Re: Are powermac g4 still useful?

2012-01-02 Thread Baha Ata
I had dual 1000 Mhz G4. Installed Mac OS Server 10.5. Good backup server
for my other macs with its SATA card and SATA discs. Sometimes i even use
it for DVD Burning, iMovie simple movies and surfing. Even i watch some
online TV on it. Other than its wind sound it is good to work with.

USB3 devices is some sort of usb 2 extended. So if we use all new devices

Re: Would you trust this ebay seller?

2011-02-18 Thread Baha Ata
in my testing... it is always you may not received item. But simply you may
get your money back if you did not receive item and ask it before 45 days.
In any circumstances, you must obey the rule, if you do not receive item in
45 days... you open dispute... and get your money back. SO no problem.

I bought many items from china... Generally they are ok. But sometimes they
do not arrive.

Re: MDD problem

2011-02-11 Thread Baha Ata
infact you may finish battery but i did not get any bad things other than it
by pressing twice times to CUDA. Relax. It is not CUDA.

It might be CPU or PSU for my 2 cents..

I got same situation once i changed PSU and it not fixed... It was cpu...

Once i changed CPU but it was PSU.

I was lucky in second time because i had 2 MDD in my desk.

If you got a friend that have MDD.. You may test your CPU and PSU...

Sometimes it works... a little time... until CPU get too much hottet.. OR
PSU sometimes get work if some capaccitors halfly working... And it goes
away some times after...

My English is bad... or not enough to tell what i know.. but belive me i got
4 G4 and 2 of them MDD... and i know what i am saying.

Re: MDD problem

The red line on the board is on, after you start?

Do not stay open too much machine as cover open you may burned out CPU (i
had once).

If you need open cover workout you need put a 12 inch fan above cooler that
emits air and put out (while only cover is open it works out when close you
need fan opposite)

if you look all things and found no error... check the cpu...

i just got the same... cooling paste became aged and or other stuff.

screw out cooler... and look white stribes arround cores. if any brownish or
dark means burned out cpu...

Other thing you may look...

cables...

and battery...

you must look out cables... take off battery and wait 10 min and put back
and PRAM reset... one stick ram... one hd. and no cd/dvd cabled.

if those not work... look brownish white stribe arround core...

if all things are good. it is nearly certain POWER.

Re: MacBook Pro battery

2010-07-27 Thread Baha Ata
i recommend ebay... a high valued seller will be choice... have look at
them... ask production date of battery wherever you buy it. it is going lose
its value with time even if it is not used. Be careful about that situation.

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=A1175+battery+brand+new&_sacat=See-All-Categories

I recommend a calibration software for health of your battery too. Battery
must be used. Never used them also lose its life on shelf. (try to not buy
more than 1 year old manufactured date battery, best is same season produced
battery)

I recommend binary trick watts for calibration.

http://www.macosxapplications.com/system-disk-utilities/binary-tricks-watts-calibration-tool-mac-battery/

I am generally using batteries more than 700 cycle even they rated with 300
cycle with %80 life. I can maintain them 400 cycle with %90 life.

Usage and weather conditions are another issues.

Never use your computer without battery, without battery it is lower /
nearly half / speed.

Re: File Recovery

2010-04-28 Thread Baha Ata
use Data Rescue on orginal disc not you backed up from... Do not
download from your existing system... and start from CD or DVd after
burn...

You may look other options but i recommend

http://www.macosxapplications.com/system-disk-utilities/data-rescue-3-emergency-hard-drive-recovery-file-recovery/

Other options that i tried before for different cases

BUT NEVER WRITE ANYTHING ON THE DISCS that you try to rescue and NEVER
USE THEM. Data rescue take data from them and write another disc, no
change on old drive... That's the best way.

what system u are using... i may recommend Data Rescue

http://www.macosxapplications.com/system-disk-utilities/data-rescue-3-emergency-hard-drive-recovery-file-recovery/

but, wait... till more information come... you must download and burn
as CD and start form CD or DVD. No touch to your existing drive.. and
get your data from old drive to another drive. That is the best case
and blueprint of a successful rescue.

