Thanks Dark.

Hi.

I've had word from Sander, one of our loyal webmasters.

apparently audiogames.net site and forum has experienced a spam attack, but
will be back up and running soon.
REad the message from Sander himself, and indeed access the forum at a
temporary location at
http://audiogamesforum.creativehero.es/viewtopic.php?id=20345

Of course, nothing to panic about, everything is backed up, just an
inconvenience for everyone, and likely one who's cause is entirely innocuous or
automated too, so nothing to panic about.

All the best,

Dark.

Google translate also works, that's what I used...

It basically says that if you own this domain to contact them, so not
the most informative...

Re: [Audyssey] audiogames.net is down

2016-11-05 Thread dark

Hi Maurine.

the message you recieved about audiogames.net is in dutch, the native
language of Richard and Sander, and just effectively says "service
unavailable" or similar. So on the one hand, don't be worried that you've
suddenly been directed to a site full of viruses and spam, however on the
other, the problem does seem to be one which needs sorting with reference to
the site hosts.

Hopefully it's just a glitch and nothing too serious or malicious.

all the best,

Dark.

The language being used is dutch, so you could try finding someone
from the netherlands to translate it for you.

At 09:17 AM 11/5/2016, you wrote:

I don't understand what it was saying but the site is probably not available.
So it probably means the domain has expired.
That happens from time to time, as long as the admins over there

Devs here have forgot to renew from time to time and its probably no

Well more like a catalogue or a show room, the database has pages for games
which tell you about the games, and you can search by genre etc (use the
search games link on the front page), then there are links that show you to
the developer's own site and (hopefully), where to download the game, at
least so long as the developer themselves hasn't taken it down.

Hi Corey,

I'm not sure why there is such a delay, but it is important to note
that none of the games are actually stored on Audiogames.net's
servers. All links point back to the developer's site so any delay
would have to be between you and the developer rather than
Audiogames.net since Audiogames.net is just an index and not the host

Well more like a catalogue or a show room, the database has pages for games
which tell you about the games, and you can search by genre etc (use the
search games link on the front page), then there are links that show you to
the developer's own site and (hopefully), where to download the game, at
least so long as the developer themselves hasn't taken it down.

Hi Corey,

I'm not sure why there is such a delay, but it is important to note
that none of the games are actually stored on Audiogames.net's
servers. All links point back to the developer's site so any delay

I assume you mean the dropdown box on the front page that is a quick way to
get to games in the db?
I'm a trifle confused sinse the button for that box is now labeled "submit"
not "go" as it was ebefore the slight redesign.
I've just tested that dropdown box and the page loaded no problem, so if
that is the box you mean I'm afraid I'm slightly confused as to why.

Hi Emily.

You'd be very welcome. There are a lot of people developing games and trying
out different things on the forum, so it is a good place for news and
discussion, though if you prefer mailing lists and want to stick to audeasy
that is okay too, sinse most things that are released on the forum get
reported here fairly soon and visa versa given that there are people like
myself who are heavily involved with both.

Hmmm, that would be a pretty boring coaster indeed, :d.

While I've seen the odd niggle, I've not seen anything major and speaking as
someone who checks the forum a couple of times a day these seem
comparatively rare and are usually fixed within minutes, unless of course
there is something seriously wrong like a hacking attempt or whatever.

Hi,

I can't reach the audiogames.net website and the forum.
It still worked for me about two hours ago.
Is anyone else able to reach the site or does know what the problem might
be?

And just in case anyone feels like complaining because I'm sending this

Re: [Audyssey] Audiogames.net and forum down?

2014-10-06 Thread dark

Hmmm, I'm slightly confused where you got the idea i am a game developer.

Audiogames.net is a general forum and along with this list is the main place
on the internet for discussion of audio and other accessible games. We have
lots of developers posting examples of their work, from small practice games
to major things like paladin of the skies or park boss.

I am the Administrator of the forum and responsable for things like writing
site news, adding to the database etc, jobs which need doing sinse Richard
Vantol and Sander Huberts who are the webmasters of audiogames.net are busy
fellows.

