Use a tarball then. If you are building GIMP from CVS you are a hacker
and you need the tools that are required to build GIMP including the
developer documentation.

i am attempting to build gimp from cvs. updating and typing "make"
failed with the following error message:
./configure: line 33395: syntax error near unexpected token `1.0'
