Hi Gary
I cannot duplicate this at all right now, I did have one game of Homer
and one game of Dungeons, all quit fine and returned to the main menu
successfully. Even quitting the program worked like a charm.

Hi Michael,

Well, off the top of my head I believe Self-Destruct and Teraformers
are both setup that way. Beyond that I can't really help as I
personally hate the movement in those games. They use a simplistic
method of up arrow for north, down arrow for south, left arrow for
west, and right arrow for east which is to blind user specific for
me. I like games that use standard conventions like in mainstream
games where the user can turn 360 degrees and move in any direction.

Hi Tom.

Just a miner correction, Terraformers doesn't actually use that system,
Terraformers is full first person similar to swap or shades, however you
cannot side step which makes movement a little clunky, though workable for
the puzzle type game terraformers is.

Operation Black square from Dragonaps has that sort of movement, as does
Airic the clerric, as a conscious effort to echo the top down perspective of
something like zelda, and of course Entombed uses it in Dungeons. Then there
are the arcade games like super deakout (and it's original), Great toy
robbery, super egghunt and so on, although there the movements are less tyle
based and a little more fluid.

Myself, this is how I've personally always got that sort of movement system,
a top down third person view in audio as opposed to the first person view
used by something like Swamp or shades of doom (or indeed terraformers). The
only problem I've noticed is that it's very difficult in this perspective to
actually give the player the ability to anticipate and learn there way
around enemy attacks, meaning that your either running away as soon as you
perceive an enemy, or just having a hear it, hit it fast sort of gameplay,
which is why games in this view never really held my attention despite the
design on many other aspects something like night of parasite has.

The only way I could see it working is some sort of enemy viewer letting you
know the distance and position of nearby enemies rather like the object view
in shades, and then sounds for specific attacks so that when you came upon a
given enemy who attacked you would know how to avoid them, eg, a sound for
ramming, a sound for shooting etc, though this would make the game feel
somewhat closer to playing chess or even playing a roguelike than a fast
action audio game.

in general I'm not really convinced this view is up to fast action, accept
of the very basic hear a sound and move towards or away style of gameplay
which games like super egghunt have, though as I've said, this is almost a
general problem of audio games, how to present the player with enough
information to require them to make snap judgements rather than basic
reactions, albeit games like swamp have included much of that.

2013-10-05 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

Thanks for the correction. I couldn't remember if Terraformers used
that movement system or not, but I do know I have generally found it
lacking in action games as you apparently have as well.

It is okay in certain games like Entombed where it really does not
depend on real time game play. In Entombed you move around in real
time, but when it comes to actual combat that is turned based which
works out rather well for that style of game. However, in other games
like Self-Destruct or Night of Parasite I just found that top-down
perspective a bit funky.

Of course, part of my complaint is the same one you yourself
addressed. Too many games fall into the hear it/hit it mentality that
gets pretty old after a while. I want more games where you have to
think about your attack more and have more ability to move around and
attack from different angles and positions.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Quick question on something.

2013-10-05 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

Well, really in genre terms I pick on this aspect in the top down games
because we haven't really seen much advances. Perilous hearts had the
complex enemy behaviour and different attack lengths, and I know this is
something we discussed a great deal for your own side scroller, heck, even
Q9 had minimal stratogy given that enemies like bears were better to take
out at a distance or by playing hit and run. Of course, the full first
person games like shades and swamp had their different enemy attacks and
styles, remember using proximity mines on gelatinous blobs or those
nasty gun happy mutant humans, heck, gtc even had dodging and countering
enemy fire as a major component of gameplay in a first person perspective,
and this is something games like Swamp, or indeed papasangre and the
Nightjar on the Iphone have taken to a hole new level (the somethin else
games are pretty much just! working around different forms of enemies in
first person).

For action games in the top down view however, it seems things hadn't
advanced half that far, principley because it is dam difficult to actually
gage where an enemy is or what it is doing before having to go into that
hammer buttons fast attack fest.

