A question for the List Mavens,
I have an iMac at one of my schools. It is an early model and does
not have a DVD drive. I have 10.3.9 installed and want to upgrade to
10.4x. I have Apple's 10.4 update disc, but it is a DVD.
Is there another way to upgrade my iMacor must I purchase a
One solution to that, if you have access to a later iMac with a DVD drive is
to put the disk in that computer and install 10.4, then put the drive back
in your older G4.

Well, this is sad. I was thinking that doing so would be one good way to
run old machines efficiently. I really don't care about the initial
indexing; I can go take some fresh air. Oh
I am not skilled at computers but I like that idea and would follow it. I
am retired and would like to keep my older Apple going until I get a newer
Apple computer in a few years.Once these new Apples grow older, they will be

It's official - Bruce rocks. :) Installed and running. Still didn't
like some of the bullets in my old Word resume (even after installing
wingdings.ttf) but the RTF version imports and I'm good to go.
Thanks again,

OK, I can get my G4 Quicksilve (OS X 10..11, 800 MHz, 1.5GB RAM) to
boot from the new HD but if the old HD is not present it simply will
NOT boot.
I tried with another HD set as Slave and had no luck.
I tried it with JUST the new HD and no luck. Put the old one back in
as Slave and it boots fine.
