Re: [Audyssey] MOTA beta 17

2011-02-07 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi William,

That feature was added a long timeago, because people complained about
having to press enter to open statues and doors all the time. So I
added the feature so Angela would automatically open one if she was
cchlose enough to do it. All the same if it is locked its locked. It
will not open automatically or otherwise if it is locked.

Cheers!

Forgive me for asking the obvious, but is this with or without your

readers like Jaws messes with DirectX and locks up the program when
active in the background. So that's my reason for asking.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA beta 17

2011-02-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,

No, not necessarily. Usually, in the Tomb Raider games if you get
locked out of a room or something you can just walk back to the
correct pressure switch, lever, whatever the case might be and repush
it again. Then, run back to the door, statue, gate, etc and open it.
It is usually a case of being locked out rather than locked in.

In the few caseswhere a door or something locks behind you it is an
area of the level you never have to revisit anyway. So don't worry
about being locked in. I wouldn't do that, and most of the Tomb Raider
games never did that either.

Cheers!

Hi,

In deed. Not only that but I am working on timed locks in beta 18. Not
only will you have to react faster, but if you don't open certain
statues and doors with in a certain time limit they will relock. This
is a classic puzzle element of the Tomb Raider games that drives me
crazy, but lots of fun too.

Hi,

Yeah, enemies can miss. Just because a centaur shoots an arrow, a
skeleton takes a slash at your head, or a hharpy tries to claw you it
doesn't mean it will connect. Part of the reason for ducking,
jumping, etc is that some attacks will miss now and then.

Cheers!

Hi Daren,

You duck. There is a little bug with that I'm fixing as we speak, but
the basic answer is you duck and run away from the harpy. When you are
far enough away shoot and blow her away with whatever gun or weapon
you have handy.

Hi Muhammed,

If you are asking about 3d audio Mysteries of the Ancients currently
doesn't use 3d audio. Instead it uses standard 2d panning and volume.
I could add 3d audio support to the game, but I think that is overkill

Perhaps the enemy is too close. Sometimes if they are too close there
is no room to fire a gun, swing a sword, etc. Also some enemies,
primarily harpies, will fly over you and atack from above. What enemy
or enemies specifically are you having difficulty with.

Hi Daren,

Perhaps the enemy is too close. Sometimes if they are too close there
is no room to fire a gun, swing a sword, etc. Also some enemies,
primarily harpies, will fly over you and atack from above. What enemy
or enemies specifically are you having difficulty with.

Hi Daren,

You duck. There is a little bug with that I'm fixing as we speak, but
the basic answer is you duck and run away from the harpy. When you are
far enough away shoot and blow her away with whatever gun or weapon
you have handy.

Smile.

I think that would be a great idea. When 1.0 comes out, it would be cool to
see that go back in.

Hi Liam,

I'll consider it. No promises, but I'll consider lifting that restriction.
At least for the betas anyway. I can always put it back in for 1.0.

cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA beta 17

2011-02-01 Thread Charles Rivard
Another scenario: Thomas Ward takes Angela Carter's place in the tomb.
Game objective: Kill him as many times as possible, but do it slowly to
make the game last. He must cross quick sand pits using only his feet. The
lava in the pits has been replaced with battery acid, and he falls into the
pits while in the middle of a yawn. He carries dog food and dog treats in
all pockets, and a German Shepherd is after him. And so the adventure
continues.

Hi,
Games We'd Like to Play:
Blind Gamer's Revenge.
Recently, Thomas Ward has begun his impossible games series with such
titles
as the jump over Mount Everest, in which Angela Carter has to use a one
foot

rope to swing all the way over Mount Everest in One Try; he has also
included such nasty traps in MOTA as the vanishing floor, so that at the
very beginning you fall into Tartarus with no way of return. In this game,
we shall put Thomas Ward to the test; see if you can stop him from walking
from left to right across the level, by placing out monsters and traps--as
many as you like. Do you have what it takes to beat this evil gamer
mastermind? Lol...Couldn't resist.

