In simple terms, a mud is a multiplayer text base game. Here's some more
information about muds.

 capabilities.

Btw, what is dragonrealms? an online game I assume, but not one I've

What's a good accesible chat application? I play Dragon Realms, and it
would be useful to communicate with other players without email. I
 think
most of them use AOL Instant Messenger.

Re: [Audyssey] Alter Aeon Question

2008-04-21 Thread Stefen Hudson
Hi,

Not to my knowledge. I've actually pondered the idea of making a sound pack,
but a lot of the magic type sounds I find don't really sound like how I
imagine spells in Alter Aeon sounding. Actually, if you've heard of the
spell shard storm, I kind of imagine that sounding like a wind storm with
little shards of glass tinkling mixed in.

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Visual Basic 6 reasons why I love it

 Hi Bryan,
Well, personally I would strongly recommend that anyone interested in
Visual Basic at least give Visual Basic 2008 a try. It is free, and
contains many of the features Jim Kitchen mentioned earlier.
As for Visual Basic 6 you can still get it used from some place like
Ebay, but why would you really want to? We are talking Windows 98 era
stuff, and if you are looking at something that is more with the times
VB 2008 is a newer and better solution. One major advantage VB 2008 has
over VB 6 is an improved object oriented design like C++, Java, etc
with the same ease of use as VB 6.
Though, before I go I want to give this little disclaimer. You really
should be running at least Jaws 7 or higher to be able to use the VB
2008 IDE. I've used it with Jaws 9 and it works fine. I have not tried
it with Jaws 4.02 and I am not all that sure I'd want to. Last time I
encountered Jaws 4.02 with some of the apps I was running on XP speech
output royally sucked with Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Nero 7,
and some of the other apps I am using. Hense the upgrade to Jaws 8 now 9.

Re: [Audyssey] monkey term question

2008-04-10 Thread Stefen Hudson
Hi,

I don't know how to make it switch synthesizers, but there's a way to filter
out words so you end up with differetn phraises by using substitutions.
You'd just need to filter out the part that says the computer says, and
you'd be left with the text of what it's saying. Here's an example. This is
the substitution for flight control in Miriani. You should be able to get
the basic idea from this.

Pattern:
^A \w+ flight control scanner announces, (.+)$
Commands:
%
Play General/Comm/FlightScanner.ogg
%%1

So, I'm hoping to be out of comms this week (I'm going with a friend
 who's
on spring break, so he'll be on about 16 hours a day etc).

So when we get out of comms, how popular are out of comms artifacts (a
flat heavy object, that claw, the chip, etc)? 1 in every 20? 30? Etc.
We're grabbing my surveyer on the way there, so not sure. Its 3700 ly
out...we had, um, well his electricity went out last night and bye bye
voyager. anyway. Was just curious how long I need to stay out there in
order to get that receiver thing?

Hi.

When you first get in there, it's a good idea to read help getting-started,
follow the directions in that, then read help activities. If you don't want
to read the help files on the game, you can read them on the web at:

As for how you ended up in a ship, it's generally a bad idea to log off or
go AFK on landing pads or out in the open. People who arent' so nice can
strand you in places where you'll have no escape without the assistance of
another player. Someone saw your character ssleeping and put you in a ship
to keep you safe from harm.

If you need help with something there, I'll be happy to help. my character's

Re: [Audyssey] A question about mud clients

2008-03-09 Thread Stefen Hudson
Or maybe I gave up on it too easily. I just don't like how it calls external
functions. In MT I can do
% play file.wav %
I can't do that in MushClient. I know you can use the Com Audio code in it
though, so that's promising. Just need a way to invoke the code, then the
Miriani sound pack can be ported to it...slowly but surely. Other than that,
I like MushClient too.

well its supposed to be good however For sertain things you need to
 load
sertain plugins to make it all work.
And the monkey term soundpack well there is no converter to convert to
 mushclient.
Mushclient haws some good scripts by shaun randel that do things like
 have
your prompt at the same time as the game prompt.
 So I suppose no laging.
Also there are scripts that will display the command lists locally of

mud you are on aparently and asign keystrokes to execute things.

 true tom.
However you also get evil races in drwho like the dalecs and well in trek
 the borg.
I always wandered what would happen if first contact with us humans was
 with the borg.
That really would put a damper on things.
we would exist to a point, present day after which we would be borg.
If startrek was like that I think it would be quite a short series.

However, then again we humans are such vain creatures, and have always

That is actually one of the reasons I like Star Trek. It calls out to

could be like in three or four hundred years. Will, the human race
destroy itself in some foolish war over greed, religion, and power, or
will mankind finally grow up and begin to answer the questions that have
puzzled us for centuries. There is no question that the concepts of
visitors from the stars or other planets goes way back into the deepest
roots of human history. Yet, even today in 2008 the topic of aliens and
UFOs is a hot topic with no conclusive results one way or another.
Either you believe or you don't. It would be nice to find answers one
way or the other though.

impossible to find with the jaws cursor that I know of. Take the website for

Subject: [Audyssey] Captchakiller.com

Today, I heard about this site on another list, and I love it. If you
ever need to use a site that requires captchas,
you will to. The url is

 www.captchakiller.com

The first thing you will have to do is sign up for an account. On the
home page, they have a lot of forum posts and
comments, but if you look for the crate an account link, you should have
 no problems at all.

Once you have an account, you can upload those bothersome captchas, and
the site will process them for you.

I had a little trouble at first, but once you realize what they want, it's
 fairly straight forward.

I'll give you the step by step instructions.
 1. go to the site that has the captcha.
 2. find the exact page that has the captcha, and copy the url that's in
 the address bar.
 3. find the captcha on the page, and right click on it.
 4. choose the save picture as option and save it to your hard drive.
 5. on the captchakiller site, choose the upload captcha link.
 6. paste the page url into the url field.
 7. hit the browse button on the page, and browse to the file you saved on
 your computer.
 8. after hitting open on the file, hit the submit button on the page.
 9. then choose the view captchas link on the page, and find the most
recently uploaded one. It should be the one at
 the top.
10 when you go through the table you'll result, and beside that is what
you have to type in for the captcha.

