As mentioned by Alan Houser, and previously reported by Mark Chulsky and

index, with some index entries including references to character formats
(e.g. to make some page numbers bold or to format the entry itself or
portions thereof). I encountered this too, and added an item for it at

Maintaining character tags in cross references

Hello all and best wishes for an amazing holiday season

It has been a while since I used Frame so I was trying to rememberis
there a way to maintain the character tags in a cross reference. For
example, the source text has been neatly formatted with character tags to
emphasize the names of the menu options. When this text is cross referenced,
the character tag does not show up, although the text is correct, including
specially formatted areas. Am I forgetting something or is this impossible?

Thanks bunches for your help!

FM8 crashing when book building

Kanti,

As mentioned by Alan Houser, and previously reported by Mark Chulsky and
others, there is an issue with generating/updating a book which has an
index, with some index entries including references to character formats
(e.g. to make some page numbers bold or to format the entry itself or
portions thereof). I encountered this too, and added an item for it at
www.microtype.com/FM_bugs.html with the internal error messages reported
(different error messages show up in different books. I have also placed a
link to a sample book (one of the standard sample FM files) consistently
causing a crash when the book is updated:

Maintaining character tags in cross references

2007-12-17 Thread Jerilynne Knight
Hello all and best wishes for an amazing holiday season

It has been a while since I used Frame so I was trying to rememberis
there a way to maintain the character tags in a cross reference. For
example, the source text has been neatly formatted with character tags to
emphasize the names of the menu options. When this text is cross referenced,
the character tag does not show up, although the text is correct, including
specially formatted areas. Am I forgetting something or is this impossible?

Thanks bunches for your help!

Sincerely

FM8 crashing when book building

2007-12-17 Thread kanti.m...@schange.com
Hello Alan (and Kelly)

Kelly: your book's symptoms are exactly the same as mine: an unformatted
index (I believe) survives.

Alan: I shall check the char formats, but that's a good possibility.
Thanks.

Does anyone know if this has been reported? I've been having difficulty
finding anything on the adobe support site, including the 8.0.1 upgrade
(which I managed to get from another list).

Does the book specify character formats in the index markers? That is
likely to be the culprit. This is a rather nasty FrameMaker 8 bug.

FM8 crashing when book building

Alan: forgot to ask whether this "nasty FM8 bug" is just in indexes, or do
char formats mess up elsewhere?

Hi Diane:

I plan to do that before further testing (late today). Thanks much.

Kamti,

Hard to say without looking at the template. Have you installed the 8.0.1
patch? It fixes a lot of bugs.

Diane

Hello all:

I'm just testing FM 8 for our group: we are still using FM6.

In two tests with existing books, the first (a long doc plan w/several
chapters), opened and built fine.

The next book (a user manual with index) crashes frame consistently.
Narrowed this down to the index. Even removing index and recreating is
fine until I use our index template. Someone suggested looking at
reference pages, which I did, noting that all template files have
identical ref pages: lots of old stuff on them, including equations,
callout numbers, etc.

Anyone else seen this?

Any other ideas appreciated.

Thanks.