Never touch or change your existing data or HD...

take out all Intel code from Leopard... and optimize all Leopard code
again for highest performance for PPC... it is become dark leopard...
or black leopard...

Make it! if you can... it is better than snow leopard on PPC :)

Or if you can, why not add support USB 2 to Mac OS 9...

it will be perfect...

or some addons for Mac OS 9 for ability choosing Firewire or USB disc
full speed start up...

And why not make a Firefox browser for Mac OS 9...

Those are mine wish list!

Really good wish list!

nice comments...

I wish to see an AMD transaction... I guess AMD will over focus it because
of getting lack of power on compition with Intel. I guess AMD will supply
new flagship processors for Apple only for limited time and two companies
come together. And Apple will may use it with getting bargain prices from
Intel

If you like to add comment on it on our website please comment on

Thanks.

Re: Downgrade from iMac/10.6 to PM G5/10.5

2010-02-15 Thread Baha Ata
I had time machine backup, i got powerbook 15 inch 1.67 and restore its 10.5
to the core2duo 17 inch 2.33 without not big problem. now it works.. just i
reinstall some applications because of native Intel i wish to use... and
some serial input for some programs other than everything is same with my
powerbook and core 2 duo macbook pro... But downgrade is not possible IMO,
cause probably it wont be PPC programs or hybrid software for PPC. So when
you restore 10.6 on PPC, it wont work... But if you install 10.5 on it and
afterwards backup and restore it will. I recommend as others backup first
your data. And do not use that backup for restore... After backup,
downgrade, reinstall 10.5 and backup and try restore on your old Mac.

Re: Leopard or Tiger?

2009-12-07 Thread Baha Ata
In my expreince and readings at most %8 speed difference and generally %5
speed difference inbetween 10.4 and 10.5. Even i try 10.4 on my powerbook
after i install 10.5 because of recovery and returned back 10.5. I fell no
difference in gui ( I always disable transparent dock and dashboard
applications). I am using probably exactly same 5600 drive or 5400...
Seagate Barracuda. But if i will go to buy i will definetly go to 7200
drive. Max out ram, your ATI 64 MB and includes every core aspects.

Simpy even for Filezilla i rather choose 10.5. And 10.5 is a current system.
10.6 is just fixation.

Re: Leopard or Tiger?

2009-12-07 Thread Baha Ata
Chose 7200 rpm drive... instead of large and slow 5400 if you looking every
inch responsiveness...

I am using a 1.67 Powerbook 15 inch Hi-Res with 10.5. In my opinion never
fall 2 version behind if you use the system in working computer. So 10.5 is
okey for to use it. Just disable some selectable 3D appereance menus and
dashboard...

Go directly 2 GB memory... Withy 2 GB memory i can use CS4 application other
than Video applications good and infact in production environment for web.
But yes it is slugshy a little but good for mobile working environment.

Speed diffrence of two system is raughly %5, max %8... With 7200 rpm drive
and 2 GB memory it will be ok i guess.

Re: Data Recovery Part 2

2009-11-12 Thread Baha Ata
You may try Test Disk for especially for Windows partion... it is free...
and it may find your volume and you may recover it. Go on their site and
carefully read it. If you do not use any other program or anything you may
rescue your data

One above recommend software i used (Data Rescue 3) for Mac OS X, i do not
have experience on Windows volumes with it. I have lots of experience with
Test Disk on Windows even ntfs volumes. If you made quick format and do not
write anything after wards definetly you will rescue volume (larger disk
needs time for search and build data order) but please read carefull from
Test Disk official site before it. Under link have some special experience
about Test Disk on Mac OS X volumes... you may find orginal site of test
disk in there.

Data Rescue 3 one of the best software for rescue data Focusing
rescue...

You may have look... I have experienced similiar problems

http://www.macosxapplications.com/system-disk-utilities/data-rescue-3-emergency-hard-drive-recovery-file-recovery/

'Today, one of my powerbook’s system hardisc gone away without any prior
warning. 120 GB data gone… my laptop suddenly died. i need a laptop data
recovery software?