This may sound a little complex, but it isn't so bad once you get used to
doing it. I'm not saying it's a solution to
all our captcha problems, but it sure beats getting sighted help every
time you need a captcha interpreted.

Another helpful hint I can give you, is to keep the captchakiller site,
and the site you want the captcha for, opened at
the same time. That way, you can get the captcha processed quickly and
enter it on the site before it expires.

Hopefully, some people will find this site useful.

 Hi Shaun,
Well, I do recall on Star Trek the Enterprise crew making reference to
sectors such as sector J-25 in the Best Of Both Worlds. That suggests to
me that at least some of the star systems ar charted with a letter and
number designation the way Lonewolf is. However, I have heard reference
to actual coordinates like sector 1, 0, 9. So it could go either way.
As for menus if this thing goes real time they would have to go. You
would obviously have to turn, select weapons, raise shields, control
warp and impulse engines, all in real time. There would be no time to
 doddle with menus.

 shaun everiss wrote:
 Hmmm.
I like the menu and selections of things myself.
I don't care for the sector style of play lonewolf has, I always seem to
forget what things are I like autopilot loads.
A gtc style would rock though.
You use the compas direction to move the tank to places, in a sector.
However you start in the first sector and go the second, etc.
I suspect in stfc2 it would be more complex than that.
I don't think gtc has much navigation work in it, its mainly the fighting
 aspect.

There are a few sites with computer effects and what not on them, such as:
www.stdimension.org
www.lcarscom.net.

There used to be one called Star Trek in Sound and Vision, but it was
unfortunately shut down due to people downloading too much at once.

I suppose if you had a good audio editor you could record bits of the shows
with sounds only and attempt to filter some background sounds out. I think
the Star Trek Dimension site has some sounds from Star Trek PC games, which
aren't accessible.

Subject: [Audyssey] this post better help someone...my fingers hurt!Re: sega
genesis accessible games

Oh my god. You just made my day by asking that question. Here goes my
 fingers...type myself to sleep, heh!

 The controller for the system
Your controller looks like this; its got a kinda dimple on the part facing
 you in the middle. You have a wierd shaped skinny button on the top right;
that there is your start/pause button. Then you have your d-pad on the
 left,
of course- and your A, B, and C buttons on the right.

 the system itself:
Early systems, known as genisus 1 systems, had a headphone jack and volume
control on it. It also had a wierd little switch to turn the system on
 that
I found to be a bit finicky. I have a hard time turning mine on, anyway!
 The
second system lacked the volume control and headphone jack, and its also a
lot smaller. But I stil love my v1 system due to the fact the sega cd can
mount directly underneeth it. More on that later.

the third system was sould by, uh, I can't remember. It was very slimmed
down- some games had a hard time running on it, and it didn't work at all
with any of the add on consoles, like the sega cd.

The add ons for the console

Well, the first genisus saw the add on of the sega cd; cd's were much more
cost efficient, and in its day the sega cd could play FMV (full motion
video) flawlessly. However that's not our main concern; my concern is the
fact the system could play cd quolity music! r! Also the voices were
amped up a bit; but at a steep 400 bucks, the system didn't see much
popularity. Now, however, along with the genisus, this system packs a
 pretty
mean punch- or at least, it does for me.

the first sega cd system was mounted directly under the genisus. It
 featured
a front loading drive, similar to those found on a cd rom drive of your
modern PC. The reset button on the genisus was its eject button, enabling
the front cd drive to pop out (way cool!)

The second one was a top loading system, similar to your boomb box. It sat
beside the genisus, however I find it a bit less sturdy than the first
 unit.

 Compatibility:
Well, I think the first sega cd only works on the first genisus, which
sucks; but the second sega cd will work with the first genisus. I love
 both
these systems, and I own both models of each.

 games

mortal kombat 3: While the menus don't speak, I just have to love that
 there
music, don't you? Also, the you win and fight speech is wa coool!
 I
love nightwolf- my favorite MK character of all time! Live long nightwolf!
Streets of rage: another of namcos (?) great games, streets of rage 1 and
 2
spanned over the genisuses lifetime. They were great all around, with not
 to
bad sound effects, and I somewhat know what I'm doing on it. I used to be
able to get all the way to level 8 or so, but its been a while. Btw, its
really great on the console itself- emulators, I find, slow it down just a
 tad.
another great game that I enjoyed was outrunners 2019. I don't know why.
 It
was, well, somewhat accessible- but not all that much. But, in terms of
accessibility, there are a lot of FAQS for the mortal kombat games that
helped me. Also for streets of rage, you'll know when you hit someone.

Also golden axe rocks. Not sure why- but its somewhat (keep in mind I keep
saying somewhat!) accessible. BUt once again, FAQS on gamefaqs.com should
help that. They helped for me.

Have a good day from Tyler C. Wood!

Well, I didn't mind streetfighter 2 for the genisus either. I loved the
music in there, and it wasn't hard to see that you or your enemy got
destroyed. BUt yes, the sness version rocked too. I remember I was playing
as this one guy, and I kept getting beat. but man! what a sound when he
lost! It must have been one of those japanese! he had a real high pitched
voice (I mean seriously really, it was helarious). When I destroyed

though, it was 2 player, remember that? So I destroyed my friend and he
 must
have been a man. He said it was, he was sited. I sware, he sounded like a

The Sega CD version of Silpheed was somewhat accesible as well. No
 talking
menus, but you heard sounds when you hit enemies and when they hit you.

Super Nintendo, Street Fighter all the way.

 sega
 genesis accessible games

Oh my god. You just made my day by asking that question. Here goes my
 fingers...type myself to sleep, heh!

 The controller for the system
Your controller looks like this; its got a kinda dimple on the part
 facing
you in the middle. You have a wierd shaped skinny button on the top
 right;
that there is your start/pause button. Then you have your d-pad on the
 left,
of course- and your A, B, and C buttons on the right.

 the system itself:
Early systems, known as genisus 1 systems, had a headphone jack and
 volume
control on it. It also had a wierd little switch to turn the system on
 that
I found to be a bit finicky. I have a hard time turning mine on, anyway!
 The
second system lacked the volume control and headphone jack, and its also
 a
lot smaller. But I stil love my v1 system due to the fact the sega cd
 can
mount directly underneeth it. More on that later.

the third system was sould by, uh, I can't remember. It was very slimmed
down- some games had a hard time running on it, and it didn't work at
 all
with any of the add on consoles, like the sega cd.

