Hi Bonnie,
So sorry that Lucky is having urinary issues. If he is going in the litter box
and crying, and not producing urine, I would take him
back in or call the vet immediately.
Did he have the surgery to remove his penis, can't think of the name of it,
sorry,
or did he just have a
Hi Bonnie,
I can relate. Two of my positives are also struvitecrystal formers. Two mainquestions.
What is he eating?
Was a culture and sensitivitydone to confirm actual bacterial infection, or did the Vet just prescribe abx, and what wasLucky taking? Uroeze is a urine acidifier, so I guess
I agree, left alone the condition is lethal.

Gosh, thanks so much for the encouragement. I just called made an
appointment to take Lucky back to the vet in 45 minutes.
And I’ll join the FLUTD group – that will be helpful.
He’s on Uroeze because he didn’t like CD food formulated to help with
this….maybe just straight canned Wellness
Great information, Margo. Thanks a million! I have some questions for my vet.
Lucky was on Antrobe Aquadrops for a u.t.i.
If it isn’t crystals, I wonder what it could be. Maybe still u.t.i.? the vet
didn’t say anything about idiopathis cystitis (that I recall).
Lucky eats (as do the other
Hi Bonnie,
Great that you are taking him in, good luck at the vet visit. Hope he gets some
relief.
This is just anecdotal, but numerous folks on the FLUTD list have had their
cats block while feeding Wellness brand.
Probably best to avoid that brand, or if you use it, rotate with other brands
I wasn't trying to be discouraging, but it is an urgent situation that requires
immediate attention from a vet. I had a cat with a urinary blockage she
almost died. I'd hate to see your lose your baby.

2 things I can think of right away, does he get enough water and try some apple
cider vinegar, not th ovcer processed stuff, get Bragg's, shake it up and add a
few drops to his water.
I have gone thru this with both males and females. Doesn't always work,
sometimes I get it started too late.
We spent a lot of time (and almost $500) at the vet today. The great news
is Lucky's blood work looks real good, as do his x-rays (he does have some
arthritis in his back). He has no apparent blockages (tumors) in his
urinary tract. They did not see any crystals. The vet did say his bladder

Had not heard that about Wellness before, may have to watch it because of
Harley and Homey who is female, but does have problems with bladder infections.
DAMN, WHY CAN;'T WE FIND A FOOD THAT DOESEN'T CAUSE PROBLEMS?

Hi Bonnie,
All in all, I'd say that's good news. I try to avoid dry food, but the RC SO is what I have for those times someone is stubborn or insistent on dry food. They like it :) I haven't tried the canned, for wet food I use EVO, Hounds and Gatos, and others with basically meat only. That's
no research, just an interview with the ceo and he said well it is protein.
i like the wellness turkey mostly because that is one T hey will eat. they

Hi,
Could you provide a link to that? Or some other well documented source
coroborating that information? I use RC SO when I need to add dry, so I'd like
to be informed, but that contradicts what my research has shown.

I know, the food issue is and issue! I would feed them frozen (thawed) mice
if I thought it'd keep them healthy!
No magic formula I guess. When it comes down to it, human animals face
similar problems. Our diet helps or hurts us, depending.

I had been feeding them all EVO dry food. I'm going to try Lucky on Royal
Canin SO diet (canned). My fingers are crossed he'll eat it!

That is encouraging news. My vet said there used to something in Science Diet
that caused this, too, ut they changed the formula. Not hat SD is the greatest
food to begin with.

Thanks!
I feel better about my RC. It's a minor part of their diet, but I don't feed them the hypoallergenic dog food that's made from feathers .Iresearched the science behind the hydrolyzed hypo-allergenic foods when I had a dog with issues, so I understand some of that.
I misunderstood, and
Hi Bonnie,
Since there was no evidence of crystals, Id just go for a high meat
canned food (like the EVO 95% varieties), without the acidifiers. Using that
could incline him towards oxylate stones, which are much more difficult to deal
with.

Thanks, Margo (and everyone who helped). Lucky actually ate the RC s/o diet
tonight! And he is at least going out to the cat boxes in the garage rather
than trying to pee in the house. We have some anti-inflammatory to help
with his urgency I hope.
Hopefully we're crossing a bridge toward
