well that is quite easy to hack, unless you encrypt the sounds in the exe.
there is a resource hacking program, which coincidently i use for changing
the version information for the programs i make which can retrieve sounds
out of exes and dlls.

2006-11-12 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi,
Also there is another way to secure sound effects and it is about as
full proof as it gets. In Visual C++ you can clude your effects as a
resource, and compile it directly in to the *.exe file. It pretty much
insures no one will get at them. You can also build them in to a *.dll
and access them remotely.
I recommend the *.dll as it makes them extremely secure, and it doesn't
make your *.exe file the size of Texas.

[Audyssey] self destruct

2006-11-12 Thread Nicol
I can't believe it! I beat self destruct on hard difficulty. It seems as
if the urchin lord battle is the easiest part of the whole game so far. My
spoiler will work exactly the same way on hard. Now its only insane that's
there to beat. There i have to watch out for mines in the grid.
After all self destruct isn't that bad. there's only one bug in the game
and that's when the sounds get mixed up if you die in the urchin lord
battle. then you hear the urchin lord battle music while you are back in
the grid and you hear the step sound as you walk on the battle field while
you are actually back in the grid after losing a life and if you then
pause the game it terminates after displaying a message. But otherwise I
think its a cool game.

[Audyssey] Accessible online poker

2006-11-12 Thread Christian
Hi all,
Yes, I brought this up some while ago, but I better tell you what sites I have
tried. I have tried everything with Window-Eyes, not JAWS.
www.partypoker.com
With the help of the mouse keys I was able to sign up for a playMoney account.
I had difficulties selecting playmoney or realmoney tables.
Once I managed to select a table I could view the ongoing game. The cards are
shown as text on the table, dont think that your own cards are shown as text
thgouh. The cards are shown as 10C for ten of clubs, 8H for eight of hearts,
and so on.
There are hotkeys for folding calling and racing. I was not able to take a seat
at the table either. I clicked on every graphic but with no luck. Maybe it had
to do with that i was at a realmoney table.
www.absolutepoker.com
They have keyboard shortcuts for most functions but WIndow-Eyes crashed with
their client, but it was some time since I tried it so maybe it will work
better now.
www.pokerstars.com has no keyboard access so not possible to use.
Also, some of the installers are not accessible at all. I have tried a few more
but with simular results.
I really hope that someone is interested in also maybe testing and telling how
it goes. I have also written to most of them, but their interest is not that
big.
I have also posted to several online forums, and have recieved some comments
but nothing that makes it possible to play as of yet.
All the best and thanks,
Christian

features of windows work, so it wouldn't have occurred to me to look for
extra accounts.

anyhow, as your modifying the installers to work with net Framework 2.0, I
hopefully won't have to worry about such problems again.

Hoping to try out some games soon,

dark.

I just want to do it for fun. I tried using Dragon Unpacker on the files

Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files

2006-11-12 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
That is correct. If a game company is encrypting there files in a file
then they generally don't want you copying, changing, or doing things
with the game files. Cracking the files can get you in hot water with
the company in question.
I as a developer know what Draconis was using for it's own titles I
myself now am able to make the ESP files since I took over Alchemy's
Raceway project. However, I am not willing to share that information
with the public at large.
Smile.

Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files

2006-11-12 Thread x-sight interactive
it is an interesting topic though. if people do want to encrypt their sounds
they all do it in different ways. some people use comaudio to do all the
dirty work, some people use other external software, and then there are
those that try and disguise them by changing a .zip filename to .dat or
something similar, then there are those experts that write out their own
encryption/decryption routines. i wouldn't encrypt many of my game sounds,
as it can be fun to change the sounds and hear what it sounds like with
different effects, but as i learned quite a while back by thomas here, and
other devs on this list, some companies think differently, so we all have to
respect their policies, which i can fully understand.

damien

Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files

2006-11-12 Thread x-sight interactive
if the developer has encrypted any files in their products it's because they
don't want them tampered with. usually if a game dev wants to allow sounds
to be changed they don't encrypt the sounds, but sometimes even if the
sounds are decrypted it's because a dev doesn't know how to.

so i doubt you'll be able to. that's just my thoughts and experiences on the
matter.

Re: [Audyssey] trouble running USa games.

2006-11-12 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
End user problems with the .NET Framework 1.1 is the major reason all
future releases of STFC, Monty, and all other games will be using
framework 2.0.
Just for reference with .NET Framework 1.0 and 1.1 it use to create a
special account on your computer. In order to restore your functunality
and disable the login issue you speak of you needed to go in to control
panel, go to users, and remove the extra unneded framework account
before restarting. I can say a system restore was unnecessary. All you
needed to do was remove the account.
Now, as for STFC and Montezuma's Revenge the binaries themselves will
run with Framework 2.0, but the installer was setup to only check for
1.1.43.22. I'm rewriting the installer and recompiling them to work with
Framework 2.0 so in the next month or so look for updates that resolves
your issues.

Re: [Audyssey] is issue 50 out yet?

2006-11-12 Thread Allan Thompson
Hi Charles,
Welcome back. I hope your move was a pleasant one, grin.
No the issue is not out yet.
>From what little I have been keeping track of, USA Games has had some
announcements concerning time frames for some game releases, and a new
project concerning an open source asteroids game which involves some game
programing training kit. I also think there was some talk of a flight
program usable for the blind which involves a spread sheet program.
I don't recall any games being released, but there was the usual talk
concerning muds, and on line games. I hope that helps a little. I Also seem
to remember Draconis releasing some information such as they are having a
sale for the holidays, and I think they put up an RSS feed.
That is all I can remember, I hope that helps a little.

[Audyssey] trouble running USa games.

2006-11-12 Thread Dark
Hello.

the discussion of Rale racer yesterday prompted me to go and have another look
at Net Framework. Everytime I'd tried to install it in the past, it not only
refused to work, but also caused huge problems at start up, which i could only
fix with a system restore.

I've now downloaded NEt Framework 2.0 redistributable package from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en

and I'm very pleased to say it appears to work fine, and I've been able to run
a non-audio game related application that I've been wanting to run for quite a
long while now.

the two games from Usa games, Monti and Startrek Final conflict however, stil
tell me to go and install net framework, which I obviously have already done.

Will games made to run with Net Framework v1 not run with v2? Is there another
component I need to install?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated, sinse both games sound very much
like my sort of thing.

thanks in advance,

Re: [Audyssey] organ help for chilingham

2006-11-12 Thread Bryan Peterson
If you actually talked to the parrot you shouldn't have any problems. I know
from experience that if you play the right notes before listening to the
parrot it doesn't work, but why you're having problems I don't know. If all
else fails you could just press F5 which is the universal cheat, but I try
to avoid that as much as possible.
