Re: [Audyssey] BGT preorders

2010-04-13 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Philip,
Hmmm..I did something similar when I took preorders for Montezuma's
Revenge which later became Mysteries of the Ancients. I tend to give
those who paid for the software higher priority than those users who
didn't pay and want to see feature x.
One thing I can say about pre-ordering a title is people with licenses
tend to debug and find problems faster than those who are casually
using the software in some sort of demo mode. The fact they are using
a demo usually means the are locked out of certain features etc and by
allowing them to license and test the beta while it is being developed
works both ways. Problems are found and corrected earlier and the
developer gets capital while working on the project.
The only thing I disagree with here is trying to set a cut off date. I
don't know about you, but I constantly set release dates only to find
I can't make themon time. Usually family issues, real work, whatever
gets in the way and I can't get to this or that right away. So I don't
let people know those private release dates publically as that might
cause more problems than it is worth.

Hi Will,

My main reason for accepting preorders is so that I can use some extra money
to develop the tool, hire the right people for the right jobs etc while
making sure I have enough left to pay people back if worse comes to worse.

Re: [Audyssey] BGT Preorders?

2010-03-26 Thread Willem

Hi dark.

What I am trying to say is that you need to understand a little bit of
theory and how a computer will see your code. Ultimately you are trying
to explain to the computer how you want it to represent your game, like
writing a good book or article there are rules and it is not simply a
case of getting the words in the right place.

I know, it sounds complicated, but it doesn't have to be. All you need
to do is learn a few rules.

Take return as an example, this tells the computer to "return" an object
like an integer or float. This is done because you can't change
non-public variables in a function, method or in an object. The reason
why this is done is based on a prinsipal of object orientated
programming called encapsulation. This basically means that calling a
function should only involve the function call and not medal with the
code inside the function.

After having some practice, you will find out what makes the engine
complain and more importantly understand why it happens. One thing you
should always keep in mind is that programming and computer science is a
wide and complex study field and it takes time to become better at it.

to function and what language to use, not complexity as such, because
there are functions, with nice english above them that does simple
things.

Re: [Audyssey] BGT Preorders?

2010-03-25 Thread dark
There are a couple of games on the bgt toolkit page at blastbay studios, but
personally I'd rather like some basic example code sections which do symple
things such as toss a coin or start with a total, add together some other
numbers and see if they total higher than the original.

As I said, right now it feels like the examples are translations of words in
a foreign language, and the games are like hole books, and i wouldn't mind
seeing a sentense, paragraph or two.

Beware the grue!

far to the list or, if anyone's interested in doing it that way, perhaps
having someone help me with it privately to at least make sure I'm on the
right track.

Vender: No pizza. Only Khlav Kalash.

Well philip, to be perfectly honest, whether I will be buying the toolkit
in either version will depend upon whether it's likely I can actually
create anything with it at all.

At the moment that is stil an open question, though I intend to keep
trying.

Beware the grue!

Hi gang,

With the positive reception that BGT has had, I am considering taking
preorders for the tool. How do you all feel about this, would you be
interested in preordering if the option was available?

Kind regards,

Philip Bennefall

Re: [Audyssey] BGT Preorders?

2010-03-25 Thread Bryan Peterson
I certainly would. Granted I'd only be able to get the Light version at
first but then later I could get the discount for Pro, which I do plan on
owning at some point.
