[Audyssey] Sound Problem in Monkey Business
I sorted out the problem with the key, but now I have another problem which is when I walk on level 1, the footsteps don't sound like they should when I walk, they sound like I have tiny shoes on and they should sound like the #professor's footsteps and when I am on the ledges level, I don't hear the sound of the ledge crumbling when I should. I have the game on low. What is happening? Also, I can't jump the third acid pit. Why is that? Re: [Audyssey] the unfortune regarding accessible games and mainstreamgames
Hi Nicol You have to remember though, that there's a difference between main stream games for the pc and play station, and other platforms such as the one you mentioned. If you look at a popular main stream game such as Flight Simulator, you will notice that it is actually much more expensive than the normal accessible games. Last I heard, (and I may be corrected), Flight Simulator e.g., costs in access of R700-1200, roughly $100-$150, if my maths isn't buggered up this early in the morning. Trainz, a game from Auran, which is also a popular main stream game, retails at roughly $69, which is about R520. That's about double the price of a normal accessible game. So to try and compare accessible games with the Nintendo platform, (mind my spelling), is in my view, a bit unfair. Just log on to www.kalahari.net and search under the games section. You'll be shocked to see what main stream games (for the pc and play station) actually sell for. Then I'm sure you will realise that accessible games isn't that expensive. Anyway when I was a child, my mom bought me a cartridge with 60 games on it. I played these games with the help of my sighted friends. My mom paid r100 for the whole cartridge. ON there is games like pack man, Mario brothers, etc. It's a pitty that accessible games costs more than mainstream games on a cartridge. . Oh sorry, I forgot to say, r100 south African money is equal to 12 dollars. So for 12 dollars you get 60 main stream games, some of them are small games and some are multi level games. The obvious reason why accessible games is not that cheap is because it needs more sounds. The difference between accessible and mainstream games is that accessible games uses sounds instead of graphics, so that is why accessible games costs more. I know of many sighted kids who exchange cartridges with games between them for free. It's a pitty accessible games is not that popular. I mean a kid would go to his friend's house and give him a cartridge with newer games for free. If only accessible games were that cheep so that 60 accessible games could fit onto a cartridge and plugged into the computer and we only had to pay 12 dollars for it but the sounds it uses is much larger than sighted games. Re: [Audyssey] Lone Wolf mission 17
Hi Raul, For the record I've beaten mission 17 several times, and I have never once used the deckgun. Actually, it had never occurred to me to try it with the gun before. Usually, what I do is I slip in to the middle of the formation, a tricky move in it's own right, and then I slap four torps in to the battleship, and burn holes in the water in a dive. Hopefully the battleship is more or less out of action at this point. The ships will take turns trying to blow me out of the water, and avoiding all those ships is another trick. Well, as soon as the break off their attack, start picking your next target, and start making your way to the serfice. My favorite move is to ping them hard, they ships will slow, and while they still in a 1 not turn I hit them broadside with torps. I have taken out one or two of the destroyers in this way. I think you are getting the point. Basic tactic is keep the ships in a state of attack, and slowly but surely cut them down one at a time. By the time that mission ends you should be out of torps and the fleet all except the carrier should be on the bottom of the ocean. Raul A. [Audyssey] Want to post the ACM simulation files.
