Well, on the path of getting a soundblaster card running (ens1371) I find
that I'm short of some devs /files.
MAKEDEVS sound doesn't give me the results, in fact it results in an error
message (operastion not permitted - yes, I am root)

lan worked well under samba also.

Sounds to me as if you may need to check the docs (extensive) that came with
Samba. I have had similar problems with Samba and the problem was finally
resolved when I imported a file into the Windows (NT in my case) registry
which reset the windows machine to accept un-encrypted passwords.
The only HP-UX I have used has been on HP Risc processor boxes. If the s/w
was compiled for one of these then it certainly won't run on a pc.