The add ons for the console

Well, the first genisus saw the add on of the sega cd; cd's were much
 more
cost efficient, and in its day the sega cd could play FMV (full motion
video) flawlessly. However that's not our main concern; my concern is
 the
fact the system could play cd quolity music! r! Also the voices were
amped up a bit; but at a steep 400 bucks, the system didn't see much
popularity. Now, however, along with the genisus, this system packs a
 pretty
mean punch- or at least, it does for me.

the first sega cd system was mounted directly under the genisus. It
 featured
a front loading drive, similar to those found on a cd rom drive of your
modern PC. The reset button on the genisus was its eject button,
 enabling
the front cd drive to pop out (way cool!)

The second one was a top loading system, similar to your boomb box. It
 sat
beside the genisus, however I find it a bit less sturdy than the first

Also, the you win and fight speech is wa
 coool!
 I
love nightwolf- my favorite MK character of all time! Live long
 nightwolf!
Streets of rage: another of namcos (?) great games, streets of rage 1
 and
 2
spanned over the genisuses lifetime. They were great all around, with
 not
 to
bad sound effects, and I somewhat know what I'm doing on it. I used to
 be
able to get all the way to level 8 or so, but its been a while

 Hi all,
Has anyone else noticed that it's really unfortunate and awful that there
are suddenly, as far as I know, hardly any educational games for blind
children? Before there used to be so many, MindsEye2, or something like
that, they apparrently had good quality educational games, and Code
 Factory
also had all those fairy tales, now they've stopped, I can't think of
anything teachers of young blind children can use, how did this suddenly
happen? PCS also had one, I think.

You could have it set up so that maybe i some situations the sword
 wouldn't
be feasible, so you'd have to swith to the whip or some other weapon.
There's a Skeleton on a distant platform that would prevent you from
 making
the jump unless it was dealt with. Sine trying to jump and swing a sword
 at
the same time might be dangerous, she could always draw her bow and take
 it
out before even attempting the leap. Makes a lot of sense, especially if
Angela had to grab onto the ledge or whatever to pull herself up. Kinda
 hard
to do that when swinging a sword.

 Hi Richard and all,
Well, one of the cool things about replacing skulls with armed skeleton
warriors could be the game could be mor combat oriented. Perhaps Angela
would have to find bows and arrows, whips, swords, and other sorts of
weapons around the temple to kill undead warriors with.
As it stands now you need to find a sword for every monster. We all
would agree that is pretty unrealistic. Perhaps one sword for the entire
game, or a series of different types of swords. A long sword would have
greater range than a short sword, but a whip would have good range but
do less damage. If you look at these sorts of elements maybe this is
good that this has happened. You know?

 Hi Nicol,
Yes, there are some Nintendo and Game Boy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle
games. I own the original TMNT 1 and 2 games for the NES, and played
them like crazy when I still had sight to play them.
Of course when those games came out in 1989 and 1990 Ninja Turtles were
like the rave of every kid in America. I had ninja Turtle action
figures, a stuffed Ninja Turtle on my bed, Ninja Turtle t-shirts, video
taped copies of the tv shows, read the comic books, had the video games,
 etc.
Anyway, I certainly could write a ninja fighting game, but I wouldn't
specifically base it on Ninja Turtles. Ninja Turtle stuff is still being
made, and while not as popular as it once was it still has a rather
 expensive copyright.

 Hello everyone,
I would like to announce that the Montezuma's Return copyright issues
have been successfully resolved this afternoon. Here is what is
happening so everyone is aware of what to expect over the next few days.
First, I have agreed to change the title of Montezuma's Return to
something else, and remove all references of Montezuma's Return from my
web site. Tentatively I am thinking of republishing the game under the
title Angela's Quest. Though, the name of the game is only one thing I
have to think over the next few days.
Second, since this game is not really going to be Montezuma's Revenge or
Montezuma's Return any more I have decided to use my own creative
license to make some changes in the game which I hope all of you like.
For example, rather than bouncing and rolling skulls I am going to
replace them with sword wielding skeleton warriors.
Third, since all the game levels were based directly on Montezuma's
Revenge's levels I have also agreed to modify the levels and redesign
 the temple levels from scratch.
Finally, because I am aware it could take a couple of months to redesign
the game fully I will be releasing a patched version of Montezuma's
Return Beta 9 to the web site under its new name.
I also want everyone to know all of your product keys you have received
for Montezuma's Return will still work with the new game. I am not
planning on making changes to the product activation and licensing code
other than to assign your product keys to the new product name and
version. However, your keys should still work fine.

Please don't uninstall the game without really giving it a try. I'm
 farely
good with self destruct. Its just level10 that's a bit hard for me but I
even managed to beat level10 in some way. Please tell me where in the game
you get stuck, I want to help you.
I think self destruct is a great game.
If you tell me where you get stuck, I can help you out and maybe you will
 then enjoy the game.
 Please give it another try.
If you really don't want to play it further, I will then tell you if its
safe to uninstall the game like you said, but just give me a chance to
 help
 you out.

So...I tried out Self-destruct and now want to uninstall it. The problem
 is
it tells me that the format of the uninstal log isn't recognized by that
version of the uninstaler. Is it safe to just delete the menu shortcuts
 and
program folder manually, or are there also registry keys I'll have to
 manually delete as well?
 Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] self distruct

2008-02-04 Thread Stefen Hudson
You can get a registration code by running the keygen program that comes
with the game. As Thomas said in another post, the program is in c:\Program
Files assuming you installed the game there. It isn't in the Self-Destruct
game folder itself. I don't think it likes Vista though. When trying to get
a game ID it says it doesn't exist, and when trying to uninstal it says the
uninstal.dat log isn't recognized. I'm guessing I have to manually uninstall
the game, but I don't know if it has any registry keys created.

