See - I have this digit animated brush - just a set of 0 to 9 numbers in some pretty font, sprayed in random order. The brush size is just one, but depending on the desired effect, and the image size I am working on (for online viewing or for printing), I need a different size of the brush. With the current features opf the GIMP I need to make a new version of the brush for each size I wish to use it. There is a feature request in bugzilla about a Curves UI to control various brush variables - I hope we can implement that someday. [Gimp-user] automatical white balance
Hi all, can anyone explain how the automatical white balance works? - I can not find anything about it in the documentation. It can be found at the menu in Layers-Colours-Auto-White Balance. I'm not sure if this are exactly the right words because I use the german version. How does this feature know which pixel should be white? - I expected something like the manual white balance in digital cameras: Pointing and selecting an area which should be white, the rest of the picture will be changed accordingly. We can understand the question if we imagine that some user still use Photoshop. Alexandre is right to say that in in Free DTP Software process, Gimp don't need mark out of gamut colors. It is the same for Color management. But in Adobe's process, all these steps are taken in charge by Photoshop. So if you use GIMP+InDesign, you miss this functionnality somewhere. I'd like to understand it better too, if someone has an actual explanation or links to documentation, please post (I searched a bit for gimp white balance ... not much in terms of explanation)). I think the auto white balance is the same thing as Tools - Color Tools - Levels, then select auto, but you have flexibility with the levels tool. It looks like the auto leveling just sets each color such that they are evenly distributed, by setting dark and light tones (that is what the help menu calls them) such that they are at the low and high range of where each color shows up. Just play with it some and you can see what I mean ... Read this for a good explanation on using the level tool: http://world.std.com/~mmcirvin/gimp_tutorial/levels_curves.html Try auto leveling, and then look and play with the setting for each of the three *color* channels (i.e. not the default Value channel, auto does not modify it). I'll often adjust the values towards their original values in order to get more accurate colors. This must be similar to in-camera auto white balance. And even the in-camera auto white balance is sometimes wrong (and probably why you are trying to fix this in gimp ... or maybe you picked sunny white blance, and forgot to switch when moving indoors under incandescent light). [Gimp-user] change ruler from pixels to inches, but not in gimprc
GIMP Users I'm frustrated - I would think there's a way. I'm trying to change the ruler in the image window from pixels to inches. However, I prefer not to change the file, gimprc, since sometimes I use pixels and sometimes I use inches. I clicked everywhere in the image window (file, edt, select, view, etc + sub-options) and I can't find the place to change the unit. Is it there somewhere or must I change it in gimprc? Look to your image window, there is a area at the bottom of the window where you can change the zoom level by a drop-down menu.
