Sounds very cool - and the sort of game you could easily spend quite a bit of
time playing sometimes.

Hi everyone,

As many of you might remember for the last couple of months or so I've
been working on a text-based wrestling game named WWE: Superslam. Its
similar to the old Dos Piledriver game in concept, but I hope to
improve upon that design as I go along.

Anyway, Tonight I was testing the game and had a very cool wrestling
match I'd like to share with you all. It was a WWE Diva's match
between Kelly Kelly and Beth Phoenix. It was based on their title
match at Summer Slam, but actually better as I was playing it via the
game.

The game started out with me, playing as Kelly Kelly, and I thought
I'd try and soften Beth Phoenix up with some punches, kicks, and take
her down to the matt with some takedown moves like leg sweeps or an
arm drag. Unfortunately, for me Beth Phoenix managed to get the upper
hand and started handing Kelly Kelly's butt to her. Beth drove a knee
lift into Kelly's face, and then dropped her to the mat with a
spinning powerbomb. From there she basically tossed Kelly Kelly around
the ring like a rag doll with a series of slams, suplexes, and threw
in a few extra kicks and punches here and there for good measure.

Realising I'm like getting nowhere real quick I decided to take a page
out of Eve Torres's playbook and go for some high risk arial moves. As
soon as Kelly manages to escape the beating Beth is giving her I climb
up onto the second rope, and perform a springboard moonsault. Kelly
Kelly moonsault's off the second rope and hits Beth Phoenix like a
cruise missile and Beth crashes to the matt. I then catch Beth Phoenix
in Kelly Kelly's classic victory roll, and pin her for the three
count. That's how the Glamazon crashed and burned. What do you think
about that match, eh?

Cheers!

Hi Tom.

I've not seen that title match you mentioned, but that one sounds awsome!

Pluss from a game perspective I like the idea that changing tactics can
actually affect the game sinse as I've said, it's reactive gameplay which
for me is extremely interesting, and an alteration in tactics having such a
massive impact (a moonsalt full of impact no less), is just the sort of
thing I'd be interested to see.

Re: [Audyssey] WWE Superslam

2011-09-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

Yeah, that was in fact a bit of luck on my part. I thought when I went
for the springboard moonsault that Beth Phoenix would move out of the
way and Kelly Kelly would just splash into the matt, serious screw up
there, or that I'd knock Beth down, but not be able to capatalize on
the move. As it happened Beth was stunned long enough to go for a
victory roll and pin her to the mat for a full three count.

Now, one thing I'd like to do here is work on the general AI system to
play to an opponent's strengths. That is if a wrestler is good in a
skill set to tend to favor those moves over other less skilled moves.

For instance, Beth Phoenix is a strong female wrestler and tends to
favor powerhouse moves such as powerbombs, various bodyslams, and
suplexes. In fact, her finisher is the Glam Slam which is basically
just a press slam.

Now, someone like Kelly Kelly is small and light. She's almost 50
pounds lighter than Beth Phoenix, and she usually does well with hit
and runn attacks such as small punches, spin kicks, missile dropkicks,
etc. Also her small size and stature makes her more naturally built
for arial type moves like flying crossbody attacks, springboard
moonsaults, etc. You have to play to a performers strengths if you
want to win a match.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] WWE Superslam

2011-09-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Mike,

No, not yet. There is still a lot of work to be done. For one thing I
still need to finish adding WWE superstars to the database. At the
moment I've only added about 14 Diva's to the female roster, and
haven't even started adding male superstar's like Jon Cena, CM Punk,
Randy Orton, etc to the male database. Which obviously needs to be
done before any kind of public release.

Another thing that needs to be done is to add finishing moves like the
RKO, Attitude Adjustment, GTS, etc to the game. That way each
superstar will be able to perform his or her finisher before
attempting to pin the opponent. At the moment the game is restricted
to general moves which is ok, but it is much more fun if you are
playing say Randy Orton and can pull off an RKO for a quick stun and
pin.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] WWE Superslam

2011-09-04 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi John,

I'm not sure what you mean by action genre, but if you mean in real
time like the professional wrestling games I'm not really equipped to
write something like that. The key problem is that the professional
wrestling games you can buy for the Play Station and XBox are written
by commercial companies who can actually afford to higher the WWE
super stars to do cutscenes, higher real time commintators, and have
access to hundreds of wrestling sound effects I simply do not have
access too. Plus have no chance to finance something like that.

That is why I am writing it as a text-based game similar to the Dos
wrestling games back in the 1990's like Piledriver. Its accessible,
but does not require lots of sounds, music, or real time commintary.
However, unlike the Dos games of the 90's I eventually plan to add
some basic sounds, and I use the _getch() function which means if you
press a key you don't have to press enter to get it to accept the
keyboard command etc. Since it is being written for a screen reader
user I obviously have formatted the text and refresh the screen enough
that NVDA, Window-Eyes, etc can read the text fairly decently. Where
with something like Piledriver sometimes I notice it behaves a bit
funky with a screen reader.

Cheers!