Does anyone have about 300 K space they could post the zip file so I don't have to email it to ten different people? I've decided that writing an indepth tutorial would take way too long given my other-life work load, so I will answer questions instead. The files come with a lesson document by the author. He was planning on playing the game on a hex map. We are using Excel to resolve actual coordinates, which is more accurate and actually simpler after the initial investment of time on my part. If I can post it somewhere, y'all can download it and take a look, and I will answer any questions I can. once people have a feel for how it works, I'll set up a scenario appropriate to the number of players we have. Hi there, S P O I L E R S P A C E Firstly, Lothron is on Penekarn Lane. Go to Explore Talonis, then type Penekarn Lane into the box. If you haven't visited "The Third House" yet, do so. There's a quest there as well. Then, choose to Stroll down Penekarn Lane. First you'll find Wenrald the Fence, who is interested in selling you a decent belt. Then, you'll find Lothron. And no, you don't need to beat everyone in the tournament of arms, but I highly recommend it. To get in good graces with that captain, you have to involve yourself in a lot of barfights. Enough to attract his attention. Hope that helps. [Audyssey] self destruct
NB: This email and its contents are subject to our email legal notice which can be viewed at http://www.sars.gov.za/Email_Disclaimer.pdf HI all I want to brag! I think * I have reason to brag. I finally manage to kill the urchin lord. I only played the game on easy. Now I'm playing it on normal. I killed the urchin lord after level 10 on easy. ON normal it's the same as on easy except on normal the urchins are not shocked when they enter room 91 but on hard and insane the urchins have the ability to chase me and the alva urchin sometimes set mines. But I struggled for so long to fight the urchin lord. I couldn't figure it out. Now I discovered that spacebar tells me my health and the urchin lord's health. I don't know if this is suppose to be like this, but if I hold down my control key my gun fires continuously. So I stand in the middle of the battle field and hold down my control key and when the urchin lord comes on my sectdor he gets a lot of the shots by my control key hold down. When I press an arrow key while holding down control, my gun stops firing, but as long as I remain on one position and I hold down control my gun fires continuously. He also drains me of a lot of health. I killed the urchin lord with 700 health points left. I noticed that level 10, even on easy, is much harder than levels 1 to 9. The urchins shoot me much faster, so once I shot enough urchins on level 10 to earn 12000 gold to teleport, I have to run very quickly through the grid looking for the key to room0 if room0 in level 10 have the bonus round where you have to avoid the holes in the floor or I have to find the teleporter. And if my moves gets less and the bom is warning me, I have to quickly decide: should I use a move pill or should I buy moves if my gold is enough so that I can still have 12000 gold to teleport in either way . If I'm not quick enough, the urchins on level 10 can easily drain my health. ON the audiogames.net webpage I read that the newest version of self destruct is 1.2. I have 1.1.6. Its quite possible that the bug I experience where, if I die on the battle field and I have lives left, When I'm back in the grid, the battle field music and step sound gets mixed up with the grid sounds if I have lives left, have been fixed in 1.2. The audiogames.net webpage also says that in version 1.2 you have robot merchants, which is not in 1.1.6. IN 1.1.6 you have a control panel by pressing d where you can buy items or track urchins. Please let me know if any one know where I can find 1.2. When I either press enter on the url link or the download link for self destruct on the audiogames website, I get 404 not found. The urchin lord is a very interesting name for the boss in self destruct. I know what an urchin is, it's a soor rat, it's a pesky creature taken from a mainstream game. But why calling the boss a lord is very interesting. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] Aircraft simulator we can use
Ok, many questions. Shaun, Tom has described it correctly as have I in subsequent posts. This is basically an Excel mathematical simulation of flight, allowing for different aircraft with different power and control characteristics.. You have control over 4 control values, which you manually enter into the cells of a worksheet which has the mathematical formulae on it. See my description to Phil on the long narrative thread. Ken. I don't know of other excel-based games, but that's my ignorance rather than the likelihood that they don't exist. There are a number of issues that would make it complex to make a sound-based flight sim, but at least these worksheets provide the aerodynamic basis for such a game. The modeling isn't perfect, (the designer includes notes on simplifying assumptions he made) but it's pretty darned good, at least as good as the modeling in current table-top air combat games. Thomas, I will include you on the list of folk to send the stuff to. I'd really love to run (and participate in) a 6V6 brawl over Germany, or perhaps even an Eastern front game, Yaks vs Fokke-Wulfes with each aircraft being flown by one of you. Re: [Audyssey] (long): Example narrative, hypothetical Japanese invasion scenario.
