2008-08-10 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Kevin,
Well, Sarah did the voice overs for most of the game, but there is some
synth voices for the non-human characters. Mainly these consist of ATT
crystal and the rest are the Loquendo voices.
If I am not mistaken Brandon Coal did the voice of Filch which is a
pretty decent job if I say so myself.
Cheers.

Re: [Audyssey] Sapi problems was Puppy1

2008-08-10 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Damien,
That will do it. I don't know why but the Cepstral voices are best if
you don't remove them. I think they remove something the rest of the
Sapi engines need, and that is why they crash. What I can suggest to fix
your issue is to use the Windows restore point feature and rollback to a
date before you removed Cepstral, or even better yet before you
installed them.

Damien Sadler wrote:
 Hi Thomas,
Yeah, it was uninstalling Cepstral that caused mine to break. The only one
that worked after that were the Microsoft voices, and so I tried the
deluserlex program to try and fix my Scansoft Daniel, but once I ran that,
not even the Microsoft voices worked.
 Regards,
 Damien

Hi, I don't believe you need any sapi voices in Sarah.

The att and laquendo are in the game--basically, recorded clips if I'm not
mistaken.

Actually that was Josh DeLioncourt that did the voice of Filch. He's
certainly got one of the most recognizable voices in the AG market.

 Hi,
I think some of the Laquendo voices are in there. At the last check, some
could cry, laugh, and sound like
 various other emotions.

I am not sure of the URL to these though, but I know for sure Susan is
used in some parts and I'm not
 sure what else.

I was able to compile this game and use it with Jaws cursor.

I am trying to convert this code to full audio for blind folks to use it.
don't ask me when I will finish, as with all others up here...family/life

I am cutting out audio clips from the real show to use in the game.

 Hello there,
I am a fledgling Visual Basic 6 programmer.
I ran across source code on
 www.planet-source-code.com
site for the game deal or no deal.
I was able to compile this game and use it with Jaws cursor.
it seems to be the british version with pounds rather than dollars.
I am trying to convert this code to full audio for blind folks to use it.
don't ask me when I will finish, as with all others up here...family/life
demands keep me from my programming hobby.
I am cutting out audio clips from the real show to use in the game.
I'll let u know more when I get more of this project done.

Re: [Audyssey] For Missy and Favorite Muds

2008-08-10 Thread Missy Hoppe
Hi! The mud is called discworld. The web site is
http://www.discworld.atuin.net
The telnet address is discworld.atuin.net port 23.
The mud is based on the discworld novels by Terry Pratchet, but knowledge
of the books is far from necessary to enjoy the game.
The guild options are assassins, priests, thieves, warriors, witches and
wizards. All the classes have a number of sub classes to chose from. There
are families you can join, as well as clubs. You can buy pets, including
petegree cats and dogs, parrots and rats. If you're feeling particularly
adventurous, you can go tame a pet moon dragon for yourself.
Pk is definitely an option if that's your thing, and there are tons of
areas to explore.
Best of all, there are a number of blind players there, so if you're having
trouble for any reason, one of us would be able to help you out. Also, the
newbie helper channel is quite active and there are a lot of nice people.
My character's name is Eponine, and I'm around quite often. I will be
offline fore another hour or so doing household stuff, but then I should be
on for the rest of the day. Good luck, and I look forward to meeting your
discworld character soon!

It is confusing to move around there. How do you find your way around
 there?
I have played other muds but the problem is the maps are totally
inaccessible. I need a system with some of them have speedwalk directions
where it will say how many times east west north south etc.

Re: [Audyssey] Sarah and the castel of witchcraft and wizardry

2008-08-10 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Kevin,
I used several SAPI voices, , mainly the A T and T voices to make the
recordings of the different characters.
I got them from Nextup.com
If you are talking about the SAPI choice in the options, it is only for
changing the SAPI voice in the fortune telling games on the divination
tower.
It usues the sapi voices that are already on your computer and does not add
any voices.
I did this because the tarot game is over 80 cards and would require the
game to be much larger if I recorded all the words.

Originally the game was all synthesized speech but people complained so much
that I got real people to record the parts of Sarah, Sarah's father and the
caretaker.
Their credits are in the end of the instructions.

If you want to know what voice spoke what part, I will tell you if you give
me the name of the creature.
I am thinking of adding a list in the walk through but have not done this
yet.
Phil

2008-08-10 Thread Yohandy
Hello all,
You guys probably remember me posting about problems establishing
connections for certain apps and games. I still haven't fixed the problem,
so I need help from someone that knows the answer to my question. Keep in
mind I have no experience with command line applications. Now my question
is, how do I do port scans with this program? I'd really like to find out if
port 21 is being blocked and why. I apologize if this is off topic, but
since I need my ports unblocked to register games, I posted it here. If
anyone knows the answer please reply privately as to not clutter the list.
thanks guys!

Hi Yohandy,
Actually, it is pretty easy.If you want to run a quick scan on your
system all you need to do is run a command like
nmap 192.168.0.1
and it will give you a quick summary of your ports.

all patches, and also install the June 2008 9.0C full and dot net 1.1 for
everything to work. I found out the hard way that if you do not install
 all
the patches from his site. if you have only V1.0 and try just to install
1.53 from 1.0. It will error out because there will be files missing.

I have sent a email to Che about this.

  Hi Ian,
There is no password associated with the zip, very weird there that you
got that. There may be a field in winZip for a password, but none is
required. Be absolutely sure you read the read me file included with the
zip, it includes very important instructions for updating from a previous
 version.
  Out.

Hi Kelly,

When I wrote the golf course maker program I accidentally set the default sapi
voice to one other than your computer's default voice. So for some people that
was giving them an error. So that little patch is just the file golfmake.cfg
that does set the default voice to your computer's default sapi voice.

Re: [Audyssey] Unbeatable games

2008-08-10 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Thomas,

Actually the pong ball was a rectangle because it was one pixel. That was how
poor the resolution was on the Atari 2600. But hey if you didn't look too
close at it, it did kind of look like a round ball.

I have not done any graphics for a very long time. I do remember redefining
the ASCII character set on my Texas Instruments 99 4a to draw pictures with it.
The Extended Basic programming cartridge for the Atari 800 XL home computer
had some special game graphics functions, like sprites. Once you drew it you
could give it a direction and speed and it would continue moving until you told
it to stop. I believe that they also had automatic collision detection.

But heck I don't even like putting text on the screen in windows because JFW
will not report row and column as JFD did. You know I liked to keep the text
organized in columns etc. So now I just go for self voicing or for some little
programs like my blood sugar and blood pressure tracker program I just use the
VB6 input boxes.

BFN

 Jim

ASCII and it shall be given unto you.

Re: [Audyssey] pong update - Re: Unbeatable games

2008-08-10 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Thomas,

Yeah, those were the controllers ok. I never played break out or super break
out.

The recession of the early eighties put me out of work and I couldn't afford to
buy games after that for some time. And by then I could no longer see and gave
away my Atari 2600 and Atari 800 XL home computer. So my sighted video game
play was pretty limited.

I don't think you can use those without first unlocking or purchasing the
codes yourself. That seems to be a safeguard in a lot of audio games. The
cheat codes won't work until you yourself unlock the file within the game.
So even posting them on list, which is generally not looked upon with favor,
would be pointless.

Hi,
Yeah, that is some pretty poor graphics. Grin.
The version of Pong on my Linux system I am sitting at right now is at
least several times better in graphics technology since this version
uses OpenGL as the graphics technology. OpenGL is the Mac and Linux
alternative to DirectX Direct3D and as equally as good in most cases.
