OK, thanks for the explanation! I had not realised that the partially binary distribution is to blame. Usually I only update everything when I have lots of time, as it takes quite a few hours to recompile GCC, hence I do not do it all that frequently but needed a feature in the new gnuplot. And

Just a note. I was re-installing fink from scratch just using the ./bootstrap and it hangs while downloading bzip2 http://distfiles.master.finkmirrors.net/distfiles/bzip2-1.0.6.tar.gz The file seems to download the whole thing immediately and then hang at 99% complete. The same URL hangs downl
