Velocity does affect the attack on sustaining instruments -- it does
make the sound louder --- try it you'll hear.

I think he meant to say velocity can't make a sustained note get any
louder once it has started, like a crescendo.
There ARE many expressions that change the attack velocity - if you
have duplicated one of these expressions to edit and use in another
situation, you might have inadvertently
I find it impossible to get the balance I want this way. If there is a
further secret on this path i would surely like to know it.

Gerry,
Velocity only affects the amount of accent. If you have a velocity of
127 and a CC#68 value of 1, the sound will still be extremely soft.
Manually increasing the velocity in Finale won't correct balance
issues for GPO sustaining instruments -- it will just make the notes

Jerry,
Read my tutorial, especially the section on creating hidden
expressions that adjust mixer volume on the fly.
If you disable Human Playback entirely, you will never get good
results with GPO unless you are willing to do a staggering amount of
hand-tweaking. It's far better to
Could you give me the link to that Darcy?
I am still on FINMAC 2005 -- I bought 2006 but didn't like it much and
so far have skipped 2007.
Thank you

It's in the User Manual folder once you install the Fin2006b update.
GPO support in Human Playback is very limited in Fin2005. I have no
idea what you don't like about Finale 2005, but if GPO playback is
important to you, you are far, far, far better off in Fin2006.

Re 2006 -- I could not get it to sound right. The balance was off! :)

Hi.
Could anyone explain how I get louder volume out of strings and
softer volume out of keyboards? If I set velocity to all strings at
127 and keyboard at, say, 100, I can hardly hear the strings, yet the
keyboard is so loud as to be annoying. Similarly, even if there are no
I find that increasing volume and modulation helps balance this problem
out -- I usually hide the mod expressions. An mp mod, exp. should do
it.

Velocity does not affect the volume of sustaining instruments in GPO.

Again, you should NOT use any custom-programmed mod-wheel expressions
with GPO, hidden or otherwise. Use Human Playback, with regular (not
customized for playback) dynamic expressions.