I don't program games myself, it could be something I'll try in the future
but at the moment my major thing is writing for the site, contacting
developers etc.

Re: [Audyssey] audiogames.net

2014-08-11 Thread dark

Hi Nicol.

I've also noticed that problem myself with the search archive function. I've
forwarded your message to Sander so hopefully he can have a look at the
issue.

In the mean time however, if you use the Gamelist link, it will show all
the games in the database, and you can click on one of the headings to have
the gamessorted by a certain criteria, for example title or developer.

This isn't the same as the search archive function sinse if you sort the
games by developer the entire db will still be on the one page, but it does
at least mean that say all of 7-128's games are together.

hth, and hopefully the search archive will be working again soon.

All the best,

Dark.

Hi all
For the most part, audiogames.net is up and runnning again.
I can easily locate games in the database by using the combo box.
For example I select unseen alpha missions and click go and the page came
up

with the info about this game.
And clicking on the url link takes me to the developer's website.
But I am not able to use the search feature.
ON the page to search the database I selected 7128 software from the combo
box listing all the developers.
And I click the search button.
But it does not bring up the search results for 7128.com.
After selecting 7128 and clicking search, the next time I check the combo
box is reset to the first item which is aprone.
I tried this quite a number of times.
First selecting 7128 in the combo box and click search but the results for
7128 does not come up.
I tried both firefox 30 and internet explorer11.
Many thanks for any feedback.

I certainly wouldn't object to audeasy replicating news, sinse not only
would this mean more sources of game news and more people looking out for
new games and updates (the other news posters and I try my best but we're

 different way or style.

I certainly think some newbie introductions would be helpful. I had
considdered putting together some articles for the articles room on
audiogames.net with lists of correct links to db entries, but this would be

again something else to maintain and if say the download url for Shades of
doom changed it'd be something else to update as well and frankly working on

the db and news is already more than enough to keep me busy.

Therefore, some diversity in what audeasy did, particularly in the area of
being a launching point for new gamers as well as an alternative source of
 news owuld be great.

Re: [Audyssey] Audiogames.net down

2014-08-09 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

Well while I take the point about redundency, between Phil's fantastic games
list on Pcs and Applevis, there are already some quite adequate resources in
terms of letting people know what games are available aside from
audiogames.net, and bare in mind these days your probably talking aa good
500 or so games ((audiogames.net currently has 470 or so games in the db and
there are still many to add).

Given that you already have a lot on, I'm not therefore quite as certain
whether a full scale audeasy database would justify the massive amount of
time and trouble it would take to create, particularly sinse I can certainly
confirm audiogames.net is very regularly backed up and thus will be back
sooner or later, hopefully sooner, heck given that the site survived
the fire that happened at the gameaccessibility sig offices a few years ago
I don't think your getting rid of us quite that easily :D.

One suggestion I do have however and one thing audeasy could definitely do
would be some assistance with games news.

I remember that the audeasy magazines used to have a section detailing news
on what developments had been made game wise in the preceeding couple of
months. Even if we're not at the point of reviving the audeasy mag, a
quarterly roundup of game news anddevelopments on the audeasy site would be
a very helpful thing, especially if audiogames.net goes down, though iit'd
probably be nice to have anyway.

Another really useful function which an audeasy website could perform could
be to have some introduction to audeaiogames type faqs or articles, that
detail a list of important titles, where people should start, explain need
for headphones etc. As well as a general introduction, such faqs could also
cover historically important games, games for specific devices like Ios or
android, what games exist in genre x etc.

That sort of specific guideance would be a great service, and also a unique
thing not currently provided by audiogames.net or pcs or any of the other
sites.

Beware the grue!

2014-08-09 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take those under advisement as I
happen to agree with you those are some areas where we can improve
upon the site and help out newbies to the community etc. Definitely
far more helpful than just another database of games.

