SCSI-CDROMS working? I use ide-scsi for both of my ide-cdroms, and they
normally show up in /dev/cdroms...

could verify this using lsof | grep TCP, which lists all ports on your

a startx. Perhaps
you have to append the window manager you used in gdm if it is not the
default window manager. But you might see why your wm isn't working any
more, as it should give you an error message on the console if x terminates.

Can someone tell me how to use a user defined .xinit/.xsession when
using gdm?
I'm trying fluxbox at the moment, and it depends on xinit/xsession to
start additional programs.
So how can I persuade gdm to include scripts from the homedir while
starting up fluxbox?

Why does this happen for you? Surely if you have /tmp mounted when you
untar the install stage you use, it will get the correct permissions?
Not that I'm aware of. IIRC I have mounted all partitions prior to
unpacking the stage-tarball.

Sounds like you don't have ffmpeg installed or possibly the wrong version.
You need a 0.4.6
to reemerge arts (which is and was installed here), did an
ldconfig and an env-update, no success. The rest of my system is
up to date, /etc/ld.so.conf contains the correct '/usr/kde/3.1/lib'
entry. Why does transcode look in '/usr/kde/3/lib'?
