If I remember correctly, a 3215 is 132 character print which is why messages
are wrapping. I'm guessing that 3270 mode does not print some message
attributes but in 3215 mode enables them because of the free space. Issue
Jon Perryman kindly offered more thoughts. I've been doing VM for over forty

Nothing you do in z/OS has anything to do with your problem. You said that z/OS
messages are coming to your VM terminal and that it z/OS is accepting commands
from the VM terminal. Everything in z/OS is fine and your problem is in VM.

In theory and for the most part, IEFSSREQ can be used in SRB mode. Each
subsystem can process any functions it chooses. I suspect that all reputable
subsystems would make themselves SRB compatible. If you choose

It's been a lot of years but I think you are talking about PROP. Do a search
for VM PROGRAMMABLE OPERATOR and you will find information about setting it up.
You may not even need PROP but it will tell you how to get messages from a VM

Ok, so you want to use the virtual system console. That was what I meant by
"the console on the HMC". Poor terminology on my part.
If you issue D C,L,S you can look for a console with HMCS in the TYPE column.
That is your system console.

I figure that my VM/XA|ESA knowledge is way behind here. So I'd
suggest you contact VM-List. Someone there will tell you how to
do this, and may even tell you how to put this in the guest's

does the IPL, etc. Probably Alan.

Are you trying to connect to the hardcopy SYSLOG device, if one id defined to
z/OS?
Or do you want to connect as a console terminal?
Or do you want to see what would go to the console on the HMC?
Or something else?
What do you get if you issue D C from an operator console on MVS?

Yeah, that's not the answer, alas-if I wanted a 3270 session, I would just log
