I released FDISK 1.4.2 [1] with the boot loader changes. I also made a few
changes to prevent FDISK from accessing extended partitions with MORE than 23
logicals created by other partitioners, as it cannot handle these.
If you have some time, it would be great if you could test that version, pla

Greetings,
The FreeDOS 1.3 MEM command reports Total Upper memory of 100K.
The FreeDOS 1.4 RC1 MEM command reports Total Upper memory of 0K.
I get the same results from the live CD and an installed system
running as a qemu guest. Any idea where my upper memory blocks went?
Thanks!
will be corrected asap, the dollar came from the original author.so it starts printing automatically when the printer is switched on? no more printq needed?willi--Gesendet mit der mail.com Mail AppAm 18.01.25, 19:47 schrieb Jim Hall via Freedos-devel :
Hi Willi
Like the MS-DOS program it replaces,
I don't think it is correct to say that PRINT requires a dot matrix printer.
Any printer connected to a parallel port that understands ASCII will work
with PRINT. That includes many older laser printers. And if you have a
virtual machine emulating a printer port, that opens it up to USB or

Yes, second only to ZIP.

Hi Willi
Like the MS-DOS program it replaces, this is a command that was added
in the era of dot matrix printers. I think we first included it in one
of the FreeDOS Alpha distributions, long ago.
It only works with a dot matrix printer, though. By running..

Hi,
I am still working on the german FD help. One problem that I have is how to handle
the "print" command that is delivered with FDT24xx and newer.
There is no /? to give more information. The only thing I found, was:
This PRINT here only takes /1 /2 /3 as "/D:lpt1" etc equivalent

Thanks!
I now tested the new IPL under VMware. It works as intended: does not find an
active partition, waits three seconds, and then the CD boot record takes over.

Hi Paul,
here is my second secret:

The trick is

Correct.
What works, probably because the VMware BIOS contains some heuristics, is when
the IPL area is filled with

Hi Bernd,
the problem is that it is not easy to configure for exampled
VMware to boot from CD without editing some configuration
That leads to the question whether it would not be easier to
provide pre-installed images for VM in the first place.
Avoids the whole install process :-)

Hi Bernd!
I tested it with an AWARD BIOS... BIOS boot order: C, CDROM, A.
To test this, you first had to boot from something else than C.
So either C initially contained no partitions, or you first used
the boot menu of the BIOS to boot from CDROM. In the first case,
the installer could have

Hi Bernd,
thanks for explaining why 55AA should not be removed.
How about having all 1-4 primary partitions marked
as non-bootable partitions instead?