I'm fairly sure this could! be rectified, with advanced enemy viewing tools,
and with enemies actually attacking the player rather than just running into
him/her at random, but it's not something we've seen yet, though that's a
shame given how easy it is in the top down perspective to create complex
layouts to explore.

This is why I personally believe if any game will advance our audio
understanding of such a perspective it'll be The Airic games, since those
have probably the most successful attempts at labyrinths, albeit I'm not
convinced on fighting really having much complexity yet (a shame they took
out the spin attack from the demo and only gave you guards shooting at you
in the final area)..

All the best,

Dark.

Hi Michael,

As far as I am aware the hard level is basically shooting at enemies
from five directions instead of three. Otherwise the difficulty settings
are more or less identical. This is one area where I believe the games
fall short, and why they have little replay value beyond the first
couple of games.

I wondered that myself. A person only need give a spoiler warning if

warning. :D

Hey, I would like to know about the sport games from VIPGamesZone, are
they just online games or can you be disconnected from the internet to
still be able to play the games?
I am asking for a friend of mine that does not have internet access
where they live. Thanks!

Re: [Audyssey] Quick question on VIPGamesZone.

2012-02-08 Thread dark

Hi Michael.

all of Vip gameszone's games can be played against the computer at various
diffciulty levels, in fact when i first bought Galaxy ranger myself my
university It networked wouldn't let me connect to someone else's ip, so I
just had the computer to play on.

the same goes for all the sport games too, in fact it might even be more
correct to say that the games are offline games that happen to have the
capability to connect to another person over the net, than that they are
online exclusively.

Beware the grue!

Or do like what Philip does for Q9 and have it not play the actual ending

Hi,

Yeah, very nice in deed. Lol!

I can see it now. Handing my customers a bunch of cheat codes for
Mysteries of the Ancients. They use them to reach the final level, and
when they walk in Athena says something to the effect you cheated
and uses Zues's thunderbolt to blow you to pieces. Now, that would be
funny. I wonder how many winers and complainers would have something
nasty to say about that. Hahahaha!

Personally, I don't think you ripped his head off at all. You, as
so many other list members have tried and tried again to tell him,
that he should do a little of the work himself rather than send so
many questions about games being available, where he can get this
or that game, whether a game is blind friendly, what the cost of a
given game is, how a given game is played, and other similar
questions that can easily be answered by downloading a game and
reading the user's guide that comes with it, trying a game before
asking how to play it, and browsing the sites that contain lists of
games and where to get them. One extremely annoying type of post I
have seen is one that asks for cheats or how to solve a puzzle in a
game that someone doesn't even have yet. There is no sense in that.

If I remember right, this list was created for gamers to discuss
games that, whether by design or not, are playable by blind
people. If, and that is the key word, if, you get stuck at a
particular point in a game, and if?, you have tried to get beyond
that point and just can't seem to figure it out, and if?, you have
looked through the user's guide to no avail, then you should ask
list members for hints or help, but not before you have previously
taken such steps on! your! own!

Hi Michael,

Would you please stop asking questions like this on the list. It is
beginning to get very annoying, frustrating, and down right irritating
to read day after day. You should know by now if someone like
Audiogames.net says there is only a demo available then there is only
a demo available. Why do you consistently come back to the list
questioning everything and anything the website says?

I'm frankly sick and tired of it. Consider this your final warning.
Any more questions of this nature and you will be moderated
indefinitely. Do I make myself clear?

Re: [Audyssey] quick question on a demo I found.

2011-04-14 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Michael,

Contrary to what you believe I'm not singling you out. Yes, this is a
list for discussing games, but not everyone constantly bombards the
list with questions like the ones you have been asking. If I'm not
mistaken a few months ago you were the one asking if this game or that
game was the latest version. Now, you are asking how to get the full
version of games like Drive when all of that information is supplied
on Audiogames.net. I looked and found the information in about a
minute. So why can't you do the same?

My point is not that the questions are off topic, or that the
question/questions shouldn't be asked. It is that it is extremely
irritating to those of us who get hundreds of messages a day, have to
sort through it, only to find some guy once again asked a question
that could have been answered simply by looking at the website
directly. All I'm saying is that it is good list practice to look up
as much as possible before coming to the list with questions. That
goes for everyone not just you. That keeps traffic down, and helps
filter out some of the unnecessary posts/questions.

