Dr Plechner Blood test - Hideyo

2005-06-03 Thread Belinda Sauro
Yes it is the test he suggests and was sent to the lab he has listed
on his website. I called them to ask how much they charged when I got
the bill from my vet and they charge $120.00 per test. Maybe the cost
he mentions is with his fee for handling and shipping.

Did your kitties get treated on his treatment? If so, how did it go? I
am very curious because of my OB is getting thinner and thinner - and so
is his hair..and I want to try it -
Did you use Antech or Idexx lab?

PS. I forgot to mention the first test she sent they never got, so
maybe she charged me a little something for that, we had to draw blood a
second time. Poor babies, they really hate that :(

Re: Dr Plechner Blood test - Hideyo

2005-06-03 Thread Belinda Sauro

 Hi,
This is the lab on his website that he has listed as doing the test:

National Veterinary Diagnostic Services (N.V.D.S)
27994 Bradley Rd., Suite 1
Sun City, CA 92586
Phone: (951) 672-1494
Website: www.national-vet.com

Their cortisol was very low for both, their estrogen was
alittle high on both, their T3 and T4 was normal for both and the IgA,
IgM, IgG's were low on both.

My vet put them both on prednisilone, and Joey was on metronidazole for
his off and on diarrhea. But the most important thing was to get them
both on hypoallergenic food, so I decided to make their food because
everyone around here eats the same thing and the hypoallergenic was
just too expensive and they didn't like it. It costs me about 7 or 8
dollars a day to feed them and I haven't got it down pat yet, I'm still
working onthe supplements and figuring out how much to put in. I'm
also trying to come up with a dry food by dehydrating because I have a
few that are dry food junkies. It will probably be a good month before
they are completly off of the Fancy Feast, right now they are getting
2/3 rds my stuff to 1/3 rd FF, but until I'm sure they are getting all
of the supplements they need I can't take them completely off the FF,
my vet is reseaching but there isn't much info for cooked homemade
food, just raw :) The protocal he lists is for humans, I think my vet
talked to him and that's where she got the treatment we're following
(not positive of that though, it does say to replace the cortisol with
pred, or some other choice on his protocal sheet).

They've been on it for a while but until I can afford to retest I
really won't know how their levels are now and whether I need to adjust
the dose they are getting. With Bailey being positive we have to be
careful not to comprimise his immune system. Joey's diarrhea is much
better, and Bailey is eating better, he was starting to lose weight but
he also had stomastisis and had his teeth pulled, once that healed he
was eating good again. They have both gained alittle weight. Joey also
has mild to moderate cardiomyapathy we just found out, so we are also
going to start treatment for that shortly.

2005-06-03 Thread Belinda Sauro
I think I did ask my vet about that and she said something about the
way the pred works is better than a natural steriod for now. And they
are getting a very miniscual dose 1/4ccs once a week. Even at their
highest dose it was only 5ccs a day for 4 weeks, then we lowered it to
2ccs everyday for 4 weeks, then to 1 ccs daily for 4 weeks and then
lowered it again to 1/2ccs daily for 4 weeks and then went to 1/2ccs
every 3 days for 4 weeks, and now we're at 1/2ccs once a week (just
started that this week) and if their symptoms stay good we'll probably
stay there until I get them completely switched to homemade and then get
them retested. So they have been on it for quite a while. I watch them
very closely :)

I'm in Washington state and the vet I've used for years is very open
to anything I suggest, I told her about it and faxed over some info and
his website and she researched it and thought it sound interesting, she
was surprised at their bloodwork results. She is always going to
continued education conferences, infact she just got back and learned
some new stuff about heart disease. Which is good since we are having
to deal with it now. She is learning acupuncture and more holistic
things. I've always said if she ever moves I'll have to sell my house
and move too :)

PS. She comes to the house for anything they don't need office
equipment for (we even did their vaccines here the last two years, I
hold them to draw blood), because she knows what a paranoid mom I am and
how I worry about stressing them (the clinic is a 3 minute drive from my

I was going to talk to her about it, and I haven't - I am sure that she
will be open to this, but I feel more comfortable if she can talk to
someone who actually applied the practice like your vet - My vet, she is
also a very nice special person, too.

2005-06-03 Thread Belinda Sauro
She probably won't have alot to say until I can get them all
switched over to homemade food and get a retest on their bloodwork.
I'm not going to retest them until they are on the homemade food
completely. She can verify that they have both gained weight and Joey's
allergy symptoms are better. He was getting scabs on the sides of his
chin, being that his normal bloodwork was all OK, and with his
continuous diarrhea we suspect IBD. Then when the special bloodwork
came back showing his hormones are out of whack we decided to put them
both on pred and it has helped as far as the diarrhea and the scabs, he
gets them less frequently, and it takes months for all the toxins from
the crap food to get out of their system, but until I get them
completely off the Fancy Feast I won't really know how good they are
actually doing. Just made a new batch of food and am dehydrating a
batch for dry, only took me 2 hours to rollthem into bite size balls. I
sure hope they eat it :)
