Hemobartenella, comes from a flea bite. Cats with feline leukemia are
particularliy succeptible. Here is a link explaining

Hope kitty feels better soon.

My sweet little Bright Eyes died this afternoon. He was just 7 months old
and had been healthy until a few weeks ago. Nothing I did seem to help. He
just faded away.

He was one of a litter of four FeLV+ babies I rescued last July. He was the
big boy. Always 1st to the food and 1st for loving. If someone else was in my
lap he would climb on top of them for his loving. I've spent these last few
days just holding and loving him.

The other three seem perfectly healthy. No idea why this disease took him
and hasn't affected the others yet. All four were on the same diet ad
supplements.

He is now happy and healthy playing in those green meadows with all the other
angels.

[Felvtalk] Anemia

2009-01-17 Thread Graca Azevedo
Hi everybody,

I hope all of you are as fine as it can be.   I am writing from Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil.  My five years old cat has been treated on AZT and interferon for 2
years and half.  Tonight I heard that he has lymphoid leukemia.  I have been
given him the best cat food sold in Brazil:  Hills.  And I just started to give
him Hills for kitten and Hills A/D.  And as soon as I find an opened pet shop,
he will start on Metacel (a medication for anemia).  The vet suggested blood
transfer when hematocrit reaches 12,0 (now is 13,05).  I wouldn't like to put
him through such pain.
I would like very much to hear about your experience and opinion.

kind regards,

Graça Azevedo

Hi guys,

I wanted to give everyone an update on Tofu.

First, she did test pos on the IFA:(

But what is really really good is that she is going to a real home - not a
sanctuary but a HOME - she's being adopted!

Please don't contribute anything else to her (a big thank you to those who
did and thank you letters will go out soon) but we do not need any more
money for her. I will put another cat in need on my sig line soon, I'm sure
there will be one.

the Imulan she is back to her old goofy self. She's not anemic but her

I started to answer this and I am using a laptop, new to me. I am already a
terrible typist so somehow the whole response got deleted before i could
send it. Drat,

Anyway I will always look for the why. I think a friend of mine gave me a
reassuring one for why.

She said Baby Girl was obviously older than we thought. She had no teeth
except for a canine.

My friend a vet assistant and former nurse, she say probably one of three
things.

Toxin, doubtful as I think her death would have been sooner. We are under
strict guidelines for storage and use of pesticides.

Heart disease, and underlying symptoms

Thrombosis and in conjunction w/heart disease. I think likely. It hit her
very suddenly. She had blood coming out of her mouth right before she died.

She had a good six years with us and will always be missed.

Please add sweet Baby Girl to the CLS if possible she was not positive but
had 7 good years as a Feral cat next to where I work.

Here is what happened:

Yesterday I noticed the cat at work (a TNR feral) named Baby Girl was not
feeling good. She has had a URI on and off, but never seemed affected by
her. This time she was not eating and even allowed me to touch her. Normally
she would have swatted me. We discussed taking her to the ER but we did not
have a way to catch her or anything to put her in and it was closing. Today
before I even got to work Pat, who is really Baby Girls momma with the help
of another girl caught her. She had not eaten any food left for her
yesterday. So Angel first went to a vet that is one street over from us.
They could not see her gave names of other vets. I already decided to call
my vet who is also close. She could not be seen until 3:30 first . She was
in distress and I had noticed she was cold to the touch although she was
kept by a heater all day.

I drive her to Junior's vet. Since she is feral I also notified the guy,
Phil who looks after her colony. She is only one of 3 or 4 cats that hang
out next to us. He said they would probably test her for FELV in fact he
wanted her tested. They vet had a hard time getting blood she was so wek she
did not fight. Her temp was 94. The vet though she would test positive but
she was negative for FELV and FIV. She had pnuemonia and was now coughing
blood and she was shutting down. The vet was sure she was dying
and euthanized her. Of course it was a heart stick and I decided I did not
need to watch. It was over before I even was out of the room. The test came
back after she was pts. I called Phil to let him know. He will adopt out any
who are adoptable and has kept many cats himself.

Anyway I will miss Baby Girl. She was just getting freindly after 6 years
and would rub up against all that she used to run away from. The vet was
so kind she is going to bury her in her yard . She is now an Angel.
