You can run X3.3.6 with hardware acceleration, but it is a little bit more tricky to get working than with X4.0. Xfree86.org has details on how to set it up. I haven;t seen any mandrake tools that simplify the procedure. --

I assure you it DOES matter. First off, gears by default runs in a small window on your desktop. If it is only around 100 FPS at that size, then it will be below 30 FPS fullscreen. This applies to games, which is the main point of having the hardware acceleration (and a decent vid card).