While i try to fixing unfixable, i accidentally erase backup disc (320 GB
data gone) partition table… and format it. Even i tried recover partition
table with *testdisk* and *pdisk*, i could not succeded. After 10 hours
work, i decide get the data only from old drive to somewhere else. *Data
Rescue 3* is the program that is the most talented and most successful among
others. Here is the info about it'

Re: Backups? !!!

second hardisc is not the solution if time travel needs for your rescue...

i lost 3 TB data because of electric problem in Turkey...

Those discs are backuped internal other 3 TB

And yes i got good UPS

But all of them gone...

Remote backup or just a handy external HD is the answer...

I use Time Machine with 24 hours backup intervals with 1.5 TB External
nowadays...

Because i need the open my workstation for 24 hours and something migth
happen that i need to stop prevent further disaster but i could not be there
as i lived.

simply... stop...
anybody have faster than 1 Ghz cpu and over 1 GB ram.. clean install
leopard, if large discs let it open and active 2 days... it will be workable
and good. you do not use G4 for editining commercial movies so benchmarks?
forget it. all productive programs other than office (even in tiger ofiice
is slow) work as tiger... If your graphic card is good... certainly leopard
is ok.

optimised is not "bold" world for 10.5
anything faster than 1000 Mhz or dual cpu above 800 Mhz can handle this 10.5

No slowing down, if exist it will be %4

If possible just add rams... If possible change video card higher it will be
same with 10.4, especially on dual cpu machines.

I am using 10.5 with Powerbook 1.33

It is slow 4200 rpm drive... All productivity task (iwork 09) and internet,
and divx are fast... Finder is fast... Be aware, after upgrade indexing makes
huge load... Try clean install and let it go with indexing after. It will
getting normal usage in 1 day.

Re: Which OS for 2 Handme down Machines - which one(s)? and are they worth it?

2009-05-13 Thread Baha Ata
For starters i always recommend better machines especially for kids... It
gives the idea better... I was using C64, C128, Amiga at their prime? Why
not my children have the computers near their prime!

Battery + Ram upgrade for that ibook = Nearly $120+?
Get rid off two together certainly buy a good powerbook 12 ich or 15.4?
Powerbook 12 inch arround $400 nearly full load?

Or interestingly buying one more ibook 933 from ebay cheaper? That include
ram and some battery?

Re: Which OS for 2 Handme down Machines - which one(s)? and are they worth it?

2009-05-12 Thread Baha Ata

For my point of view, iMac version as you mentioned will be
determined. If i am in same shoes with him, i get rid off the ibook,
if it is higher iMac G5 focus on it. Buy more ram on it. Get 10.5
system and walk through with no hassle and probably no spending. Rams
will be cheaper than ibook sale on ebay. With this way spending time
two diffrent performance machine will be away. Minimal G5 is far
faster than that ibook 933. So holding two of them together gives two
different feeling for beginner Apple user. I recommend one faster
machine for starting Apple world without any hassle. Spending any
bucks on that ibook 933 gives back nothing other than problems with
iMac G5. Who gets which computer, what system, mine is slower get me
other problems? :)

BUT

Please consider these:::

Ask Apple:

For example i bought two computer :)

With system 10.5

One of them system disc lost?

What will i do?

Ask Apple:

My neighbour got new G5 , i have a new G5, same model, same production number...

" i lost my installation disc?

Please ask these question to Apple

Ask that could you use internet to get the copy of it? Not public server?

first DVD released out in USA.

Please do not confuse LEND OR REDISTRIBUTE with optaining your legal
copy You may copy your DVD and lost them, you may barrow someone's

Totally misleading factor. OEM licenses belong the machines not people
:) So if you got the machine you got the license of it. If it is OEM
licensed machine... All apple's comes with eproms and Systems... No
single Apple produced without system. So... Do u really catch the
point?

Anyway i cut it.. Whatever you may thing out there, but belive me i am

general of you about rules and obligations about your country.

