What makes the $500/$1000 inadequate is that, from a rescue standpoint, older animals have to be fully vetted before they can be listed for adoption. That includes dental which is so expensive. Adopters are reluctant to take on older or special needs animals because they are afraid of the cost

Oh? Is this a nation-wide requirement or certain areas? And for senior animals only? I never heard that in my neck of the woods and have rescued and found homes for many dogs and several cats. Of course, they are usually younger and are always fully vetted before I take them out for Adoption Days
