Good afternoon everyone,

I am sending out this email on behalf
of Dr. Bruce Legallis of Eastwood Animal clinic here in Rutland. We at
the RCHS work closely with him.  Some of you may have seen the emails
that Dr. Legallis is dealing with a hoarder situation in Weston, VT on
his own because , to quote the email, "The
local animal rescues, humane societies and animal control refuse to get
involved."  This perplexed some of us because we knew nothing of the
situation.  I spoke with Dr. Legallis yesterday and he wanted to
apologize to all Vermont humane socieites for this statement as he  had
yet to approach any of us!  He is working with national breed rescue
organizations to place the cats after they are health  Oh, and Bruce
doesn't have email which is another reason I am sending this out!
Any questions, please feel free to email or call.  Thanks,

We're still trying to validate this. So far, no
shelters that we've contacted in VT have even been directly contacted about
this. Also, bengals and bengal mixes are illegal/regulated in some states
so we're investigating which states could legally offer assistance.

Hi,
I hope Bramble is feeling somewhat better today.  I don't know if you posted or someone else about your kitty having a hot head and ears with a normal rectal temp..I have a 14 yr old that does this all the time..It is his blood pressure...When it is elevated, his ears are red and his head is really hot...with a normal temp..You might ask about that..
Also, my Bandy is on oxazepam .1ml transdermal twice daily for an appetite stimulant..
Hope this is of some help..
We will keep you and Bramble in our prayers..

Thanks for the compliment, I really don't do THAT
much. Bones is doing GREAT, she's a happy crazy little girl, just like any
normal kitten. I think she is under a year old, she still has kitten attitude.
She tears around the house, attacks the other cats, bats around all kinds of
toys, and screams like a banshee when you pick her up or try to hold her still
(and I am convinced it is NOT pain, it's pure rebellion). She is quite the
little rebel! She parades around the house like she is the queen,

I don't know anything about any of that, I have
never spoken to the doctor. I have been speaking to Donna, from Bengal rescue,
and Linda, from NOAH rescue in MA. They are both involved with the removal
effort. I have been told that most likely, the cats have bred into each other,
as in Bengal/Abyssinian crosses, so you couldn't be much less inbred than that.
Of course, they very well may have line bred/inbred as well, after all, it IS
just a house full of loose breeding cats.

What is the local Humane Society down there
anyways? All the ones around here are full, and not accepting at this
time.

for it is surgical removal of the Spleen, from what I have been
reading so far. Anybody ever had that done?

On the same note, is anyone interested in adopting a Abyssinian or

need homes by WEDNESDAY. Rescues are welcome to take GROUPS of cats.

This is a quite overwhelming situation, we need your help! PLEASE only
respond if you can be in the northeastern USA area this week, these
cats will NOT be shipped. These cats are rumored to have ringworm, but
otherwise are supposed to be in fairly good health. Some will be
purebred registered cats, but we can not guarantee that you will get
their papers with them (these are RESCUE cats, and MUST be
spayed/neutered, not to be used for breeding). The vet that is
rescuing them will spay/neuter, update rabies, and put Frontline
on any that can be done, before releasing them to adopters or
rescuers. Pregnant queens will NOT be aborted, so it is possible that
we will need homes for queens expecting kittens (kittens may or may
not be registerable, at this point, I do not know if papers will be
released). If you can take on special needs cats (the preggo queens,

Please add Sunshine to the CLS (she's FIV, not FELV). The golden

I had her for about a week. She did eat a little, and we gave her

Dearest Gloria,
I'm sorry to hear about Sunshine's passing. It doesn't matter how long
we know them, when these sweet, struggling souls enter our lives we
invest our love and care and pray for miracles. There was of course a
miracle, she found you. She found someone in you that provided her with

would put aside the fears and pain to try, against the odds to bring her

so many. Bless your heart and bless sweet, fragile Sunshine. You've
got an army of grateful souls watching over you, on this plane and the next.

With much love,

kitty Sunshine showed up in a friend's back yard, unable to walk, and
I had her for about a week. She did eat a little, and we gave her
fluids and soft foods and meds. But there was something about her
brain and nervous system, and she did test positive for FIV. When I
got her, she couldn't walk, she was conscious and ate a little, but
she deteriorated. At some point she started having seizures and we
gave her a little sedative, and she never woke up. She was a sweet,
young, yellow FIV kitty who probably just didn't appropriate care in
her short lifetime.

Sleep soft sweet Sunshine.

(OT) anybody know anything about PK deficiency in cats? (and calling on NE USA cat lovers)

2005-08-07 Thread Jenn

Anybody know anything about, or ever dealt with
erythrocyte pyruvate kinase (PK) deficiency in a cat? It's recessive gene breed
issue in Somali and Abyssinian cats. Is there a yahoo group that deals with
it?

I'm about to get some Abyssinian rescues in, and
just wanted do a bit of research on it before-hand, just in case. Supposedly,
the "cure" for it is surgical removal of the Spleen, from what I have been
reading so far. Anybody ever had that done?

On the same note, is anyone interested in
adopting a Abyssinian or Bengal (or cross between the two) cat in the Vermont/
New Hampshire/ Eastern NY areas (or willing to drive to the northeastern
USA area to pick one up)? We are seeking adoptive homes for 150 hoarder
situation cats. If enough homes are not found, cats WILL be euthanised. They
need homes by WEDNESDAY. Rescues are welcome to take GROUPS of cats. If you can
help, please contact: Donna at [EMAIL PROTECTED] (with the
subject: "VT Aby/Bengal - ADOPT" ) as soon as possible to make arrangements and
be screened. You can tell her Jenn from the UCAT rescue told you about the
situation. This is a quite overwhelming situation, we need your help! PLEASE
only respond if you can be in the northeastern USA area this week, these cats
will NOT be shipped. These cats are rumored to have ringworm, but otherwise are
supposed to be in fairly good health. Some will be purebred registered cats, but
we can not guarantee that you will get their papers with them (these are RESCUE
cats, and MUST be spayed/neutered, not to be used for breeding). The vet that is
rescuing them will spay/neuter, update rabies, and put Frontline on any
that can be done, before releasing them to adopters or rescuers. Pregnant queens
will NOT be aborted, so it is possible that we will need homes for queens
expecting kittens (kittens may or may not be registerable, at this point, I do
not know if papers will be released). If you can take on special needs cats (the
preggo queens, or sick cats, or PK cats, or anything out of the norm) be sure to
mention that in your email to Donna.

Gloria, so sorry to hear about the loss of
another sweet young baby. Take heart in knowing that at least she knew a short
span of human kindness before she lost her fight.
