[Gimp-developer] How to create a ZOOM tool
Hi, I'm developing a zoom tool for a Paint activity for OLPC. The activity uses only PyGTK for Image manipulation. I'm looking for an algorithm to implement the zoom tool. Can you help me sending information or where I can get it. Short answer: No. Long answer: You could implement a user interface that makes use of transparency like this but it would only work on a very small subset of the operating systems and hardware that we support currently. Perhaps if you waited another five years, it could be considered. Still this kind of user interface would need support from the toolkit. I don't think it can be written on top of what is available in GTK+ now. > In the second there is transparency, but the idea is to have more > space when selecting an item. Can a hide-unhide vertical menu be > implemented for the tools using GTK? Pretty much anything can be done. Someone just needs to write the code for it. The user interface you are suggesting is interesting and it might be a good idea to explore these ideas further, to code a prototype and to aim for inclusion in GTK+. If GTK+ provided this functionality, I am sure a lot of apps would start using it. GIMP is usually among the first applications to adopt new widgets. So there's a good chance that this would happen here as well. Sven ___ Gimp-developer mailing list Gimp-developer@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-developer

I started looking into it and here is what I've run into so far: 1. Old method of creating menus (/Video/submenu/another_submenu/) is used. 2. As result of the above, I've translated all translatable instances of "/Video/", but I still see name of the top level menu "/Video/" in English (would be neat having a mnemonic key for Video, btw). 3. I also see actually translated menu items (e.g. "/Video/Layer/Colors/Levels...") in English after replacing /usr/share/locale/ru/LC_MESSAGES/gimp20-gap.mo with a new one and restarting GIMP. Updating translations while having this kind of issues is not much fun :( 4. "Script-Fu" menu is created by "Selection to AnimImage". 5. Dialogs still show "Help" button even if it's disabled in GIMP's preferences. But I suggest some changes: 1) there's too much wasted space on the top. this is the place that users see first, and currently it's a green bg. The dark menu should be on top. 2) the text should be text, not images. This font looks nice, but it seems not common. I haven't read the html, but it shouldn't be implemented as images just to use that font. This allows for users to change size and even the font (from useit). 3) there's 2 menus that look similar. it's better to have just one or make two menus with clearly different purposes. 4) -minor- there's 3 green bgs. Why not use an image bg and a solid color bg? 5) -minor- the dark menu could be horizontal (placed on top of the website). also there's no need to label it "menu". the blueish color may be used as a hover effect. 6) there's no graphics, at minimum place a logo that links to the /index.html (from useit, in /index.html it shouldn't be a link) and -optional- some screenshots. ___ Gimp-developer mailing list Gimp-developer@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-developer

Here is not the place to discuss the web-site. And perhaps it would be a good idea to wait until the new site has gone online. Currently people are working hard on preparing everything for the GIMP 2.4 release and they are likely not going to have time to consider yet another web-site layout. Re: [Gimp-developer] GAP
Hi, the problems you outlined can't be solved for the GAP 2.2.2 release. This release is bug-fixes only and it is supposed to run with GIMP 2.2 and GIMP 2.4. So it can't use any new features from the GIMP 2.4 API. If you want to make sure that the user experience with GAP 2.4 will be better, then you should help Wolfgang by reporting problems and by fixing them. He is likely going to do a GAP 2.4 release later this year. Sven ___ Gimp-developer mailing list Gimp-developer@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-developer