No... it is %100 legal. You have the right to have the orginal
manufactured disc of that computer. As long as you do not change the
version. You may just call Apple and ask them. They will say what i
said to you. You may barrow or you may ask to your friend put a ftp
server just for you (not public open area), it is not problem. Because
you lost your computer disc. IT IS LEGAL.

Please read rules and laws before belaming legal things in to illegal.

Joe... infact you are right in point of view... but rapidshare and
magaupload like sites use that... It is like that you may copy your
version on a backup and put somewhere for backup purposes. As long as
you do not use illegal way, it is legal. You make some bad statement,
you have ability to make illegal means not being illegal, or we are
all illegal... I wish my English is enough for clear out. But not
rapdishare or any other share services are illegal if you do not use
them illegal way. Thats the idea!

Re: New to Mac - Just purchased used G4

2009-05-11 Thread Baha Ata

Uploader putting his disc on backup purposes for futere downloading
his backup copy. Do you catch the idea?

Thats the logic. They legitimize. For example you bought a Lord of the
Rings DVD box set for $40. You have to right to have a CD copy or DVD
for backup purposes. You have the cover and orginal CD... You somehow
scratch it, you may use your backups. It is legal. You may download
same version of it and use it... It is legal. As soon as you may show
you are the buyer of it. Remember the stickers, cartoons that is said
is legal copy ?

So downloading same version of Mac OS that Apple manufactured with is
legal from whatever source, because that Apple is always comes with
system, without system you cannot buy it. You may use whatever source
for install same system (not higher or lower version, exactly same
manufactured system) and it is %100 legal.

Re: New to Mac - Just purchased used G4

2009-05-11 Thread Baha Ata

Dan sorry, but you may ask a lawyer about this... If you have the
computer that is bluemarked as a system as Apple Computers, you may
barrow... you may download because you have the right the copy of
orginal cd as backup for yourself... In this case you would use your
backup. As long as you use same version of installation it is legal
because as i said Apple Computers come with license of Mac Os but only
manufactured Mac Os not other. The share ports use this backup issues
and legitimite their selfs. So what you are doing is legal or illegal
according what you are doing. If you do not use the orginal system,
and barrow a cd or carbon copy it is illegal. But as mentioned other
posts, really Apple is not care too much single user acts. But i
recommend to install orginal Mac Os version that the machine comes
orginally with or Buy new license... For installing orginal Mac OS
version that themachine comes with he/she can use whatever source
avaible as long as source is the same version.

NO. You may NOT borrow.

The license says:
3. Transfer. You may not rent, lease, lend, redistribute or
sublicense the Apple Software.

Operative words there: NOT and LEND.

Re: New to Mac - Just purchased used G4

2009-05-11 Thread Baha Ata

it maybe OEM licensed Apple Software... I am not sure on it because i
have not seen any OEM license for Mac OS since today. But in Windows
world it can be like that. You can install from OEM license and do not
give or "not obligated to give" license or CD as seller.

Re: New to Mac - Just purchased used G4

2009-05-11 Thread Baha Ata

it is not software piracy. As long as you have your backup cd. .That
machine has its 10.2 as orginal manufactured system. You may install
it whatever source you found. It is not needed licence as long as you
use 10.2. Rapidshare or other way of sharing networks is not illegal,
if they illegal all of them are closed down already. How you use them
is legal or illegal! Thats the important difference. You may call
Apple or Microsoft. If you have a OEM licensed computer you may use
same software version for reinstallation from whatever source you can
find.

this must be useful for your spec.

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac_g4/stats/powermac_g4_867_dp_mdd.html

Pre-Installed MacOS:9.2.2, X 10.2

You may barrow and install 10.2 and 9.2.2 without any license issue
from a friend or a copy CD.

Above it, you must have license or orginal CD.

I use only HD not any optical media for backup. Cause optical media need
care... If you backup all data and trust them in 5 years you may lost many
of them because hummanity and particuls... HD, and more HD I got 1 HD