AVG rocks, don't you ever forget that. You want to know something? I
downloaded and had nortin on this pc, and when nortin found none, AVG
 found
some. I tried almost every virus scanning program before buying AVG. I
 hate
mcafee. I will never use it. I feel sorry for anyone who does. SOrry for
getting off topic here, I just love AVG and hate seeing it get put down
 like
that. As far as games go, I've never had issues with this program
 detecting
them as viruses. I wouldn't be surprised to find that nortin and mcafee,
system hoggers that they are, find some, because they're idiotic and, imho
 anyway, annoying to begin with.

sorry for getting off topic, just my oppinion, and I stand up for AVG

tHERE IS SOME THINGS i DON'T LIKE WITH AVG.
iTS SHELL, SCANNERS AND THE REST OF ITS SCANNERS DO NOT MATCH.
IE IF i SCAN SOMETHING WITH THE SHIELD ON AND ITS DETECTED AS A VIRUS,
 THE
MAIN SCANNER WILL DETECT IT BUT THE SHELL SCANNER WILL NOT EVEN IF i SCAN
 THE FILE.
mORE OVER EVERY FILE WITH 2 EXTENTIONS IE .BAT.TIF, .TXT.BAT, ETC WILL
 DETECT AS A VIRUS.
gRANTED SOME OF THIS IS NEEDED.
BUT IF A FILE FROM LINUX CONVERT IS .LNX.TXT OR .TXT.LNX THEN IT AINT A
 VIRUS IS IT.
aND OK IF A FILE SAYS .JPG.EXE THEN OK, UNLESS OFCAUSE YOU LAGITIMATELY
 MADE IT THAT WAY.
i FOUND THE SHIELD A REAL PROBLEM WHEN USING LINUX.
i HAD TO CONVERT UNIX TEXT AND WINDOWS TEXT QUITE FREQUENTLY.
wHAT i'D DO WOULD TO NAME MY LINUX FILE AS THE NAME OF THE SYSTEM IE UNX
 UNIX LNX LINUX, DOS ETC.
aT THE END i'D NAME THE FILES AS SUCH FILE.LNX.TXT
 CONVERTED FILE FILENAME.DOS.TXT
aND THEN AFTER THAT i'D RENAME THE FILES FILENAME.LNX AND FILENAME .TXT
ONCE CONVERTED AND i HAD ENOUGH WITH THAT.
i'D GET THINGS LIKE AVG HAS FOUND CLICKER 5S TROGEN OR AVG HAS FOUND
 GENERIC VIRUS32WIN.
sOMETIMES ITS NOT THE FAULT OF AVG, AS IN NVDA SOME VERSIONS OF PY2EXE
 ARE
KNOWN TO GENERATE VIRUS LIKE ALERTS BECAUSE OF HOW THEY ARE WRITEN.
hOWEVER i'VE ALWAYS DISABLED EVERYTHING IN AVG EXCEPT FOR THE UPDATERS,
AND VVOLT AND SHELL AS WELL AS EMAIL.
i LEAVE SHIELDS OFF BECAUSE THEY DON'T SEEM TO LIKE SOME THINGS.
ON A SIDE NOTE, AV SOFTWARE WILL DETECT KEYGENS, ETC AS VIRUSES.
aVG IN GENERAL HAS ISSUES BUT YOU CAN AVOID THEM, IT JUST INVOLVES YOU
 BEING ON YOUR TOES.
oH AND SPEAKING TO PEOPLE ABOUT THE VIRUSES AVG DETECTS FINDS THEY DON'T
 EVEN EXIST.
tRUE, AVG HAS FOUND SOME VIRUSES IN THE LAST 2 YEARS, AND KILLED THEM.
hOWEVER IT SOMETIMES PUTS GAME INSTALLS AS VIRUSES.
i'D STILL USE AVG, BUT AVOID THE SHIELD AND SCHEDULAR.
iF YOU MUST USE SHIELDS, PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT IT IS DOING
aLSO i NEVER LIKED AVG PRO MUCH.

Well if it wasn't crap to start with then it wouldn't have issues
with anything installed. does it still heal the same files over and
over and over? When you don't even have a virus? I could see it
having issues with downloaded stuff from the web like music or stuff,
but these games aren't made with viruses if they want to keep selling
them.

 Hello there.

I play Ryzali Sanlinde when I actually log on.

Sigh, I like the soundpack with monkeyTerm but I hate the fact that there
 is
no word wrap. yes, I'm sure that I am being extremely petty and
 difficult,
but for me, if I have to read back through text for something and there is
no word wrapping abilities, it irks me to no end.

Right now, I am using MushClient, and I would really like to find out
 about
a soundpack for said client. I know that there is one, however, does it
 gag
all of the lines that the monkey term one does? You know, it's like
 having
half a dozen in one hand and six in the other.

I also heard that it is a little more difficult (not that I let a little
trouble stop me), to install in vista, and I'd like some clarification on
 that.

I enjoy Miriani, but for me, that in character channel isn't nearly
in-character enough for my liking. I have enjoyed meeting those of you
 that
I have. You know who you are!

Subject: [Audyssey] New Java MUD Client Now Available,Including JMC JAWS
Script Update

Hi, in case anyone is interested, there is a new release of JMC (The Java
 MUD Client) available
(V3.5.0.2), that has some pretty interesting new features...

In case you haven't heard of JMC before... The Java MUD Client can be used
with any MUD listed at MudConnect.com, and was long thought to be out of
development for many years. However, continued development was picked up
 by
a group of Russian developers within the last five years or so, and many
 bug
fixes and feature enhancements have been added since then. JMC is now
 truly
a feature rich MUD client for advanced MUD gamers. Including such features
as logging in HTML, sound playback support, Winamp controls, updated and
accessible help documentation, plus a new inovative combat protocol that
 can
be added for more realistic combat feedback (see the help for more info
 regarding this).

Here is an excerpt from the download page at http://gutterstar.net/jmc.php

So... This is the latest release! New features include:
 * The #Play command, which allows you to play any wave sound file, and
include any number of such commands within aliases, actions, or scripted
 events!
 * The #Winamp command, which allows you to completely control Winamp
directly from within JMC! Feel free to be truly weird, and add such
 commands
 to aliases,
actions or scripted events? While you play, you can rock out to such old
time favorites as: I'm Stuck On You Babe Like Bubble Gum In Your Hair,
 and,
My Favorite Bath-Time Gurgles! No idea what use this feature is to a
 JAWS
user really, but at the very least, you can say you could...
 * Full scripting support! Now you can create interactive programs using
 the
JMC object directly, and programmatically communicate with JMC using such
 programming
languages as VBScript, JScript, XML, JavaScript, etc. Essentially, any
programming language that can reference JMC as an object!
 * Numerous bug fixes and feature enhancements!

