Quickest way is to right click on the layer and choose Add Layer Mask.
From there choose Transfer layer's alpha channel. Then select the
newly created mask and do Invert from the Colors menu. You can then
apply the mask if you want.

2013-07-13 Thread Partha Bagchi
Frank,

When you start Gimp, you don't see a menu item called Filters? If not, your
installation is defective. Also, if you don't see heal selection, you
don't have python installed in your Gimp installation.

Hope this helps.

[Gimp-user] Gimp 2.8.6 Windows - Queries new Plug-ins at every startup

2013-07-13 Thread batman42ca
I just started using GIMP. I like it so far but this query of plugins at startup
bug takes about 2 minutes every single time I start up GIMP. I hope there is a
fix for it soon.

I'm running Widows XP with GIMP 2.8.6

[Gimp-user] Gimp doesn't respond to mouse in image area, at all

2013-07-13 Thread ArRaf
Hello. Some time ago, the Gimp stopped responding to my mouse in the
image
window. In other windows and on menus the mouse works fine (ie I can
select
brushes and such and use the interface without problems), but in the
image
window (or more precicely, the canvas area) it's as if the mouse
doesn't
even
exist. All kinds of clicks are ignored, the rulers doesn't show the
position
of the cursor, and the position in the lower left also isn't updated
(it is
set once upon entering the window, but after that it's dead). My
tablet
still works fine, but not being able to use the mouse for anything is
somewhat annoying.

This originally happened out of the blue one day while using Gimp
2.2.11
(I unfortunately have no idea what caused this to happen). I tried
upgrading
to 2.2.12 and then 2.3.13, without success. I also deleted the
~/.gimp*
directory in the hope that regenerating the config would fix the
problem,
but
no. No matter what I do, I can't make the Gimp recognize the mouse in
the
image window. The mouse isn't anything special, and it used to work
with
the
exact same X config I've got now. I haven't changed the xorg.conf
file in
several months. The Gimp is the only application with this problem.

This is on a dual-core amd64 processor in 64-bit mode (haven't tried
32-bit),
Linux kernel 2.6.18, Xorg 7.1.

Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to fix it ?

Thanks,
~ Gerry

I have the same problem, can anyone help? If there are bug fixes, please can
anyone give me the link?

[Gimp-user] Image Area doesn't respond to mouse.

2013-07-13 Thread ArRaf
Help me.
I am new at GIMP and installed the 2.8 today.
After I run it and create new, I can click on the tools, layer windows, and the
pattern and gradients normally(Like how I saw in online videos),
but I can't click on the image/canvas area in the main window.
I can click on the menu bar at the main window, but not the image.
I have tried all tools, but alas it doesn't affect the image.
...and it seems the cursor location at the lower left corner isn't updated.

[Gimp-user] Clone tool not working

2013-07-13 Thread Sanjib Sikder
Hi,

I am using GIMP 2.8.2 on Ubuntu 12.10.
The clone tool seems broken. It can not recognize the CTRL+left click. I
have tried with setting different key, which also does not work.

It always says Ctrl-click to set a new clone source

Doing that says set a source image first

How do I solve it ?

I have searched Google for a solution for long time and have seen that few
other users also faced the similar issue several times. But I cud not find
a solution which worked for me .

Thanks

Reminds me of when tablets aren't recognized, though i've never heard of

Try opening edit-input devices and check if core pointer can be found

if you're using a tablet, there should be other entries in the menu as
well, representing different parts of the tablet (stylus, eraser,
buttons, etc. ; though they may not be labeled as obviously). Try
setting the one for the stylus to screen.
Also, make sure you have used your tablet before starting gimp (for
example by using the stylus to launch gimp), or else it won't get
recognized by the program.

Ok, I've set them to screen, and I have restarted the program. The result is
still the same, still no respond from any kind of tools. Also, the cursor
location updates started messing up, and the cursor is blinking or some sort.
Retried this a few times, still showing the same result

No that does not work.

In the 'Keyboard shorcut' menu, I can see shortcuts, for example, copy, cut
etc, where Control key is written as CTRL but in case of clone tool, the
default key is C. It does not accept at at all neither CTRL nor LEFT CLICK,
while trying to reset.

Presseing C activates the clone tool but the error is as I have reported in

Thanks.
