Re: [Audyssey] Preordering was Max Shrapnell

2010-10-20 Thread Ian McNamara
Hello i agree with this, i do not mind pre-ordering a game providing i know the
situation of it on regular updates. I like the way that che done it with rail
racer and i just wish that james north had been more honnist with his cliants.
my dad had verius amounts of arguments with him vire email because of how he
was keeping people in the dark and how we where not seeing the games that we
ordered. I have to say can't wait for raceway as i want a force feedback wheel
so that i can properly drive.

[Audyssey] Preordering was Max Shrapnell

2010-10-20 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

Shaun wrote:

> FINNISH THE PROJECT.

My reply:
Well, I certainly agree the way James North handled the preorders was
definitely not the way to go about it, but I also believe that doesn't
completely rule out having some sort of preorder option available for
small time developers.
Che Martin, for example, had a great preorder system going for Rail
Racer. What he did that made it work is he had an early alpha or beta
version ready to go so even if people preordered early they got the
full game such as it was every few days untl the final release of the
project. Plus they got up to date news of what was happening and ai
fairly good idea when a next update would appear. All of it was to the
good, and showed he could be trusted with their money.
One major reason why James North got burned for his preordering is he
was too closed mouth about everything, and made a lot of promises he
couldn't keep. For example, I placed an order for Montezuma's Revenge
in December 2004 with the understanding the game was to ship around
Christmas. Next thing we knew it was delayed, because of something
about a problem with the registration system, and he was holding it
back to fix that. Months later he was pressured into releasing a demo
of Montezuma's Revenge. To Everyones amazement the game was far from
complete, and had a number of notable bugs like the ladder bug. The
very bug I ended up fixing personally when I got the source code.
To make a long story short he did a lot of things wrong. He should
have put out a demo early on before he took any preorders. Instead of
saying the game was going to be done for Christmas he should have been
more open and honest about what was left to be done with the game such
as he had two levels and a bonus level complete, and had a third level
that was never released to the general public but I found on the cd of
materials he sent me. There was no registration system at all in the
game which could mean two things. If he had one he yanked it out
before giving me the source code, or the more likely explanation there
never was one to begin with. whatever the case he did intentionally
mislead everyone about the development progress until he was pressured
into releasing the demo that was far from complete. Not being
completely honest with the public was definitely his first mistake,
and the source of most of his problems with the community.
Basically, i feel if a developer chooses to take preorders they can do
so with the understanding they release demos, trailers, news letters,
etc to keep everyone informed of the development process of the game.
No one expects a game to be created in a month, maybe not even six
months, but they do expect to be kept honestly informed of changes and
how much progress is being made.

Cheers!

hMMM
tHATS HARD TO SAY.
THAT IS TO SAY THERE ARE SEVERAL VIEWPOINTS.
oNE IS THAT HE DECIDED HE DIDN'T WANT TO DO GAMES ANYMORE BECAUSE
PEOPLE WERE WHINING TO HIM ABOUT WHEN STUFF WAS GOING OUT, ANOTHER
WAS THAT HE WAS A BEEPSTARD AND STOLE CASH FOR HIS GAMES WITH NO
INTENT TO REALEASE ANYTHING.
aNOTHER IS THAT HE HAD ISSUES IN HIS LIFE, WHICH IS TRUE AND COULDN'T
DEVOTE TIME TO THE PROJECTS.
oNE THING TO NOTE IS THAT HE NEVER RELEASED MUCH INFO ABOUT WHAT WAS
GOING ON IN THE WAY THAT IF HE HAD TO PUSH BACK HIS DATES BECAUSE OF
PERSONAL ISSUES WE WOULD ALL UNDERSTAND, ETC.
mY VIEW IS THAT HE STARTED PREEORDERS BEFORE HE EVEN HAD GOT THE
GAMES, ETC READY, SET A DATE AND THEN EVERYONE EXPECTED HIM TO BE
BOUND BY THAT DATE.
oFCAUSE TO BE FAIR THE IDUSTRY AS A WHOLE HADN'T DONE ANY PREORDERS
THIS WAS ONE OF THE FIRST SUCH CASES.
aNYWAY OBVIOUSLY HE COULDN'T MAKE IT, WHICH IS FINE BUT WITH NO
INFO COMING THE COMMUNITY WAS LEFT HANGING FOR 5 YEARS.