Also, the JMC Scripts for JAWS have been updated to V4.0 to support the
 new
version. The download page for this is at
 http://gutterstar.net/jmc_scripts.php

 Direct downloads...
 JMC V3.5 Installer:

JMC Scripts for JAWS V4.0 Installer:

Subject: [Audyssey] Doctor Who Games was game releases

 Hi Dark,
Yes, there are not a lot of Doctor Who games, and there could be several
 reasons why that is so.
First, until very recently Doctor Who seams to have had a bigger fan
base in the UK than here in the USA. For example, When I was growing up
Doctor Who was usually on during late nights. I wouldn't have seen the
original shows at all if my dad hadn't vidio taped the shows for me to
watch in the day time. So it might not have had a prime time audience in
 the USA.
Second, over here in the USA Star Trek and star Wars are not only
popular but they are cultural icons. Writing a game, book, or making a
movie with one of those two is likely to be a good seller. Coming up
with something based on Doctor Who might bring in some fans, might make
a few more, but probably wouldn't do as well here in the USA.
Third, things are changing. The Sci-Fi channel is reviving both the
Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who tv series here in the USA and I
imagine the number of vidio games etc we see from the mainstream market
will largely depend on how successful those two series do.
So far while viewership is good I haven't seen the usual toys, games,
and posters in stores that accompanies a really successful tv series or
 movie.
For example, when I was growing up there use to be Battlestar Galactica
figures out. I even owned a few like Starbuck, Commander Adama, the
Cylon trooper, and the Imperious Leader. However, I have not seen
similar Battlestar Galactica toys and games for the new series. Though,
they might not be trying to market the new series that way.

 Dark wrote:
Indeed tom, the box set is great and has I think every appearence of
 Davros
in Doctor who, both in the original series and in later audio plays,
 which is cool!

 My friend is incredibly generous!

As has been said before, Daleks in an audiogame would be great,
 though
interestingly enough, unlike startrek and just about every single
 successful
film series out there, there haven't I think been many doctor who games
 even
 in the mainstream.

I remember a particularly abysmal side scroller on the old Comador
 amigar,
and I once heard of an interactive story game, but other than that I
 don't
think there have been many at all!

then again, with the new series becoming so popular, it wouldn't surprise
 me
if there ends up being a game released as well.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

Hi,

Yeah, missions can be a bit tricky, mostly because of manual piloting. The
basic pattern for missions is 9, 3, 1, 7. People usually start at 3, 3, 3

5, 5, 5 for this, but really if you have enough room and you're at a
different set of coordinates it still works. Sometimes the Praelor will
get
in your way and you won't be able to move in the direction you want. This
is
when you need to either go up or down on the Z axis or just use 2, 4, or
some other such number. If you have a combat simulator you can practice
without risk of getting your ships destroyed.

 Hey Sean,

It's Rothque Torraske from Miriani. The language that MonkeyTerm uses for
triggers/substitutions and what not is VBScript. Most of the framework
 for
playing sound already exists in afile called sound.mos. In a trigger
 you'd
simply put play file.extention along with the tags that tell the client
that the text is to be processed as code and not sent to the server.
 That's
really all there is to it. The triggers use either globular or regular
expression matching depending on what option you have checked.

Re: [Audyssey] Prefered Sapi voice for games?

2008-01-15 Thread Stefen Hudson
Wow. 3.2? I started with 3.5. The funny thing about that version of
Eloquence was it sounded like it had a sinus problem compared to the newer
versions. I've tried using the real speech voices that came with JAWS9 and
had some trouble understanding them. They do sound a bit more natural, but
sometimes they have this warble effect when they say certain words or
phraises, and sometimes they don't say the entire word.

 Hi Stefen,
You aren't the first person who has said that to me. I have a friend who
is also blind, but she is almost deaf in one ear and some partial loss
in the other. She use to tell me she had problems using her Dectalk
Express but could understand Eloquence clearly. I never understand how
 that could be.
With my own experience when Eloquence was released with JFW 3.2 I
couldn't understand it, and couldn't stand it. Of course, after a couple
of releases I got use to it, and now days I can listen to it at high
 speed.

 Other

 too.

 Hello list,
I have just stumbled across a myrical of myricals. While talking on the
phone to a dear friend of mine she mentioned it was too bad I never
backed up my info somewhere. Even if I saved it on a floppy or
something. Then, I tried to remember if I had done any major backups
before the old desktop died. As it happens in early March 2007 before
installing Vista on that system I did a full system backup to dvd to
insure nothing got lost in case I crashed and burned the install. Duh!
Well, I remember I should have such a dvd in my disks I never unpacked
from the move. Dug around, found it, restored my Thunderbird mail
folders, and there in my old email inbox was a email stating my user
name and password for my domain as well as all other data.
All is good now. I can finally begin the move today, and usagames.us
should be back online monday or Tuesday.

Re: [Audyssey] Monkey Term revisited for vista please

2008-01-05 Thread Stefen Hudson
Hi again.

Connecting with MonkeyTerm is actually pretty easy. If you already have the
import.xml file, just follow these steps. That may be why you're having
trouble to begin with. These instructions assume that you're using JAWS for
Windows. If you're using another screen reader supported by the VBScript
code in your import.xml file, modify them accordingly.

