you can achieve the same navigation.

i did not look your code; but have a suggestion...
try using php's gd library ..write a php file reads the picture and
returns it as an image; than in flex; give the php file as the source of
the image... (i did not try; just a suggestion)

Just as an fyi ... the article by Christophe Coenraets that you provided the
link to was published pre Flex 2. Meaning during the Flex 1.x era. Quite a
