I agree with everything Belinda has said.
I'm a little more 'out there' than most, but I just truly believe a vaccinated, adult cat is not going to 'catch' leukemia. Period.
Kittens are very susceptible and need to be vaccinated asap. I would be very leery of mixing even a fully vaccinated ki
Hi Terri,
I agree with almost everything Jenn said, except I'm not a fan of
Cornell, in fact I think almost all of their info about FeLV is very
out-dated. And I think the viruses life span outside of the host

It's highly unlikely any of your healthy adult
cats could have caught the virus, even with prolonged contact. It's almost
always kittens under one year of age, or immune compromised cats (FIV+) that
catch it from carriers. I would definitely test any cats that are weak, or under
a year of ag

Sorry this is so long, new to list and lots to say and ask.

Dear Sally:
Did the cats test positive on both an ELISA and an IFA test? If they were
just tested with the ELISA (the in-house snap test), this test is much more
sensitive to the antigen produced by the replicating virus so it can be an
indication of an infection which may only be transitory a

FeLV is worse than FIV, in that most cats infected with it do not live to old
age. Some do, though, and some live to middle age. There are people on this

My name is Sally, and I work with a
cat rescue organization in Oklahoma City, OK. We have recently rescued two
kitties who have tested positive for FeLV. Both kitties appear healthy and
have no symptoms. One kitten named Bobbie is about four months old,
and we are giving her interferon.

Good luck Marlene, and a big hug for Pekoe!

Hello All,
I'm new to this list. I
Look at the artivcle on Immuno-regulin on this group's web site. Also the archived messages on feline interferon. If your cat is killing her own red blood cells she may need steroids for a while to reverse that. I would take her to an internist if you can.

Welcome Marlene,
I am sorry to hear about your kitty Pekoe, but most of us on this list have our kitties co-exist. I have 6 kitties and 1 has FeLV, and one currently passed from FeLV (we think). They are all using same kitty litter boxes and eating some out of the same dishes.
