Jeff,
I'm in the same boat as you. However, I have worked out a way of using FOP
that doesn't require the use of batch files, environment variables and all
that other messy stuff that Windows developers left behind ages ago. What I
do is build a command line to java.exe that specifes everything
This is for all those developers out there that like the technology (XSL)
but aren't turning cartwheels over Java. That includes me.
And me.
Now you're speaking my language.

Subject: [PATCH] Page citations do not work in PSRenderer
Hi Darren
There is one problem, page-citations don't seem to work.
I've raised this myself about three times but so far but to no avail. It's
also been raised in at least two Bugzilla reports and been posted on this
mailing list by at least three other people (not including yourself). I
guess nobody is accepting responsibility for breaking it.

I discovered the other day that FOP has a PostScript renderer. This is very
handy because I am using psutils to do booklet PDF printing and it only
works on PostScript 3 files.
I had been using Ghostscript (pdf2ps) to convert PDFs output from FOP to
PostScript. I then use pstops to reduce,
How do I report a problem that I have found in the latest FOP distribution?

Right here, pretty much.

The table of contents example on page 2 of leader.fo isn't working now
either. It doesn't display the dots. I think this is related to the
percentage problem, because according to the doco, the default for
leader-length is 100%.
I'll try again.
If you run leader.fo using version 0.20, none of the examples that use a
percentage for leader-length work.
Is there some formal process for raising bug reports?

I had a similiar problem to this when running an FO file output from MSXML
through FOP. If my memory serves correctly, it was caused by the encoding,
which is UTF-16 by default. You need to set it to UTF-8. This may be because
MSXML by default places some binary data in the first byte or two of

I've noticed a bit of chat on the list the last few days concerning
performance. I'm having a few problems in that area and I wondered if anyone
had any suggestions. I have a 16 page document, consisting of text and
embedded images, which is presently taking 30 seconds to generate. I've

Forgive me if I show my ignorance of FOP internals, but isn't that going to
convert all text read by getBytes into ISO-8859-1. If that's the case, there
might be a few complaints from Unicode users (such as myself).

There should be (I hope) one in the binary download.
I grabbed Fop-0.19.0-CVS-bin.tar.gz the other day. I couldn't find the .bat
or .sh files mentioned in Running FOP. The only scripts in the archive are
the .bat and .sh versions of runtests and makedoc.