OR WAS IT 4?
aNYWAY LOADS INCLUDING ME GOT FED UP, THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL
ON THE PREORDER LIST, THEY HAVE PAYED AND RECIEVED NOTHING FOR IT.
i THINK THE ONLY SAVING GRACE, IS THAT WHEN HE FINALLY BAILED, HE
SOLD THE MONTI AND RACEWAY RIGHTS TO TOM, OTHERWISE i THINK LOADS ON
THE PREORDER LISTS WOULD PROBABLY TRY TO SUE TO GET THEIR CASH BACK
OR SOMETHING, i WOULD IF i WAS IN THEIR POSITION.
oUT OF ALL THAT THOUGH WE HAVE LEARNED NOT TO PREORDER TILL WE HAVE A
RELEASE DATE SET AND NOT TO SET THAT DATE TILL WE ARE JUST ABOUT TO
FINNISH THE PROJECT.
oK, SO NOT ALL COMPANIES RELEASE INFO, BUT THEN NOT ALL ARE MAKING
GAMES AT ONCE AND AT LEAST THEY KEEP SOMETHING GOING.

wE HAVE MOVED ON FROM MOST OF THAT NOW.
mOST COMPANIES HAVE EMAIL LISTS NOW, GMA, BSC, AND LWORKS PCS DON'T
BUT THEY DON'T MAKE TO MANY TITLES THOUGH THEY ARE WORKING ON THAT.

RSGAMES AND THE SOUNDRTS GAME HAS A LIST AND A BLOG.
tHE AUDIOGAMES.NET SITE TIES US OVER WITH THE OPENSOURCE GAMES WE ALL

KEPT GAMING INTERESTS ACTIVE.

wE HAVE LOADS MORE DEVS OUT THERE TO.
i SUPPOSE IN A WAY WE SHOULD HAVE SEEN IT COMING THAT JAMES WOULD
HAVE HAD ISSUES IN GENERAL, THE GENISUS PROJECT WAS SHELVED, ESP
ALMOST CLOSED BUT BECAME ADORA, ADORA HAD ISSUES OR AT LEAST ONE OF
THE OWNER DID AND THAT BECAME DRACONIS.
iN MY VIEW, JAMES SHOULD NEVER HAVE SOLD ESP, AND NEVER SHOULD HAVE
TRIED TO MOVE ON, WELL AT LEAST TILL WELL MAYBE 2008 OR SOMETHING
WHEN A LOT OF NEW TECH WAS COMING OUT ETC.
sAYING THAT ARGUABLY THERE COULD BE THE THING THAT IF JAMES HAD
CONTINUED USAGAMES MAY NOT HAVE EXISTED IN THE WAY IT WAS, SINCE
BEFORE JAMES WENT USAGAMES WAS THE ONLY OTHER COMPANY THAT HAD A TREK GAME.
oN THE SUBJECT OF LISTS FOR DEVS, THE ONLY ONE NOT CREATED BY A DEV
IS JIM KITCHEN'S LIST THAT IS A USER CREATED LIST NOT THAT TO MUCH OF
JIM IS ON HERE AS IT IS, STILL, BEING ONE OF THE LONGEST MEMBERS THAT
HAS TO BE SOMETHING.
tHE ONLY GUYS THAT HAVE STOOD IT OUT ARE PCS, GMA, AND JIM KITCHEN,
NOT SURE ABOUT LWORKS THOUGH IT HAS LASTED QUITE A WHILE TO At 01:24

I actually liked the story of Monkey Business. As for James nobody really k
nows what he's up to these days, only that so far as we can tell he's no
longer developing, or if he is it's for his personal enjoyment. While I
agree he could have handled things better I don't blame him in the least for

throwing in the towel. People in this community seriously overreacted, even
if their discontentment was justified. But it's people like that who make it

harder on the rest of us and give blind people a bad name. But it's as I've
said before, all we can do is learn from the mistakes he made and do our
best not to repeat them. I for one don't plan on taking preorders on games
or if I do it won't be until I know the game is well and truly on the home
stretch to release.

