Looks like a great deal... ;-)

 Hello Frameworkers:

Kennth Anger here. I recently took an extended trip to the Astral Plane to
visit my dear friend Aleistair, but on my attempt to return to my
corporeal body, I discovered that someone had stolen my macick sceptre and
the bottle of Black Host needed for my ceremonial reawakening. I need your
help to return to Earth. This is more than a matter of seeking your
Luciferian grace on my personal account. I appeal to you in the name of
The Cinema. I have been truly inspired on my latest astral travels, and I
feel that a flood of new masterworks shall flow from my Steenbeck. Yes,
that's right, they will all be made with the true magick of film, not that
digital hocus pocus. And I'm talking about genuinely inspired pieces, not
just documentation footage of exhibitions passed of as 'Films by Anger.' I
realize some of you may be suspicious, but do note that am NOT in Nigeria,
and i would never pull any kind of sham, scam or masquerade on my true
devotees. So, send as much cash as you can in brown envelopes (no checks,
credit cards, or PayPal) to this address:

Hi David / Kenneth,

Saw your ad on frameworks. I would be willing to send some money
through, but would it be possible to get a signed photo or something
from Ken in return? Even better, would it be possible to ask Kenneth a
few questions?

I am a scholar at the University of Sydney, Australia and I am
researching the history and influence of the occult in and on
Hollywood. If Kenneth would be interested in answering some questions
regarding Jack Parsons, L. Ron Hubbard, Charles Manson and Forry

Let me know what you think.

thanks.

Dear Fred;

There's no sin in being in the minority, or the majority if that's the case,
because there's no sin. Yes, life is too short for this sort of 'creativity' or
any other. The joy of meaninglessness is in the eye of the beholder, and I am
happy to discover that some seem no utility at all in my posts, for I wish them
to remain free of such drudgery. As for Allie's name, well some fine magickian
he'd be if the spelling could be pinned down and stuck in some prison of the
alphabet. He spells it as he chooses, but it's always pronounced Cro-lee, like
the bird he's flipping you all beneath his cape. And you need not worry about
insults to my genuine greatness, for I am well aware of my own stature, and
quite immune to any and all attacks on it, even those I make myself. In fact, I
rather enjoy being on the receiving end of a little smack now and then, as it
adds a touch of vitality to my old corpus. You have nothing to be Angered about
but Anger himself.

Adam,

You're obviously not aware of actual scams that seek to convince people that
someone close to them is suddenly in serious economic straits, almost always
while they are abroad and now stranded.

They are too numerous to list here; a simple search will provide a multiplicity
of the variations on the theme. So, yes, I think your humor in the form of
the sudden necessity of monetary assistance due to
unforeseen circumstances indeed qualifies as one that could be believed by the
more naive amongst us to be legitimate, and therefore, a hoax.

http://netprofitstoday.com/blog/email-scam-urgent-request-from-a-friend/

http://www.emailscammers.com/I-need-your-help.html

http://www.snopes.com/fraud/distress/family.asp

If you want to send humorous emails, to your own friends, be my guest by all
means, but it is highly disrespectful to hijack what is considered as a
professional forum for your own shits and giggles. It is things like this that
make people want to unsubscribe, which I can't imagine is a result you'd want.
So, like I first suggested, please start your own experimental humor hoax
listserv, and leave Frameworks to those interested in following
and participating on it for its intended use.

Thanks,

Elizabeth

What?  A community includes humor; that is one of the things that makes it a
community.  True, irony sarcasm are often lost in email on websites, and
maybe you are being ironic or sarcastic in your reply (and the previous person
with a similar note), but I strongly feel that it is OK to have one thread
with some humor that goes on for a couple of days!  So, Elizabeth, Simonetta,
and Fred, I personally disagree with you on this one.

And I think that this is in no way a hoax, since the original post wasn’t
trying to “pull over” anything on anyone.  It was obviously a joke.
In a day or two this thread too will pass, and we can return to an email group
consisting of nothing but deathly earnestness and seriousness.

(And for a bit of insight as to why the original wasn’t a hoax – Kenneth Anger
is still alive in corporeal form in Los Angeles.  And of course, the signature
at the end for money was to David.   A parody of notes that all of you have
seen.)

My two cents and best regards to all,

Adam

Fred, thank you for pointing out that this is a hoax. I have a rare

only imagine how difficult it is to be a fan of experimental films and
indeed engage in intellectual conversation in general without being able
 to get jokes.

So rare and made up is my illness that there are no foundations currently
funding research for a cure and I've had to start my own. So far no one
has been taking me seriously (which I find offensive because I am forced
by nature to always be serious) and I am left alone in this world
constantly writing out checks to bring Ken Anger back to corporeality.

I'm glad to find someone willing to stand up for people like me and I was
wondering if you would interested in sending me a large sum of money so
that I may develop a sense of humor and stop falling victim to these
 schoolyard bullies on the internet.

Perhaps I'm in the minority here, but I really dislike hoaxes that attempt
humor on lists such as FrameWorks. First of all, some almost always take
them seriously, as has apparently already happened at least once. Second,
life is too short for such creativity. I trust I'm not the only one
among the many hundreds on this list who do not appreciate seeing all
these meaningless emails. Finally, this particular hoax seems to me to be
insulting to the work of a genuinely great filmmaker. Hell, you even
 misspelled Crowley's first name.

I am interested in starting a humorous experimental film listserv, but I need a
few bucks.

Can anyone donate to this worthwhile project, which has been set back a ways by
my being stranded in Ireland with my wallet stolen?

;-)

You would think that by this point, anyone asking for money by email is a
hacking scammer, whether its your mother, brother, or mother's brother. It
should be everyone's automatic instinct.

No lab in Israel that I am aware of Egypt, yes, Lebanon, Turkey, yes,
though I believe these labs all handle 16 and 35, don't know about
 super8... though I think one
of the labs in Turkey does super8 color?

I'm on the other side of the world though, so perhaps someone else on the

Re: [Frameworks] Please help

2012-07-25 Thread Jack Sargeant
If you want to send humorous emails, to your own friends, be my guest by
all means, but it is highly disrespectful to hijack what is considered as a
professional forum for your own shits and giggles. It is things like this
that make people want to unsubscribe, which I can't imagine is a result you'd
want. So, like I first suggested, please start your own experimental humor
 hoax listserv,

An important lesson: there can be no fun or humour or pranks in the
avant-garde.

Strangely, the thing which makes me want to unsubscribe is people telling me
what discussions are allowed and which aren't.

Re: [Frameworks] Labs in Israel?

2012-07-25 Thread Ekrem Serdar
Usually I just waited and processed back at the states. While I've seen
some 16mm by other people be effected by the X-ray, my super 8 (tri-x and
ekta) has looked fine when carry on. And Turkish airports use huge scary
looking X-rays, and you go through em twice (once at entrance, one more
time before you approach a US bound plane.) So those flicks certainly got
toasted a bit

Sometimes you can convince them to handcheck it (which you should always do
in the US) and I always carried a changing bag with me in case they'd
accept. And maybe Israel might be a bit more straightforward with that
stuff, who knows.

But yea, my stuff looks fine in that regard, but might want to hear that
from more people to settle your concerns.