Plus since Audyssey was intended to be a news site it only follows we
should do more in the way of news rather than just handle it here on
list. We could easily post news to the site the way you do on the
Audiogames.net forum announcing latest releases and so on. I have for
lack of a better word been rather lazy about doing much with the site
since taking it over and I certainly could do more in the way of news.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Audiogames.net down

2014-08-09 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Ishan,

Well, offering games for download from Audyssey isn't practical not if
you wish to keep it available as a non-profit organization. there are
many reasons why your suggestion is simply impractical for us. The
first is that disc space for a site is not cheap. We have to pay for
every gig we use and storing a lot of games on server would be fairly
expensive. Second, we have to pay for the amount of bandwidth we use
as far as people downloading files and such. As a result the best and
least expensive thing we could do is offer a link to the game's site
or link to the server to download the file which would not require
drive space or bandwidth on our part. The problem with that is if a
certain game doesn't have a site or isn't already somewhere for
download we can't link to it. That's not to say we can't eventually
come up with a database similar to what Audiogames.net has with links
back to the original site or server hosting the game.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Audiogames.net down

2014-08-09 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

I certainly wouldn't object to audeasy replicating news, sinse not only
would this mean more sources of game news and more people looking out for
new games and updates (the other news posters and I try my best but we're
only human), but also there's always some advantage to seeing news told in a
different way or style.

All the best,

Dark.

Thomas is correct.

Just because audiogame.snet is currently down doesn't mean the games are
unavailable, they're all on the websites for the people hosting them,
audiogame.snet doesn't host any games besides those developed by the
audiogames.net staff themselves namely Richard and Sander, such as The Curb
game, Drive and Sudo san.

Hi Dark,

It actually does have one numerical issue.
If you go to your profile and click View all Dark's posts the post
retrieval page will never return.

I noticed this shortly after you got over the 1 post mark a while back.
Fortunately it's an edge case since I'm sure you're the only person who
has more than 1 posts, smile.

And the Swamp thread is currently at 9,992 posts, so we haven't hit the
1 mark yet.

2013-01-03 Thread john
I just registered, and subscribed to the specific topic. The
forum emailed me to say that a reply was posted, but I have to go
to the actual website to read the messages, which is what I'm
trying to avoid with the rss. I had also subscribed to the
specific topic rss, though like I said, I'm not actually
receiving every post.

Hi john.

to subscribe to a topic and get things E-mailed to you you do
indeed need to
be a member of the forum since things are mailed to the address
you

register with.

With the rss however, are you subscribing with the topic rss on
the
individual page of the topic or the main rss for the room of the
forum? the
main forum rss just tells you about recently posted topics I
think.

in general I'd just recommend the forum subscription option, or
better still

simply just being a member.

eware the grue!

Re: [Audyssey] audiogames.net forum/rss feed/keepingup-to-dateontopics

2013-01-02 Thread dark

Hi john.

to subscribe to a topic and get things E-mailed to you you do indeed need to
be a member of the forum since things are mailed to the address you
register with.

With the rss however, are you subscribing with the topic rss on the
individual page of the topic or the main rss for the room of the forum? the
main forum rss just tells you about recently posted topics I think.

in general I'd just recommend the forum subscription option, or better still
simply just being a member.

eware the grue!

I haven't noticed that option, do I have to register to use it?
As regards the rss, I am getting some of the messages, but many of them
aren't showing up. I had 15 this afternoon, and it would appear that at
least 75 were posted to the forum. I'm not sure if this is a setting on my
computer, or if I'm missing something though.

Hi John.

I've never used them myself but I thought the rss feeds were topic
specific,
so if you go to the swamp topic and add the rss there you should just!
get

messages about that topic.

alternatively, if you subscribe to the topic, ie, check the box at the
bottom of the page, the forum will mail you everytime there is a new
reply.

Hth.

all the best,

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been brought up before, but I'm wondering if there's any
way to keep up on a specific topic on audiogames.net without actually
going to the sight. I've tried the rss feed, and while I seem to be
getting messages, the vast majority of them don't show up in my mail
client. This unfortunately is making it rather hard for me to keep an eye
on updates to the swamp campaign creator, and I'd really like to find a
more stable way.