Best Regards,
Hayden

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA beta 17

2011-02-01 Thread Liam Erven
What I'd really really like to see is the ability to save while in the beta.
I know this is a pay only feature, but last I could tell noone had reg keys
yet. It would really help in playing through the game as I've gotten pretty
far and have died and am really discouraged. I'd hate to get all the way to
level 2 and not be able to save.
If the demo is going to be a limitted level demo, you could still keep level
saving. Tom I really hope you consider this. It would be greatly
appreciated. Am enjoying the game, just not enjoying dying a lot. Laughs.

rope. By that point you will have a torch.

Hi Charles,

Good point. Not much good putting a potion right in room 1 if you don't have
a torch to find it. This does make the problem more complicated.

Cheers!

Hi,
Games We'd Like to Play:
Blind Gamer's Revenge.
Recently, Thomas Ward has begun his impossible games series with such titles
as the jump over Mount Everest, in which Angela Carter has to use a one foot
rope to swing all the way over Mount Everest in One Try; he has also
included such nasty traps in MOTA as the vanishing floor, so that at the
very beginning you fall into Tartarus with no way of return. In this game,
we shall put Thomas Ward to the test; see if you can stop him from walking
from left to right across the level, by placing out monsters and traps--as
many as you like. Do you have what it takes to beat this evil gamer
mastermind? Lol...Couldn't resist.

Best Regards,
Hayden

Hello,

I just finished playing through Mota 17 a couple of times. I am really
loving the new level, and I like how you have to do a lot of backtracking
and exploring to find out where to go. I like the new platforms and the
timing element they add. I hope to see even more complex levels and even
possibly multiple traps, or traps and enemies in the same room in higher
levels. For example, you could have to climb down a rope onto a vanishing
platform or a drawbridge you lowered earlier, or you could have to jump
between vanishing platforms, timing your jumps such that the new one has
appeared but the old hasn't yet disappeared.

I found a bug and a balancing issue. The bug is that stairs do not show up
in the view command, so it is hard to tell where they are sometimes.

The balancing issue is that it is possible to encounter a harpy without
finding a healing potion. I would recommend simply starting the player
with
one potion. I can hardly think that Angela would not come prepared. I
know

this has been brought up before, but I have another suggestion of how to
alert the player that they've been poisoned. The speech could simply say
something like "Health: fair. You are poisoned." This would be enough to
tell if you have been poisoned.

Hi Liam,

Not sure. In Tomb Raider they have medikits you pick up throughout the
levels rather than potions. Usually, they have a medikit somewhere near the
start position you can snag off a ledge or some other obscure place which
gives you a quick way to restore health when you need it.
Unfortunately, that kind of game doesn't use random items and monsters so
they can put those items where they want them. I suppose I can create an
extra potion bottle that isn't random that is laying nearby the start
position as a freeby. That seams to make the most sense to me.

Cheers!

the start position as a freeby. That seams to make the most sense to
me.

Cheers!

Not completely sure how it could be tied in, but a healing potion could be
right there or it could be some sort of story line blurb.

Well, that's tricky. I understand your point, but these healing potions are
magical items left in the temple. That's not exactly the kind of thing you

[Audyssey] MOTA beta 17

2011-02-01 Thread Karl Belanger

I would recommend simply starting the player with
one potion. I can hardly think that Angela would not come prepared. I know
this has been brought up before, but I have another suggestion of how to
alert the player that they've been poisoned. The speech could simply say
something like "Health: fair. You are poisoned." This would be enough to
tell if you have been poisoned.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA Beta 17 Released!

2011-02-01 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Petr,

At the moment the Linux version isn't being worked on. The most
current version for Linux is beta 16, and probably won't be updated
until I get access to the Linux source code. Unfortunately, the
computer that source code was stored on died early in December and
while I technically have the source code I currently can't get access
to it. Besides it is better that I focus on working on getting the
Windows release out since the number of Linux gamers verses Windows
gamers is quite small.
