Select *Once for every history clearing command* option and turn this option
off by UNCHECKING Show warning while clearing history option.

file corruption,
not because FM 7 can't -- it certainly can. FM is backward
compatible through all versions.

I have recd a Frame template document from a client with the extension .tpl
I've not seen this file extension before and whilst Frame opens the file
without problem, Windows doesn't recognis it as a FrameMaker file type.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what this is?

Yes! FrameMaker can't count what it can't see.