1. Open the MonkeyTerm application.
2. From the list box, choose new session.
3. Fill out the fields presented. They'll already have information for
astromud filled in, so just erase that and enter the information for Alter
Aeon. Session name should be something that you can identify the session
with. For the host name, put in dentinmud.org, and for the port, put 3010.
When all the information is entered, press enter. The client will connect to
the server, but you won't hear anything yet. We'll fix that in the next few
steps.
4. Open the file menu and select import/merge xml.
5. Navigate to the folder where you saved import.xml. When you've located
the file, either hit the open button or simply press enter in the combo box.
The import.xml file contains the VBScript code that tells MonkeyTerm how to
interface with JAWS using the JAWS API. Without it, MonkeyTerm will not
speak.
6. You should hear JAWS say, JAWS speech ready. At this point MonkeyTerm
will be interfaced with JAWS, and everything coming through the client
should be spoken. If this is not the case and you get a bunch of VBScript
errors when you look with the JAWS cursor, the dll libraries might not be
registered. If you've installed and run the GMA solitaire game, all those
dlls should have been registered. If they still aren't, then we have a
bigger problem that I unfortunately don't know how to solve.
7. Before doing anything else, save your session file with ctrl+s, or go to
the file menu and choose save. I recommend saving the file in the MonkeyTerm
directory, as it will be easier for you to find. Give the file a meaningful
name and either hit enter right there or choose the save button.
8. Close MonkeyTerm, then reopen it.
9. Use the arrow keys to find your new session file and press enter on it.
You should hear JAWS say, JAWS speech ready, letting you know that
MonkeyTerm is interfaced with JAWS again.
10. Press f4. You will find yourself back at the session information fields.
Everything should be filled out already, so press enter. You should hear the
welcome screen of Alter Aeon, and be all ready to go.

If you've followed these steps and MonkeyTerm still isn't speaking, I
recommend going to gutterstar.net and downloading GMud and the JAWS scripts
for that program if you don't already have it. Use that until you can get
MonkeyTerm to work.

Agreed. People need to realize that developers, whether they be game or
other types of developers, are human too. They have families, possibly other
jobs, and most of all, feelings. If people have problems with a product,
they should make an attempt to be polite when approaching the
developer/representative. After all, nobody's perfect, to error is human,
and having limitations is perfectly normal for everyone. If you don't like
how something works, give constructive feedback, suggest alternatives. Don't
just say Holy cow this sucks, or this isn't fair. Give reasons, valid
ones. Show some appreciation for how much time they've put into their
products. Let them know that they have your support, even if it's just a
simple thank you. Oh, and for the love of chocolate, don't tell them what
to or not to do. Like Thomas said, he isn't a robot. Actually, I think some
people are treated worse than robots. Ever heard of the Daleks from Doctor
who? OBEY, OR YOU WILL BE EXTERMINATED! YOU WILL OBEY THE DALEKS! When I
read that comment to Thomas about how completing Raceway is his job, and
that he shouldn't experiment with his code, that's what it reminded me of --
Daleks ordering others around.

Anyway, I think that's all. I also hope this whole debate was sparked by an
error in translation, as Cara put it. Error or not, I think it needed to be
said anyway.

The workaround is simply installing the GMA solitaire game from
gmagames.com. The program will install all the necessary DLL libraries and
their dependencies. That's why you can't use regsvr32. It needs dependencies
that aren't registered yet. As for why the monkeylib.exe application won't
install them...no idea.

Re: [Audyssey] MUD clients for Vista which are accessible

2008-01-01 Thread Stefen Hudson
Hi Michael,

I had this very same problem when I tried installing MonkeyTerm and speech
libraries. What fixed it was the GMA Solitaire game at gmagames.com. For
whatever reason, it was able to install the necessary dll and dependencies.

Just for reference, the VBScript code makes use of jfwapi.dll in order to
interface with JAWS. You can't use regsvr32 to register jfwapi.dll directly.
The GMA Solitaire game will register all needed files for jfwapi.dll to
work.

Re: [Audyssey] Game Engine Discussion.

2007-12-27 Thread Stefen Hudson
Hi Thomas,

I had a couple ideas about this new engine that might solve, or at least put
a dent in the pricing problems.

Maybe there could be 2 versions of the engine. One would be free, or very
low priced, and would only let people make games to play on their own
computers only. The second version would be the real deal that would let
people make stand-alone games. This would work like the learning version of
Visual Basic, allowing people to see if they want to buy the full version or
not. The user who wants to develop games for sale could buy the full
version, and the hobbyist could just use the demo version.

The second idea deals more with overall pricing and the sale of games made
by the engine. In addition to a one-time license fee for a product key, you
could give the customer code to put in their online shopping cart. I'm not
entirely sure how this would work. Either that, or you could host all the
games on a created games page and make it so 25% of those sales go to you
directly, with the remaining 75% going to the developer. If you're including
the ordering wizard in the package, you could have something in there too.
Maybe an email address that's specifically for the sale of games made with
your engine by other developers. It would almost be like hiring employees
for USA Games.

Re: [Audyssey] Game Engine Discussion.

2007-12-27 Thread Stefen Hudson
I like that idea about getting one or a few months free for every game you
submit. It might actually encourage people to submit the games to Thomas.
This means that there would be more games that could be found in one place.
Not only that, but it'd be easier on the developers. They wouldn't have to
worry about finding a place to sell, setting up a domain, etc. now, if
people wanted to go on their own, that'd be fine too. They'd just have to
pay the subscription fees every month, or whenever it would be.

On another note, something to consider is who retains ownership over the
games. I think that if a developer submits a game, USA Games owns it, and
the credit for the concept, design, etc, goes to the developer. After all,
the game would be mostly the engine, which Thomas will be coding.

Uhmmm, The first Idea, would be unreal for Thomas as I see it. But, the
Second one sounds like a winner. But, I wouldn't outright give the engine
out for free. I think a subscription base should be added, as the game is
being developed so that way it covers the cost of time that Thomas would
have to answer a billion questions and bug searching he would have to do.
Then if that Developer makes a game, and have it hosted on USA games site
which I would put mine, would then get a free few months on the
 subscription
deal or have it where for every 10 games the developer get a month free?
 Just a thought.