To be clear, there are two different spreadsheets here. The first is the one controlling an individual aircraft. The D column reports current bank angle, speed (MPH I think) altitude, pitch (angle of nose to horizon) and heading. The E column gives the predicted values of these variables if the controls are left in the current configuration. This prediction substitutes for the pilot feeling the changing pressures on the stick and g-load. The other spreadsheet doesn't exist except in crude form. This is the sheet that tracks all the aircraft and gives relative bearing, pitch and range information. I extract the raw data from the aircraft worksheets, then perform various transformations to convert absolute coordinates, headings and pitch angles into relative bearings, pitch angles and ranges. I then further use these values to construct firing modifiers. Each aircraft has a list of guns that are rated both for rate of fire and destructiveness of a single hit. One adds the RoF modifier to the modifier generated from my tracking sheet to get the final firing mod, then rolls (I usually use GMA Dice for this) on a chart the column of which is determined by the destructiveness of the gun firing. One then records the damage back on the aircraft-s worksheet and notes any critical hit effects, many of which affect subsequent play. As for the output itself, it is entirely numeric for now, as it has been for my own use and I know what I mean. I am in the process of creating a tracking sheet sufficient to track 24 aircraft, my estimate of the upper limit of playability at least solitaire. For now, this is completely numeric with no narrative elements, but at such time as I know it's working properly, I will retrofit some documentation and labels to make it more human readable. But there is no way to reduce the sheer dataload that would be far more easily conveyed by a visual image. For now, once folk have learned to fly the aircraft, I envision being the referee of an email game, where I would send each player a summary of their aircraft's current state, and get from them the control inputs. I would also include information about the other aircraft from their point of view. I'm looking at how to model situational awareness, as in a larger battle, (even 3V3 or more might constitute large) it is impossible to track every target and effectively engage one. The advantage of the "double-blind" method of play is that I can more accurately model this awareness and players wouldn't be able to make moves against aircraft they would not be realistically tracking. Finally, and I'm sorry for the length, for all those who are asking for the files, please let me finish the tracking sheet and tutorial first. I will be happy to offer flying lessons at that time. I have collected all of you and will send out the file all at once. I should have everything ready for preliminary release between now and January 2009. (How's that for hedging my bets like an experienced developer? *smile*) I'll try and get the tutorial done today or tomorrow and release at least the flight engine and aircraft, so that folks can get the feel of how to fly, before I put you into a combat scenario. [Audyssey] Moderator's quick note regarding message size
Hi everyone. I'd just like to take the time to point out that in the last several days there have been several messages which have been rejected based on size. When writing or replying to a message it's important to rememder that if the message is too big it will not go through. Below are some key points to remember. Also, if you have any questions on this topic please write [EMAIL PROTECTED] instead of replying here. 1. If your message is a reply please trim the extra lines. Usually a good practice for this is to only quote the person who you are replying to. Example, if there is a topic about checkers and there 5 messages and you reply to the newest, by simply replying you are adding your message and if you include the whole quoted thing you are including the first 5 messages. However if your reply only is in reference to the last person who wrote then it makes sence to erase everything after that person's message. 2. No one wants to tell anyone how to write emails or in what format, however one thing to take into account is if your email client is sending out html messages what usually happens is the message is actually sent in two parts. part 1 is the html message and part 2 is the text attachment. Our mailing list software strips out the html message and sends the text version to the list. However the size check is done before the html message is stripped off. What this means is if your message is say, 5 or 6 k in size normally, the added html code will make it much bigger. Our mailing list software won't know the difference and your message might be rejected. So, short fix is to simply not use html messages and instead send text only. We realize of course that either people don't want to just use text messages or they don't know how to change it or they cannot change it from their client. In cases like this we try to allow messages through if we can determine the reason for the extra size. If the message is obviously large due to lack of trimming old quoted messages then it's rejected. But if the message would have most likely passed through except for the html junk in it, then we'll let it go through. All the best. -- Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; -- John 17:20 Raul A. Gallegos ... IliwSsmc ___ Gamers mailing list .. It takes lots of practice. Myself I am not a gunner. I like torpedoing my enemies, but I do use it when it comes in handy. My favorite time to use it is when destroyers get stuck at one not and I blast them in to dust as they stall. shaun everiss wrote: > I can but I can't at the speed raul can. > I tried in mission 19 I even tried a torpedo track, and hmm hard. > ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] Aircraft simulator we can use
Hi Shaun, I've seen this sort of thing before. I guess if you want to call it it is text based, but the real term would be Excel based. You punch in values like go to the cell holding the course and change it. Immediately all the other cells will change to reflect your course change. You can change your speed, pitch, angle, roll, whatever. Basicly, the game is based on formulas and what you are doing is changing the values and everything else changes to give you a new mathematical simulation of what would happen in that situation. As far as converting it in to a real rts game I would love it. I just need the equasions to do so. shaun everiss wrote: > Hi criss. > Sounds good. > However how do you play a game in excell? > I'm not really good with it I hardly used it. > I'm used to pushing left right up and down arrow keys, ctrl and space > and other things. > Is this just a text game or does it have sound. > I wander if any dev is interested in making this an actual game with > sounds and such, I am interested. > ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] lone wolf challenge
Hi John, The deckgun is a bit tricky, but all you need to do is raise or lower it to the right distance, and then point it at the correct ship and fire. Of course firing on non-moving targets works best, but I have used it effectively on moving targets as well. One comes to mind is the convoy you must destroy without hitting the hospital ships. I generally, aim in to the center of the convoy and start hammering them with the deckgun. You can often times damage or destroy a cargo ship or two and scare the hospital ships off so you can get some solid torpedo shots in.
