[Gimp-user] Gimp SLOW!!!

2002-10-10 Thread Gracia M. Littauer

I am trying to learn Gimp ver 1.2.3 (know PhotoShop enough to get around
use levels, curves layers). When I tried to use any feature; size,
levels, curves with a 7 meg negative scan turned into a 7 X 4.688
picture, it was SLOW, I mean UNACEPTABLEY slow! Reminds me of the old
days.

I hava very fast AMD 1/2 gig mem big swap space am using SuSE pro
8 OS. Normal for Gimp? soon to be fixed? continue to use PhS in windoz?

I don't even know how to look up this question in the manual (or ask it
there). I want to put 3 pix in 1 file (canvas). Basically to save paper
when I have some small pix to print

Simple in Photoshop...create a new empty file, click on picture drag
into empty 'file' (canvas?), repeat til all are in arranged. Since
they are layers in PS, I tried every way I could to do the same thing
in gimp. I can get the pix in using 'fileopen in layer'. BUT they are
on top of each other I can't find a way to move the pix to arrange
them.

I have tried printing from gimp to my

 a significant amount.

I also had rotton results:
I use SuSE 10
epson color stylus 3000
gimp 2.2.7
I forgot what driver (hsn't been installed in over a yr), but it was the
latest gimp one. I switched printer VERY quickly to my win laptop in
frustration. I use my card readers old cards to transfer files that
need GOOD color...photos, posters booklets etc, a read PITA.

I would love the not have to move files back forth.

[Gimp-user] can't add dir to Bookmark

2006-03-04 Thread Gracia M. Littauer
Linux SuSE 10

I don't pay attention to most of the complaints so this may have been
done to death, but I just upgraded to 2.2.7.

1) seems the opening screen is not complete, just a plain bronze square,
but when I asked for help/about for version, only about 1/3 appeared
there was some graphic in center.

3) when it dawned on me I could add a dir I go to often (duh), I tried
to add (+) and got this:

'Could not add a bookmark
Bookmark saving failed: Could not change file mode: waitpid() failed: No
child processes'.

This leads me to the thought that I am missing some files (or don't know
what the hell the dir/file retrieval system all about???)

Thanks. After picking though the replies I have received, I found the
diamond in the dross. I deleted rawphoto (can't be there if ufraw is
there), kept dcraw in usr/bin...needed for other viewer programs
installed ufcraw from SuSE 10.1 DVD in opt/gnome/lib/gimp/2.2/plug-ins.

Now wasn't that just the easiest!

You're right, as I also said, it a very nice plugin...does the job very
well with ease. Installing it was also easy...ah hem ;^).

doesn't your email client have an option to send messages in

Re: [Gimp-user] not to knock gimp...I love it, BUT I have never has decent prints from it

2009-04-03 Thread Gracia M. Littauer
On Friday 03 April 2009 09:55:34 Helen wrote

Actually, you didn't say you use linux, so it was a reasonable
 question.

I did say I used Linux, in a rather convoluted way, I will admit.

 I use
only linux, and get prints that are shown and sometimes are sold in
 art galleries.

BUT YOU PRINT FROM OO not gimp have complained to me often about gimp
printing.

The question I asked or thought I asked was about printing from GIMP in
linux. I only have a problem with gimp as do you and quite a few others
as I noticed from the thread.

I admit I have an old (but great) wide epson stylus 3000 printer and
have found some help from Krawitz, the gutenprint head honcho, on
upping the color density so my prints from OO (in linux) are OK, but
not as great as from PhotoShop on my windows laptop.

So my question still stands...do people find printing FROM gimp in Linux
bad? for those who think I'm a troll or haven't tested...I'm a rather
attractive tall old broad have used CUPS, gutenprint 5.

Never occured to me to DL gimp to window machine try printing. Seemed
conter productive since I'd have to move photo from one machine to the
other. I do almost all my work on Linux box...just keep windows laptop
for the few things that haven't migrared to linux.
