Re: [Audyssey] MOTA beta 8

2009-10-19 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Phil,
well, I don't think a knife will be necessary at this point. Last night
I began working on hand to hand combat code for Mysteries of the
Ancients beta 9. If you press the spacebar with your weapons holstered
Angela will begin throwing kicks and punches at the nearest enemy
creature in range.
I just finished working on the hand to hand fighting code a little while
ago, and am now trying it on for size. It isn't too bad with the amazons
and skeletons, but it takes a lot to take down a centaur, and I haven't
even dared try to take on Kerberos yet with hand to hand only.

You could take the dagger function and reduce its damaging capability.
I think this would satisfy most people and get the job done faster.

2009-10-18 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for the bug report. At this point i'm not sure what more I can do
to fix it. Something is flipping the trigger for the sound, and there
doesn't seam to be a way of disabling it So that is going to be a toughy
to solve.
As for giving you the dagger to start with I'm not going to do that, but
I do have plans on adding fists to a future update. I've had so many
requests for that particular feature I'm going to do it sometime between
now and the final release. Just not sure exactly when it will get added.
As far as jumping over enemies it is difficult to do it without being
hit. After all if you jump over a skeleton there is still a chance he
will swing his weapon upwards and graze you while you are in the air.
Centaurs likewise can still hit you with a fireball while you are
jumping, but only with much less accuracy.

I also had a question. I'm only going to ask it once, and I'll take your answer
for what it is. I'm not going to argue about it or anything, I just think it's
logical. Can we at least start with the dagger, so we have something to defend
ourselves with when we run out of amo? The dagger is the weakest of the
weapons, so I don't think it's a big deal. I still can't understand how you
jump over the enimies, I've tried it several times, and I always get killed, or
at least half of my health gets taken away.
I really don't care if you change it or not because I've already beaten the
game, and eagerly awaiting new levels. I just think having the dagger makes
sense. Kind of like Shades of doom.
Thanks,

Well I don't think you're going to be jumping over enemies without taking
any damage until you get really good. It is possible to do, I've done it a
few times but I've always lost a few health points in the process. You have
to be kinda quick.

[Audyssey] MOTA beta 8 thoughts

2009-10-16 Thread Charles Rivard
The sound problems with the low health still being in the menus has been
squashed. On my machine, although I do not know why, the game seems to be
reacting faster than in beta 7. The keyboard seems to be more responsive.

Are the monsters more difficult to defeat? Yes.
Are they more bothersome and troublesome? Yes.
Replay value? You betcha!
No, I have not beaten the game. I like it anyway. I cannot get through level
1, and the beta testers should have fun when more levels are added. Hopefully,
those levels won't cause more bugs to delay this great game's release. Good
job, Tom!

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA beta 8

2009-10-16 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Charles,
Well, I primarily dropped joystick and mouse support for a couple of
reasons.
First, the code really needed to be rewritten anyway so that I can
redesign it so the joysticks can be remapped by the end user. In other
words if a certain gamer has joystick x he or she can go into the game
and reconfigure it to work with their prefered settings rather than
using the defaults I supplied.
Second, the joystick and mouse was partly responcible for the jumping
bug i fixed. You see if you tried to jump with a joystick or mouse you
would not stop until you hit a wall. When I fixed that nasty bug it
caused a bug with the jump command and the keyboard. Well, in order to
fix the problem with the jump command and the keyboard we had the same
problem with the joystick we had before. In the end I decided it it was
just better to pull the joystick and mouse support until I had time to
work on the problem at my leasure.
As I have said several times today I'm now working on a time table to
hopefully complete 1.0 before the holidays. As a result I don't want to
leave any serious bugs behind, make the game as stable as it can be ,
without having any unnecessary delays. Once 1.0 is out and I have time
to work on these extra features weather it is hand to hand combat,
joysticks, or whatever I'll do so here and there as I find time.

Smile.
