The APC was showing odd signs I didn't consider until now, like it was

If the APC is A Back-ups e s 550 I would be interested in the switch or
case less battery. On mine the switch won't move and likes to cut off on
it's own. Most of the time dropping, walking heavy or stomping floor
causes status change. Today if shut off 5 times in 4 hours, needless to
say it's out of service.

If It compatible post off line.

I've had good luck with APC units, both at work and at home. just
need to replace the battery every 3 years or so.The three I have
at home are older units 8-10 years old or so and I've been using el
cheepo batteries I find on the internet.I have found regardless of
brand of UPS Battery, when you get a string of power outages and/or
you run it until it dies just replace the battery.happened to one
at work, randomly shut off when there was even a little dip in power,
eventually it would not turn on at all. new battery and it was all
better.

I have 2 UPS units I need to get batteries for.

1) APC Office 280
2) APC Back-UPS

I also have 4 APC Power Managers, but they are more like surge protectors I
think

APC UPS?

2010-04-30 Thread Michael G.M.
Recently the power to my wife's Mac has been simply going out at
random odd times.
When I check the APC UPS it's OFF(?) -It's not using the APC software
or attached via USB for it to be software related.

I got this UPS around 5 years ago, and the replace battery light isn't
'Red' indicating the battery needs replacement. However, I wonder if
the old UPS is finally nearing retirement and needs a new battery
anyway or simply a new replacement UPS altogether.

I've read online you can get suitable replacement batteries for UPS' @
BatteriesPlus...

Anyone have any experience with these things and suggestions and
buying tips?

TIA!!! :-)
Mike

Re: APC UPS?

2010-04-30 Thread Anne Keller-Smith

Michael,

They say UPS's are good for about 3 years max. I've
often used them for longer though.

When I checked getting a new battery it seemed the battery
cost as much (with shipping) as just buying a new APC.

You can try a new battery, I'd be interested in your experience.

Could the replace battery light be burned out? Just a wild guess.

I may have had a flaky one, I don't quite remember. One that seemed
to come and go. It was ancient, I replaced it altogether.

Good luck!

They're expensive that way, but as Michael said, you can get 'em at Batteries
Plus if there's one nearby

We've found, in general APC UPS'es will last through two , sometimes three
battery packs before something else dies and they need replacing; this is based
on a bunch of 'em sitting in phone closets, which are not the best places.
These are their better grade SmartUPS and such, not the consumer Back-UPS units.
