Yikes! G4 are ALL ZIF processors. There is no other way to mount a CPU
in those machines. The earlier beige machines had a dedicated CPU

You can use Quartz Extreme on PCI video cards. Even Rage 3D cards
support Quartz Extreme. It's Core Image that you can't get in most PCI
cards, but the nVidia FX5200 PCI that is normally found in the Xserve
G5 does support both. The problem with the FX5200 is that it doesn't

Thanks,

Agreed. I'm still loving the MDD G4, and for less than $200 you can
find dual 1.25GHz, 2GB memory, and a Leopard OS.
G4 or G5 will not run Snow Leopard, which requires an Intel chip.
If I were to give a warning, it would be that you need a USB 2.0 card,
all of about $10, and that's the only needed

Download a different browser. For freeware browsers, the most modern
available is the Wamcom 1.3.1 Mozilla from 2003:
I'm having a problem that sounds pretty similar. Occasionally while
sleeping, my G5's fan(s) (I can't tell from outside which ones) start
screaming away at full speed. When this happens, though, the system is
also (apparently) still sleeping but won't wake up. Nothing goes into
any of the log
I believe this is called G5 thermal runaway when the fans go full
blast. It's not related to sleep or network AFAIK. Some people have
said Norton software is often responsible, so if you have anything
from Norton, uninstall it. You can also try resetting the PMU:

Hi All
I was in Fry's today and happened to notice external HDD 3.5
enclosures that stated USB 3.0. I never saw these before.
Is that something that needs special support from my computers? Can I
download something that will make my USB faster?
Do I get a card to utilize it?

I believe you'll need a USB3.0 PCIe card funny it looks like USB
3.0 has been out since late last year, but do you see it on Apple
stuff? nope, not yet. As for me, I'm waiting till Apple's got it
before I buy my next upgrade. Till then I'm happy with my 5-6 year