HTH

Re: [Audyssey] quick question on a demo I found.

2011-04-14 Thread Charles Rivard
Personally, I don't think you ripped his head off at all. You, as so many
other list members have tried and tried again to tell him, that he should do
a little of the work himself rather than send so many questions about games
being available, where he can get this or that game, whether a game is blind
friendly, what the cost of a given game is, how a given game is played, and
other similar questions that can easily be answered by downloading a game
and reading the user's guide that comes with it, trying a game before asking
how to play it, and browsing the sites that contain lists of games and where
to get them. One extremely annoying type of post I have seen is one that
asks for cheats or how to solve a puzzle in a game that someone doesn't even
have yet. There is no sense in that.

If I remember right, this list was created for gamers to discuss games that,
whether by design or not, are playable by blind people. If, and that is the
key word, if, you get stuck at a particular point in a game, and if?, you
have tried to get beyond that point and just can't seem to figure it out,
and if?, you have looked through the user's guide to no avail, then you
should ask list members for hints or help, but not before you have
previously taken such steps on! your! own!

Hi,

Well, I was expressing my feelings and opinion about the situation.
You are right I could have been less harsh about it, but I personally
find Michael extremely irritating. I've never found anyone who can
rub me the wrong way just like he does. Perhaps one of us needs to
leave the list, because as a moderator I shouldn't attack other
listers as I did, but at the same time as a lister I can't stand the
guy. He just rubs me the wrong way.

However, you did make me realise one thing. Given the fact that I'm
more likely to lose my temper with Michael, not react as a moderator
should, when it comes to Michael I'll let Raul or Kevin deal with him
from now on. At least then he will have an objective moderator were I
can honestly say I'm not always objective when he is concerned. Sorry,
Michael, for ripping your head off a moment ago. From now on I'm going
to block your messages from my personal inbox and the problem is
solved.

Cheers!

2011-04-14 Thread Charles Rivard
The point you fail to recognize is this: Other people put out a message
about where to find a game, or if there is a full version rather than just a
demo, too. However, you have put out countless such messages after it has
been suggested to you on numerous occasions to find out for yourself,
because the answer is right in front of you if you will only look! I will
tell you this much: I have chimed in on this thread only because I read one
of Thomas Ward's responses to yet another of this very kind of question. I
don't even read your messages to the list because I get hundreds of Emails
every day, and I already know that yours are going to most likely be of the
same prediscussed nature. Why isn't there a full version of this game?
Where can I get this game? Is this game playable by a blind person?
Are there any cheats for this game? I haven't gotten it yet, but it might
be fun. How do you play it? All of these questions, Michael, on such an
annoyingly regular basis, are needless, and people get downright tired of
them and disgusted by them.

Hey, Thomas.
Sometimes when I look stuff up I don't get the answers I'm looking for.
That is why I will come to the list to ask these kind of question.

Sorry if I do this but I thought this is where I can get the answers.
What about people on here that do the same thing. It's OK for one but not

So before you point at me look at yourselve. I thought this was a list

Re: [Audyssey] quick question on a demo I found.

2011-04-14 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,

Thank you. That's exactly what I was trying to say when I lost my
temper. Your responce was much more to the point, clear, and better
explained than my own. The reason I lost my temper with Michael is no
matter how many times we ask him to do a little research, find out the
answers to his questions when it is often planely discussed on the
parent website, he comes right back and asks the question on list.
Once and a while I could over look, but every day of the week gets to
be, well, irritating and annoying. Especially, since Michael's soul
purpose on this list is to ask questions like where to I get game x,
how do I play game x, is it the latest version of game x, is this the
demo or full version of game x, etc. He is like a broken record. Over
time it just gets on my nerves, because it is totally unnecessary.
Most, if not all, of those questions can be found out by reading the
website, downloading and trying the game, reading the game's user
documentation, etc. Yes, this list is here to help, but a little
personal initiative to find some of this information out on his own
would be nicer than flooding my inbox with a daily stream of those
kinds of questions.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] quick question on a demo I found.

