I admire you, Jack. I wasn't interested enough to get a replacement battery for the APC - The cost is too close to a new w/ free shipping (Which I got). Plus, I have no idea how long the replacement will last and if it doesn't have the reports that it would last as long as the manufacturer's new one I figure: Why not buy a new one anyway? Re: APC UPS?
I've had good luck with APC units, both at work and at home. just need to replace the battery every 3 years or so.The three I have at home are older units 8-10 years old or so and I've been using el cheepo batteries I find on the internet.I have found regardless of brand of UPS Battery, when you get a string of power outages and/or you run it until it dies just replace the battery.happened to one at work, randomly shut off when there was even a little dip in power, eventually it would not turn on at all. new battery and it was all better. -sam -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Re: APC UPS?
Michael, They say UPS's are good for about 3 years max. I've often used them for longer though. When I checked getting a new battery it seemed the battery cost as much (with shipping) as just buying a new APC. You can try a new battery, I'd be interested in your experience. Could the replace battery light be burned out? Just a wild guess. I may have had a flaky one, I don't quite remember. One that seemed to come and go. It was ancient, I replaced it altogether. We've found, in general APC UPS'es will last through two , sometimes three battery packs before something else dies and they need replacing; this is based on a bunch of 'em sitting in phone closets, which are not the best places.
