Kbabel is pretty much discontinued - the new Qt based translator is
called "lokalize" and works just fine for me.

Willer - as the maintainer of the pt_BR translation of GIMP interface
I'd be glad if you would communicate with me along your work on the
GIMP manual .

Also, having the software to help translating PO files i not
everything there is about it - feel free to ask around (this list)
until get comfortable with the process.

I think you shuld start by showing how to turn them completly off -
them showing how painting with no dynamics behave.

Then activate 1 mapping at time, with a new dynamics mapping, and
show the effects (up to about 3 or 4 mappings)

Then document the existing pre-sets, or some of them (although the
video might not contian all of them - the manual should)

Please, bear in mind this is a voluntary project - so while the object
information
you had as feedback is valuable, meaning "the tutorial on gimp.org is
so old as to
be unusable" is valuable, the way you write it will only resent people

Re: [Gimp-docs] Catalan translations, some questions

2013-12-09 Thread Joao S. O. Bueno
Hi Konfrare -

From the answer given, Roman assumed you have cloned the git-repository
for gimp-help-2 --

although given the nature of your questions, I believe you are updating
the translation using the "danmed lies" gnome l10n infraestructure,
which allows for downoading/translating/uploading the PO files
without actually having a tree checkout of the project.

If that is the case, please follow the instructions to clone the repository
at

https://wiki.gnome.org/Git/Developers
And the translator specific hints at:

https://wiki.gnome.org/TranslationProject/GitHowTo

That said, if you can get things to build you not necessarily need
commit rights - you can create the images in your filesystem, and make
a zipfile or tar.gzip, and upload to gnome l10n - the same place where
you upload your po files to - with instructions for the translation
team on how to put it on the correct folders in gimp-help-2 for
comitting.

[Gimp-docs] Translation helper

2014-01-04 Thread Joao S. O. Bueno
Hi there -

for whoever translates the manual using a PO editing tool,
the XML tags that often appear inside the translation strings
are not nice to deal with - as the tags have to be copied verbatim,
still, their content has to be translated.

Since the tool I am using for this allows for plug-ins,
I created one I can bind to a short cut key
and simplifies this work a lot.

I am using "lokalize" as the tool - if anyone is using poedit for the
GIMP manual,
I'd suggest giving lokalize a try just due to this script - it is really
helping a lot.

Unfortunately, the cross-platform tool "POedit" does not allow for plug-ins.

My script is here: https://github.com/jsbueno/lokalize_xmltools

[Gimp-docs] Notes while translating the manual

2014-01-04 Thread Joao S. O. Bueno
Hi there -

As you know, I am coordinating the translation for PT_BR
(we have most files already, but the gnome.org pt_BR team
wants they to have a final review before comiting to git)

For the files I am translating personally (as for the ones I will
review), I am taking notes of outdated areas, and other
inconsistencies. I hope we can deal with them properly later.

An inconsistency a "little bigger" , thought, came by today -
there is a file on Quickmasks on the "dialogs"
section of the manual...it explains a lot about quickmasks and their usage
(duplicating information there is elsewhere) - but there is no dialog
involved at all. (but for the channel attributes
dialog that can be used to change the color and opacity).

Does it belong there?
( src/dialogs/qmask.xml )

Re: [Gimp-docs] [Gimp-developer] Gimp Manual Roadmap proposal

2014-02-07 Thread Joao S. O. Bueno
Hi Roman -
when you talk about a "3.0" manual version in "3.0" - I am with the
impression that the
purposed changes would take place before GIMP 3.0 itself (as the next version
shall be 2.10)

So - it looks like the purposed version numbering would dissociate the
manual version from GIMP's version - is that so? I think that might
be confusing - although on a second thought it could be
a manageable confusion, if it is clearly specified, inv arious places, that,
for example, gimp-help-2 "3.0" refers to "gimp-2.10" .

(As for the idea of going github I am of the same opinion as Jehan.
We could put a mirror ("fork" in github parlor) there - but the
authoritative repository
should, by the reasons listed and maybe some more,
be kept in the gnome infrastructure).

Re: [Gimp-docs] Gimp Manual Roadmap proposal

2014-03-13 Thread Joao S. O. Bueno
So - while we don't make a major decision about the roadmap (hello LGM
:-) ), or have a branch to work on changes for GIMP -2.10 - do we
have at least a wiki page where we can take notes of things that
should go into the manual?

(I'd be for creating a "2.10" branch and start editing the XML english
SRC there - there will be quite a lot of news for this release, and it
would be said to have to wait over an year for the manual to catch-up
when it is out).

I remebered this e-mail thread because I added some changes to the
"align" tool yesterday, which would make for 1 or 2 paragraphs in the
manual - but also, now, looking at the logs I saw just this:

"""
commit dd648b1c1264a70ade137276293e827b40954eca
Author: Michael Natterer
Date: Sun May 19 22:21:38 2013 +0200

...skipping...
Don't allow tool operations on invisible items, just like we do for
group layers or locked items.

Cleaned up and enhanced the patch a bit --Mitch
"""
Which means: trying to paint in an invisible, active, layer works up
to GIMP 2.8, but is a NOp in
GIMP Master.
It is there for over an year, and I had not taken note - yet, it
should be mentioned in the manual, as
it is in some aspects a big change in the way GIMP used to work. (And
I see no drawbacks in it)

No reply for this, while tens of smallish features are getting added to GIMP 2.9

I've justed commited docs for one such small change as commented-out

Re: [Gimp-docs] Installing GIMP-GAP on Mac OS X Instructions

2014-12-09 Thread Joao S. O. Bueno
Yes - such instructions would be welcome -
please keep in mind that your blog, as a "fixed address" in the internet is more
important than an e-mail post to any of the GIMP lists (although these
are mirrored on the Web). Today there is no personal to update the
GIMP Web site with official or unofficial hints and "install guides"
like this.

Please, when you post, send the e-mail to the "GIMP-users" list as
well - as that way the article will probably reach a larger audience.

[Gimp-docs] Broken Links on the pt_BR version of the manual

2015-02-14 Thread Joao S. O. Bueno
Hi -

there are some broken links on the online version of the manual.

I just noticed that http://docs.gimp.org/pt_BR/gimp-tool-clone.html -
for example,
yields a 404 error.

I double-checked, and the page is generated, with a correct content,
in the local copy.

Could someone check what is going on? Maybe it i justa matter of
regenerating the online copy.

regards,

Re: [Gimp-docs] 'make pdf' fails

2015-12-10 Thread Joao S. O. Bueno
I managed to get the stack to genreate ODF's (Open Docuement Files) to
work during last year - in an old install - and it was quite some work
on a fedora system. Not sure if I'd still be able to do it on my new system.
At the end of the process I had to manually open (unzip and edit the
xml) the generated file to fix something
(character encoding related)

I think PDF's are easier to get by - not sure if it would work
out-of-the box here as well.

Re: [Gimp-docs] gimp-help-2-8 branch created

Ok.

Any more talks on moving on with the transition from docbook to some
other markup?

Re: [Gimp-docs] Help Needed for Documentation Writing?

2017-10-25 Thread Joao S. O. Bueno
this thread reminded me of how when translating the pt_BR version,
back in 2014, I was able to produce an .ODF version of the manual by
hammering some of the requisites in place.

The docbook->ODT path uses some ancient and arcane scripts I had to
hunt around the web like it was the 90's.

Maybe, while you are around you could also try to get that working and
fix (or document) it?
