[Gimp-user] Text tool not working

I am trying to use the text tool and nothing is happening except it is freezing gimp up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Looked up youtube to make sure I was doing it right. I even made just a single layer test image and nothing. I click on the text icon or from the menu and click where I want

Please revert to previous setup. I've used gimp since 07 or earlier. The new text tool seems less useful. The old one was fine. The new one doesnt seem to add anything that couldnt be done before. Downloading an old copy of the gimp. ___
