. The apps remain there visible (no decorations) and I have to
  restart
X to get things up again.

as I mentioned earlier, I just recompiled E19 to latest git, but just to
  be
sure befure I updated/reinstalled all the mesa libs and nvidia closed
   drivers (with opengl headers).

the only error I can get is from ~.xsession-error, which now is
gone..ok, I just triggered it again to capture it, I can reproduce it
   every time.

I checked .e-crashdump.txt and it's empy. I also got this in dmesg:

Re: [e-users] push window to a different screen?

 Greets,

I have 3 monitors set up, and are working great. I use blender with 3
windows open on a single file, one full screen on each screen, and that
 too is awesome for working.

My question is, when I first start blender, it pops all 3 windows open
over each other on my primary monitor. I'd like to hotkey it so I can
say ctl-alt-1 to push one on my left monitor, and ctl-alt-3 to push
 another onto my right monitor.

if e can differentiate the windows, it can do this for you via remembers. ie
ICCCM properties it has name and class both at Blender every time you run it.
if it could add let's say Role props and allow you to set them on the cmdline
or modify name to be view1 or view2 or whatever u specify (keep class as it
is as that is often the per-app domain)...

i know of no such option for blender, but hunt to see if perhaps something
exists undocumented or maybe put in as a feature request. it's a trivial
request, but one that would allow power users as yourself to really make
blender do this out-of-the-box. the reason e can't do it is it just can't know
which window is which. they all are the same to it unless the app provides
specific identifiers that are set by the time the window is shown and this is
the apps job.

ps - you could do an LD_PRELOAD hack to override some xlib api calls that set
name and class hints - XSetClassHint() is the one you want. you're in advanced
land here.

 I configured: settings-settings panel-input-key\
bindings-window:moving-to {previous, next} screen to these hotkeys,
which appear as CTL+ALT+KP_END, and CTL+ALT+KP_NEXT respectively, but
 they produce no observable effect.

Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?

running 0.17.6 on debian jessie @sid

maybe it was broken on 0.17 - works on 0.19. :)

 Thanks,
 -C

I face this problem since e18 and at each release this problem get worse.

Maybe the developers will want to enable the shelf autohide feature. I
suspect that the problem will expose earlier with shelf autohide.

I too have had some problems with icon display in the system tray.
I've found that sometimes on new boots the tray will expand with apps
but will not have any icons visible. A quick fix for me is to restart
E, they all become visible then. I've also had the case where the tray
doesn't expand with apps, I fixed that condition by enabling Xembed in
the system tray settings, then if the tray expands but there are no
icons visible restart E.

Hope that helps.

+1 for this, I'm having same issue but with NV binary drivers. Also,
sometimes, some of the icons get in front of fullscreen apps (like a video).

I ended up removing the systray mod
