Hi Dave,
One clean way to do it is to make a PDF of the student guide and import each
page as a graphic onto the left hand pages of the facilitator's guides.

Dear Brad.
I have contacted you sometimes last week regarding our project and
you seemed like the right person to help me -
What exactly is a FrameMaker typesetter?
And, why the absolute need for on-site availability?
If , as it seems, the job is to apply styles and paginate text in a
FrameMaker template, anyone anywhere should be able to complete the
project.

Dave,
I wonder if this might be the one situation where a B flow would be
useful.
Since the student's book is already in FrameMaker, and since their
content would probably change more often than the trainer's, this
solution would require two books. Once the content for student's book is

Hopefully, the problem is due to numbering series. How is the autonumber
string defined? What other series are used in the documents? How are the
captions created?

I don't profess to understand the cause, though I have seen autoconnect
problems before. But now that you've found it and believe it may be
from the import of data from Word, it is probably a good idea to perform
the "MIF Roundtrip" cleanup.