 Hi Kuvvosh,
Yes, using something like the GMA Engine would certainly simplify the
amount of work you have to do. The core features you need such as
DirectX are built in to the Engine. However, the GMA Engine does not
 come cheaply.
You can buy a trial version of the engine to demo for $50.00 USD. If you
then want to develope using the engine you have a variety of licencing
plans. A. you can buy the engine outright for $2000 USD. B. You can give
GMA %25 of all of your sales using the engine. C. I think a yearly
subscription is like $300 yearly. I think someone like Phil could fill
you in on the specifics of the engine.
However, GMA isn't the only one who is working on an engine. USA Games
is working on the Genesis Engine which is based up on Microsoft .Net
technology, supports Managed DirectX 9, Sapi 5, and has a game designer
form which is similar to the AGM designer except Genesis supports true
 3D environments.
One thing that sets Genesis apart from other engines is that you get
this really cool level editor which is easy to use. For example, when
the level editor starts you get a blank, 100, by 100, by 100 grid. You
can arrow to coordinates 0 0 0 and then press d to bring up the drawing
tool. Lets say you want that to be a wall. Select wall from the drop
down menu and it will be drawn in coordinates 0 0 0. Now, you want the
square above that to be a wall as well. Arrow up to 0 1 0 and repete the
 wall drawing instructions above.
You can create enemies just as easily. You can press o for game objects,
select an enemy object and drop it on the form anywhere you want to.
Then while you are on the enemy object press enter to get a list of
properties to change like attack damage, defense values, etc.

 Kuvvosh wrote:

I know most game require Direct X and .Dot Net programming. But, figured
 it
would be easier if the game engine is already built and maybe just
 working
on the objects, behavior, and effects moduals, would be much easier then
creating a whole new game engine.

 Thanks for any information.

Re: [Audyssey] Product Security was Keys for my laptop

2007-12-22 Thread Stefen Hudson
I kind of like that Internet License Manager thing Freedom Scientific uses.
It seemds more secure than the authorization keys on the floppy disks. I
know that if you can make an exact copy of the disk, you can get an
authorization on any computer. FS products are probably still crackable, but
it's probably harder now, which is good. The ILM thing they use now seems
pretty reasonable as well, as you can request additional keys if you really
need them.

 Hi Michael,
Yes, I have to agree with the point you raised just because there is a
percentage of people who will crack your product doesn't mean a
developer needs to be totally lax about security. On the other hand too
much security can be a major turn off for some potential customers. So
somewhere in between the two extremes there needs two be a balance where
the product is reasonably secure but it doesn't become a frustrating
 nightmare for the end user.
I've thought about a possible online product activation system where you
could register the game so many times before the USA Games mysql
database would need reset which would be somewhat fair. Say you could
install the game 5 times a year before it mneeds reset. That would cut
down on piracy, but again it would inconvenience the honest user if they
don't have an internet connection or if they honestly need to install
the game 5 times in one year which would seam unlikely.

That's kind of silly, Vader shooting lightning. All he did as Vader in the

Yeah, I remember there was a Star Wars fighting game or Play Station and
 you
could fight as Mara Jade if you met certain conditions in the game. And
 you
certainly didn't want to be the one fighting her if you were first
 starting
out. She had a lot of the same Lightsaber moves as Luke, but then she'd
 put
away her weapon and she could shoot lightning at you, which is something
Vader could also do. I always liked to fight as either Vader or Jade.
Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

[Audyssey] Update on jfwapi.dll

2007-12-19 Thread Stefen Hudson
Just thought I'd give a bit of an update with the problem I had about
jfwapi.dll not being registered.

The problem has been fixed! For anyone else with this problem, simply download
and install the GMA solitaire game from GMAGames.com. Since this game
interfaces directly to JAWS with the JAWS API, it properly registers the needed
library. I don't know how or why, but it works with Vista now. Thanks to those
on the list that attempted to help, and thanks to David Greenwood for that
program!

Re: [Audyssey] Thoughts About Guardian Sound.

2007-12-12 Thread Stefen Hudson
The growling by itself idea soundds kind of strange, since I don't imagine a
skull growling. That is unless it's the skull that once belonged to a
growling beast. In some games I've played, normal creatures make a single
sound, while the bigger ones make another sound along with the normal sound.
So, the boss skull could growl as well as make the normal skull sound, or
maybe lower the frequency of the normal skull sound.

 Hi everyone,
Ok, i have done some thinking about what this Guardian should sound
like. As per request everyone seams to be in agreement it shouldn't
sound like the normal skulls. Likewise I don't have any skeleton sounds
anyway to make it sound like a bunch of clacking bones. So that means we
need to think up something new.
One idea i have been toying with for the passed hour is using a dragon
or dinosaur growl sound to represent the Guardian when it is moving. Not
only would it bee deep and ominous, but it would sound like a giant
monster of some kind. What do you all think of me digging in to my
dragon sound effects and giving it that sort of dragon growl sound with
the ability to spit fire. it wouldn't be a dragon, but that kind of
monster sound would be fitting for a boss.

 Hey all.

I'm hoping this isn't off topic, as it deals with accessibility somewhat.

I've heard people are using the Monkeyterm client with Windows Vista.
 I've
attempted this myself, however I'm getting an error message when I
 attempt
to launch the program. I realize this list isn't meant for technical
support, but I figured this is one of the best places to ask.

The error message is as follows:
 Run-time error '-2147221500 (80040004)' Couldn't create key: .mos

I was hoping someone here might be able to tell me how to correct this
issue so I can continue to use the client, or at the very least direct me
to somewhere else more appropriate to ask this.

 Thanks!