Hi Phil,
Hm...Now, that's weird. according to what you said it sounds like
Microsoft knows the default Anna voice for Vista/Windows 7 is
unusually low and have produced a more commercial version that ships
with their applications. I can't help but find that a bit strange.

Cheers!

 Hi Ramy
Although I play the demo of q9 because I cannot afford the registered
version at this stage, I can answer your question because I have
 listened to
 Philip benfall's q9 recording.
Just for the fun of it, and to listen how Philip Bennfall's voice
 sounds
like, I have listened to his recording of q9 game play.
I haven't came across any huge spoilers in his recording.
 But that's just me.
Others may want to try finish the game first before listening to
 Philip's
 recording.
The cheets is only available if you purchased the registered version.
And the cheets is only available once you completed the game.
So once you completed the game, you will be told that the cheets file
 is
 placed on your desktop.
 Hth.

The same cheets will work for all of the versians but you have to go to
your other computer and copy the file on to a thumbdrive or something.

You can't enter a coad and get the cheets.
Though that would be awesome.

Re: [Audyssey] fighting games-was Re: marvel vs. capcom 3 gameplay

2010-10-20 Thread Johnny Tai
Heh, I download the digimon battle arena for my PSP. It's kinda cute in the
beginning, but after a few stages it just got boring since you play every
char the same way just with different flashy transformations and such- that
got to be the shortest-living game on my PSP.
Had soul blade on it too but for some reason when I unlocked the secret char
Han, and tried to select the game would crash lol.
Currently I'm visiting one of my old favorites during my down times- Star
Gladiator- a fighting game probably very few remember.
It's a capcom 3d fighting game with star warsish plot and chars, and soul
blade-like gameplay.
Some that remember say it was the best 3d fighting game of its time, I don't
know if I'd go that far, but I definitely loved/still love it.
The down side is my copy doesn't have any music beyond the intro for some
weird reason...very anoying.

Re: [Audyssey] fighting games-was Re: marvel vs. capcom 3 gameplay

2010-10-20 Thread clement chou
I've seen the movie, didn't like it much. Yeah the fights were okay, but
they messed up the story like you said.

This is why I don't call fighting games based f animes fighting games. They
have people fighting one on one, yes, but they're more akin to brawlers...
so many of them are about flash and not about good mechanics. This is where
I don't like reviewers like gamespot and ign, because they call them games
with deep mechanics and good fighting systems. There's a reason they aren't
played competetively, and if you talk to any real true fighting gamer who
loves their fighters, they'll tell you that KOF, SF and tekken are real
fightings. Naruto: ultimate ninja games, dragon ball z games, aren't what we
would call fighters.

Anyhow, I think feng's dialog is cheesy too... but no more cheesy than any
other chinese action movie. lol.

Re: [Audyssey] fighting games-was Re: marvel vs. capcom 3 gameplay

2010-10-20 Thread Johnny Tai
Maybe bad's the wrong term, Feng's Mandarin's okay, it's the um, dialog I
guess, that's really cheesy for him lol. I do love that character though,
his style's great and I always got a thing for more explosive
characters---my favorite is still Bryan Fury...even the name rocks.
Watched the new Tekken film yet? The fights are great, though I think the
storyline they changed it to really needs some work.
I wish there is a good DBZ fighting game for psx/ps2 out there- so far what
I've seen are mostly what I'd call 'eye candy' made to appeal fans and not
much else.
Back with SNES, the DBZ fighting games were well made, and even those who
don't know the series could pick it up and had a field-day with them.
I was one such player lol, I had no idea what DBZ was really about, but I
saw this cool fighting game with this big dude named Android 16 who could do
some impressive moves like shoot his hands out as missile...lol...and I was
hooked.
When I tried the DBZ fighting game, can't remember which one, on PSX, and
found out all it was was you fly all over the screen trying to line up a
shot at your opponent who's doing the same, I was so disappointed.