2011-04-14 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,

I would agree that would be the ideal lister but the world isn't
perfect nor are people. One very common flaw is a lot of people are
just too lazy to look things up. I often get questions on how do I do
this or that in MOTA. I ask have they read the manual where the answer
is and they reply they haven't. As a developer I find that kind of
question both lazy and a tad bit insulting as I spent a good handful
of days writing that manual, and the person didn't even bother looking
at it before posting a question. That kind of question just pushes my
buttons, and frankly makes me angry. Which is why Michael's post set
me off earlier because I went, looked around, and found out the
information just by spending a little time looking for the answer
rather than taking the lazy way out and sending a post.

funny. I wonder how many winers and complainers would have something
nasty to say about that. Hahahaha!

There was also a cheat mode, but you could only cheat 3 times, and if
you tried to cheat a 4th time, you'd get teleported into a room with
no exits, and then the troll would appear and chop off your head. Haha!
There was also a room with a quote kindly old gentalman unquote who

Hi Michael,
When super dog bone hunt was developed there was no choice but to call it a
demo as that word was put on the screen by the engine and not the game
script.
I think David thought of the GMA game engine for developing only
commercial games not free games.
If I ever do an update I will be sure to try and remove the demo status.

Re: [Audyssey] quick question

2008-02-18 Thread Cara Quinn
I've gotten him royally several times!… lol! And it's a right bit
of fun too!… smile

   One good strategy to try is this;

POSSIBLE S P O I L E R S P A C E

If you can, by at least one of each color property you land on,
this way, even if you can't buy all three and build on them, you
prevent the other player from doing same.

Also, once you do have at least one group of properties you can
build on, stay within your budget but make sure to get started
building ASAP. In other words, if you can reasonably afford a house
on each, then put one there quickly. If you can only afford a house
on one or two, then do that too. The point is to get some good
revenue coming in as quickly as you can. Each payment you get from
the other player, is less ability they have to build and therefore,
less ability they have to charge you rent.

Hope this helps.

Have an awesome evening!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

Re: [Audyssey] quick question

2008-02-17 Thread Dark
to be honest the computer is an idiot, sinse he buys up everything when he
doesn't have the cash.

Generally when I play, I own a few properties, which are all built up with
hotels etc, and the computer owns three quarters of the board, but can't
collect rent on them because they're all morgaged to the bank, and the game
just turns into waiting for the computer to slip up on my properties enough
times, which can be a really long process (I've never actually finished
a game this way).

When we play monopoly, when a property is morgaged, it then goes back to a
free square that anyone can buy, thus the successfull player really does get
to own more of the board, and the game is over more quickly.

I very much would like to see that rule available as an option in the game
in future, sinse imho it would imrpvoe things a lot, - especially with
the computer's crazy habbit of buying everything in site and bankrupting
himself.

beware the Grue!

Dark.

 Hi all,
First of all this question isn't entirely off topic. It actually has to
do with some of the voices Phil used in the Sarah game. I seem to remember
him saying a while back that he used some of the Loquendo voices for some
of the statues and suits of armor found throughout the castle. I was
wondering, Phil, where you got them and how much they tend to cost? I've
looked on the Loquendo web site and they don't seem to have any
information about pricing. I'm curious because not only would they make
great screen reader voices, but if I start developing my own games I might
very well choose to use some of the Loquendo voices myself. They seem by
far to be the most versatile synthetic voices out there seeing as you can
actually make them express different emotions. I've never heard a synthe
laugh so convincingly {smile}. But to avoid cluttering up the list with
what some wil doubtless consider off topic traffic, write me off list if
you can, anybody. I'd appreciate any insight into this matter.

 Hi Chris,
Technically, you can't beat the warband if you haven't got heaps of
armour and good weapons to fight them. The enchanted dagger is not that
good a weapon to begin with.
What I would do is flee the fight or hide.