 Subject: [Audyssey] Bop It Ultimate

 Hello all,
Some answers for bop it questions and complaints:
 Quote
hi all, what is the server i connect too to play one on one? I'd like to
 beat rob joy in bopet.
 End quote
You need to know the person's ip address, or if he/she has a dns host
 it's
 address.
While that person stands on one on one, you have to enter the ip or host
address. To do that, bop it on the one on one theme, enter the address
 and
 press
enter. The game will connect to him/her, and if he/she
accepts your request, the game will begin.
 Quote
the twest it key is too far away and would like to see it moved up a bit.
 End quote
The layout of the action keys are layed out in a position which is quite
challenging, but once you get used to it it'll be logical.
 Quote
can't even get the game to start, otherwise I would.
 End quote
Mike, could you explain why can't you start it please?
 Quote
I actually like how the keys are configured, it feels a bit like the
original bop it. my only complaint is that f5 for push it is extremely
annoying. I have to swing my hand all the way up there each time. arg.
wouldn't the insert key on the numpad be a better option? I'm also
 wondering
if anyone got the one on one option to work? my game crashes each time I
 try.
 End quote
Push it is indeed anoying, but it's there to pull you out from the mode
when you put your hands on the lower keys, grin. It's part of the
 challenge.
I might have a theory why your game crashes on one on one, and if it
becomes true, it'll be fixed in the next release.
Try checking your firewall or router if it blocks the required port
(2300). If it does, the game might won't notice it, and it'll try
 starting
 the server (without any
 response).
 Quote
 easy difficulty?
thought there were no difficulty levels in bop it ultimate?
 End quote
Indeed, however trickbop is harder than bop or one on one.
 Quote
Has anyone managed to connect to another person successfully in this
 game?
If so, how do you do it, and how to you host a game...
 End quote
 See the first quote.
 Quote
I only have one complaint about this game: the twist it sounds and spin
 it
sounds should be reversed so that the twist it sounds in this game are
 the
 twist it
sounds in the real bop it game--that keeps throwing me off. I'd also
 like
to see configurable keys--using the number pad keys makes more sense to
 me
 than
flinging my hands all across the keyboard.
 End quote
We tried to not follow the original bop it sounds scheme, so we made new
sounds which are similar, but not exactly the same, thus, adding our own
touches. I'm sorry, but i don't think so we will reverse the two sounds.
 Quote
One more comment about Bop it: you might consider a shared directory for
all your programs so that once you've configured it for one, you don't
 have to run
it for each additional program--a shared directory plus optional
individual directories if people do want different configs for each
 program. Question: when I
play this game, and run other software as well, I keep getting the
 windows
installer trying to install a program I don't even use or have any more.
 I tried
uninstalling and reinstalling msiexe a few times, and it seems to work
until I restart the computer, but it's not permanent. It's getting
 really
 annoying really fast.
Any ideas? I keep escaping out of this game trying to bypass the
 prompts.
Oh yes, an are you sure message before quitting would be handy.
 End quote
To make a shared directory, you can install the games you want in the
 same
folder specifying the same path when installing, and leaving or
 specifying
another path for the other games.
It seems something calls the windows installer and tries to configure
something. I am not sure if it is bop it specific.
There is only one disadvantage of adding a prompt when you'd like to quit
from the game. It'd pause the game, and it means some rest for the lazy
 ones,
 smiles.

It is possible Monkey Term is crashing do to Vista's User Account

go to the Monkey Term icon, press the context menu key, arrow to run as

Re: [Audyssey] Monkeyterm and Windos Vista.

2007-12-09 Thread Stefen Hudson
Hey Thomas.

Disabling OOAC didn't do anything for it, LOL.

I think there's a visual basic problem here, or Vista and jfwapi arent'
working together. What's happening is it says active x can't create jfwapi,
followed by several pages of object required: 'jfw' when it tries to speak.
I could post the code here if you or anyone else wants to take a look at it,
but I don't know if it's the code or the dll itself. I even tried using
regsrv32 to register it, and it says the DLL was loaded, but the entry point
server dll couldn't be located. I've tried installing other things that use
jfwapi, and they can't seem to register it either. I've even tried allowing
active content to run in Internet Options. still wasn't working.

 Hi Stefen,
Yeah, my guess is there is a problem, because Monkey Term and Jaws are
operating at two different levels of user account control access. Try
disabling UAC, restart, and see if that solves the problem. Though, I
wouldn't leave UAC off all the time. If you don't know how to do this
here is a quick howto to try this out.
Go to Vista's control panel, go to users, and where it has all the user
accounts you will find an option in there to enable/disable User Account
Control. Press enter on that link, confirm to access that dialog, and
set it to disabled, and restart. After that UAC will be off which will
allow games and other programs through under full admin control.
Normally I don't advise this since UAC is very good for system security,
but for older programs that don't properly register with UAC bomb on
 Vista.

 Hi,
That sounds strange. as I recall Comm Audio is or at least was a core
component of Windows. I have difficulty seeing why it would be any
different in Vista since many of the libs are just slightly newer XP
 libs in Vista.

You need the comm audio, I think. I'm not sure where you can get it,
 though,
this is for sounds, I'm not sure if it relates to the dll file, but as
 far
as I know nobody had problems using it with vista, besides the sounds,
 and i
dont use vista myself, so couldn't help you there.

[Audyssey] Monkeyterm and Windos Vista.

2007-12-08 Thread Stefen Hudson
Hey all.

I'm hoping this isn't off topic, as it deals with accessibility somewhat.

I've heard people are using the Monkeyterm client with Windows Vista. I've
attempted this myself, however I'm getting an error message when I attempt to
launch the program. I realize this list isn't meant for technical support, but
I figured this is one of the best places to ask.

The error message is as follows:
Run-time error '-2147221500 (80040004)' Couldn't create key: .mos
Time='12/06/07 22:33:51' App='MonkeyTerm:2.1.0'
Server='THEFORCE' InTrans=No
Method: RegistryHandler.CreateKey
Number: -2147221500 = H80040004 = vbObjectError + 4 =
ERRMAP_APP_FIRST - 5194
Source: RegistryHandler.CreateKey
Description: Couldn't create key: .mos
  Trace: RegistryHandler.CreateKey(Root=-2147483648,
sKeyName='.mos')
  Trace:
MainModule.SetScriptfileViewer(strViewer='NOTEPAD.EXE')
  Trace: MainModule.InitRegistry()
  Trace: MainModule.Main()
OK

I was hoping someone here might be able to tell me how to correct this issue so
I can continue to use the client, or at the very least direct me to somewhere
else more appropriate to ask this.

Thanks!

Re: [Audyssey] Monkeyterm and Windos Vista.

Hmm. I got that to work, but now the jfwapi won't work. Monkeyterm uses
VBScript to access jfwapi.dll, and whenever it tries to speak it brings up
all these VBScript runtime errors, saying it can't create objects and object
required.

I did try manually registering jfwapi.dll, but it says the dll was loaded
but couldn't be registered. My guess is Vista doesn't like jfwapi, haha.
Maybe it's that user account thing again

This is quite on topic. So don't worry about it. Monkey Term is on topic
since allot of users do use it on here for accessing muds.

It is possible Monkey Term is crashing do to Vista's User Account
control. Try the following and see if it helps. To bypass Vista's UAC
go to the Monkey Term icon, press the context menu key, arrow to run as
administrator, and press enter. Vista will prompt you to confirm, and
then launch the program as a full administrator. In my personal
experience this usually bypasses allot of crashes on apps that can't run
 do to UAC.
