what does 'unable to seek to tile location on disk: 22' mean ?
i assume it's to do with having reached tile cache limits ?
preference settings are
tile cache 258mg
temp dir is /home/sam/.gimp-1.2tmp
swap dir/home/sam/.gimp-1.2
is there any way to optimise this ?

No. It could mean that you are running out of disk space or that you
hit a bug in gimp-1.2. What version are you using?

called I can't find any basic instruction on how to use it with the gimp.
Is there a really simple starter documented somewhere that doesn't
immediately wander off into the Windows PhotoShop version of the plugin

my gimp version : gimp1_3-1.3.16-3mdk
perhaps a mis-understanding from using that tool :
when trying to move whith clicking one of the two black arrows :
it appear a new third arrow
this new arrow desappear when go and return to desktop.

some fonts are not filled with an solid color, but have regular
gradient patterns instead. (I could send a screenshot to the list, but
maybe this problem is already known). These fonts are: Charter,
Helvetica, Lucida, New Century Schoolbook etc. whereas other fonts
like the BitStream-font
