SpinRite use freedos to run. When you boot SpinRite it boots into freedos.
That's the operating system he uses.

Althou my version I burned to CD didn't load either and I have to presume at
this point his didn't either. Mine gave an error and stopped loading and
even after I did stop the errors

VirtualPC, VirtualBox, VMWare are all very good. On my Linux system, I
use VirtualBox and DOSEmu, both for different things. I used to run
VMWare, and that's still nice, but I'm trying out VirtualBox right
