Hi Josh, Glad to here that. I was dismayed to see that ESP Raceway was using such a well known packing format, and that there are plenty of crackers out there that could pick it up in 10 seconds or less. Hello, The method of sound packing that Tom's aware of was employed in some of our titles, but we have long since abandoned it. The pinball table sounds themselves are packed in a way to discourage hacking. A dedicated hacker could doubtless extract the sound data, but would be hard pressed to recompile the pinball tables, and we would not be pleased with such activity in any case. ___ Gamers mailing list .. no, it wasn't, i don't use it for that purpose, but i do use it for changing the version numbers of programs that i write and release, as it always comes up with the autoit version being used. because i use it for this, i just happen to know that it can retrieve sounds and midi files within the program should you want to. regards, damien - Original Message - From: "david" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Monday, November 13, 2006 12:56 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files > That was not a wise move, i think. > - Original Message - > From: "x-sight interactive" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "Gamers Discussion list" > Sent: Sunday, November 12, 2006 6:04 PM > Subject: Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files > > > > well that is quite easy to hack, unless you encrypt the sounds in the exe. > > there is a resource hacking program, which coincidently i use for changing > > the version information for the programs i make which can retrieve sounds > > out of exes and dlls. > > > > regards, > > > > damien > > > > > > - Original Message ----- > > From: "Thomas Ward" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > To: "Gamers Discussion list" > > Sent: Sunday, November 12, 2006 8:37 PM > > Subject: Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files > > > > > >> > >> Hi, > >> Also there is another way to secure sound effects and it is about as > >> full proof as it gets. well that is quite easy to hack, unless you encrypt the sounds in the exe. there is a resource hacking program, which coincidently i use for changing the version information for the programs i make which can retrieve sounds out of exes and dlls. regards, damien - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Sunday, November 12, 2006 8:37 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files > > Hi, > Also there is another way to secure sound effects and it is about as > full proof as it gets. Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files
Hi, Also there is another way to secure sound effects and it is about as full proof as it gets. In Visual C++ you can clude your effects as a resource, and compile it directly in to the *.exe file. It pretty much insures no one will get at them. You can also build them in to a *.dll and access them remotely. I recommend the *.dll as it makes them extremely secure, and it doesn't make your *.exe file the size of Texas. > it is an interesting topic though. if people do want to encrypt their sounds > they all do it in different ways. some people use comaudio to do all the > dirty work, some people use other external software, and then there are > those that try and disguise them by changing a .zip filename to .dat or > something similar, then there are those experts that write out their own > encryption/decryption routines. i wouldn't encrypt many of my game sounds, > as it can be fun to change the sounds and hear what it sounds like with > different effects, but as i learned quite a while back by thomas here, and > other devs on this list, some companies think differently, so we all have to > respect their policies, which i can fully understand. > > regards, > > damien > ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files
Hi, That is correct. If a game company is encrypting there files in a file then they generally don't want you copying, changing, or doing things with the game files. Cracking the files can get you in hot water with the company in question. I as a developer know what Draconis was using for it's own titles I myself now am able to make the ESP files since I took over Alchemy's Raceway project. However, I am not willing to share that information with the public at large. Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files
it is an interesting topic though. if people do want to encrypt their sounds they all do it in different ways. some people use comaudio to do all the dirty work, some people use other external software, and then there are those that try and disguise them by changing a .zip filename to .dat or something similar, then there are those experts that write out their own encryption/decryption routines. i wouldn't encrypt many of my game sounds, as it can be fun to change the sounds and hear what it sounds like with different effects, but as i learned quite a while back by thomas here, and other devs on this list, some companies think differently, so we all have to respect their policies, which i can fully understand. regards, damien - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Sunday, November 12, 2006 4:09 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files > Hi, > Ahemm... Re: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files
if the developer has encrypted any files in their products it's because they don't want them tampered with. usually if a game dev wants to allow sounds to be changed they don't encrypt the sounds, but sometimes even if the sounds are decrypted it's because a dev doesn't know how to. so i doubt you'll be able to. that's just my thoughts and experiences on the matter. regards, damien - Original Message - From: "Samuel Wilkins" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Sunday, November 12, 2006 3:33 PM Subject: [Audyssey] ESP Pinball Extreme Files > Hello, Does anyone know of a way of unpacking the ESP Pinball Extreme files into wave files? Hi, Ahemm... Yeah, it is possible, and there are tools that could do it, but I would be compromising ESPs security by allowing you to know the secrets of how they pack and unpack the *.esp files. It's a technology USA Games may or may not use in our comercial games so I would be shooting myself in the foot if I gave the secret away as well. Grin.