Thanks,
John.

funny, I logue in to the audiogames.net forum at least twice a day (often
more), and rarely if ever see that problem, indeed I can't remember the last
time I saw the site down that way.

could it be something to do with the fact that audiogames.net is likely
hosted on a machine in Holland, and this is some sort of lag to the us that
doesn't affect people in europe? or maybe it's a certain issue with your
isp's connections.

I really have no idea, I'm just guessing in the dark here.

Audiogames.net has this exact feature and I use it every day. Firstly
there is the link that narrows the list down to only the threads which
have changed since your last visit. Here is the actual link in case this
helps anyone.

http://forum.audiogames.net/search.php?action=show_new
Then once you spot the thread you're interested in, there is a link listed
just after the page numbers. It's labeled New Posts and the actual web
address will end in action=new so that you know you've got the right
one. Clicking that will take you directly to the first new post since the
last time you read that thread.

There are a few forums that have a
way of launching a thread with
focus on the first unread post, though off the top of my
head I don't
recall any of them being as accessible overall as
audiogames.net.
Swings and roundabouts really,, but just thought I'd let
Chris know
that the functionality he's after isn't unheard of.

Audiogames.net has this exact feature and I use it every day. Firstly there
is the link that narrows the list down to only the threads which have
changed since your last visit. Here is the actual link in case this helps
anyone.
http://forum.audiogames.net/search.php?action=show_new
Then once you spot the thread you're interested in, there is a link listed
just after the page numbers. It's labeled New Posts and the actual web
address will end in action=new so that you know you've got the right one.
Clicking that will take you directly to the first new post since the last
time you read that thread.

Hi Chris,

You don't necessarily have to read all 1,000 messages on a thread just
to get to the newest message/post. If you want to quickly get to the
bottom of a thread you can either use the h key to jump to headings,
or you can use control+end to get to the bottom of the page and use
shift+h to get to the top of the last post on a particular thread.
That's what I do and I can usually find the newest posts just by
working backwards rather than reading from the top down.

that's what i meant Chris.

Pun bb is the forum system which audiogames.net uses, but it's not unique,
project.aon uses it as well for an example.

Other systems have other capabilities obviously, but I'd agreee Pun bb is
probably the easiest to deal with.

Certainly it's the forum I have to turn off least amounts of rubbish in the
display settings for such as avatars, likes, signatures etc.

Re: [Audyssey] Audiogames.net suggestion

2010-12-05 Thread dark

HI lorry.

There is actually an rss feed for the news, though that will only report the
same news which is posted on site.

As to a podcast feed, - well there is this thing called time, I've heard
about it, but never actually found any myself ;D. I'm also unsure if Cx2,
Sander or richard have any way of recording podcasts, pluss I have no
facility with the sort of audio editing which would be necessary for
listener feedback.

As a general rule, I do also wonder if there would be enough stuff to
actually make a podcast, sinse obviously the amount of news we have is
dependent upon what's going on with games at the time.

Sometimes there's loads, especially around a big release like tdv, but at
others we can have a slow week and there not be anything for a fortnight or
so.

So while it's a nice idea, I'm not sure how practically possible it would be
to do.

beware the grue!

Re: [Audyssey] audiogames.net issues

2010-08-15 Thread dark
It is because unfortunately, whenever someone replies to a news topic it
gets bumped to the front of the main page.

This isn't a problem unless an old news topic sparks a good deal of
discussion, but either way, I'd recommend using the read more link to
get a list of the topics with most recent first.

Beware the grue!

Because they're actually forum posts. That's what happens in a forum when
someone replies to a topic.

Hi guys,

For those of you wondering what's going on with AudioGames.net: our site
is temporarily offline due to an attempted phishing attack by hackers.
Phishing is (Wikipedia) the criminally fraudulent process of attempting
to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit
card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic
communication. For safety reasons our host has temporarily blocked the
site.
We are looking into it but it may take some time since we want to be
thorough and make sure that we've done everything in our power to stop
this from happening again.

Best regards,

Richard Sander
