Subject: [IBM-MAIN] JES3 to JES2 migration experience

Hi List,

I know this topic has been discussed multiple times, and with the recent SOD on
JES3, I am looking for some hands-on tips or experiences from anyone who has
had the chance of converting from JES3 to JES2.

Can anyone share their experience on what are the most troublesome areas to be
considered for such a migration and how were these handled in your case?

Any gotchas, or areas that get overlooked?

I am reviewing the excellent Redbook from IBM, but would want to supplement
that with some real world experiences.

Thanks
Varun

UK Based GenZ Networking Event on 22nd March 2019

2019-01-26 Thread Mark Wilson
For any younger members of RACF-L and IBMMAIN….

All are welcome, but the event will be held in Bromsgrove, UK…

Mark

Hi all,

Following on from our successful launch at GSE last year, join us on March 22nd
2019, where the first GenZ full day event will take place at RSM Partners,
Bromsgrove. GenZ is a networking group focused entirely on bringing the next
generation of mainframers together, meeting at least twice annually.

One of the most crucial ways to ensure a successful mainframe career is to
build a network across the entire mainframe industry as early on as possible.
The GenZ community enables this, alongside delivering skills that you can put
into practice at your workplace. The day will compromise of guest speakers,
practical workshops, and interactive question and answer sessions, all geared
towards mainframe professionals who are in the early stages of their career.
Genz is strongly focused on building a community first and foremost; this means
no “sales pitches”, an informal dress code, easily digestible material, a later
start date to cater for those requiring travel and even FREE tickets!

To see details of the agenda and confirm your place, please sign up via this
Eventbrite
page.
There are limited spaces left, so book now to avoid disappointment!

Best regards,

Harvi Singh| GenZ Admin

IEFOPZxx Parmlib Members -- Debate at GSE LSG Meeting

2017-03-19 Thread Mark Wilson
John,

Just following up on your comment re your curiosity re IEFOPZxx debate on the
GSE UK LSG Agenda.

We will debate IEFOPZ from two perspectives:

The first being how, why and when to use it, as its one of those topics that
can potentially just slip by if the techies are not paying attention.

The second and the more interesting discussion will be around any potential
security issues that could be exploited, by a rogue user, who has update or
higher access to PARMLIB, couple with some patience or the ability to
dynamically enable this for a given program.

Given they could introduce their own code into the system, there are several
security questions to be asked:

· what security controls are available to us?

· What monitoring solutions are they if this is dynamically changed?

· What controls should/must be deployed?

I have to write a few slides on this over the coming week and may come up with
more questions than answers!

Hope this helps….

PSF Issue

2016-07-11 Thread Mark Wilson
Hi,

We’re trying to print Royal Mail MailMark barcodes which require C40 encoding
throughout.

When we have sent samples to Royal Mail they are being rejected because the c40
Latchcode is in the middle.

Based on my reading this suggests that we are still using default encoding and
not C40 which suggests that the BCXPARMS ENCODE parameter is not working.

We are running PSF 4.3.0 for z/OS and PAGE PRINTER FORMATTING AID/390(PM36617)

(PM36617 being the fix that enabled the BCXPARMS ENCODE parameter for barcodes
but doesn’t mention C40 as an option)

And the device we’re printing to is an IBM Infoprint 4100, ECLEVEL=V12.5.17

I have found documentation on the Web that shows C40 as an option for the
BCXPARMS ENCODE parameter but can’t find any information about what we need to
do to enable that.

We have created a new pagedef and recycled the printer.

GSE UK Annual Conference - Large Systems Stream -- Call For Papers

2015-04-20 Thread Mark Wilson
All,

We are beginning the process to build the agenda for the LSG stream of the next
GSE UK Conference. This event will be held on November 3 4 at Whittlebury
Hall in Northamptonshire.

The LSG stream will comprise 10 sessions across the 2 days (5 x 60 minute
sessions and 5 x 45 minute sessions). The conference has a suggested theme of
'z Systems: The Cloud has a silver lining' though presentation submissions on
any Large Systems topic are welcomed.

If you would like to present at one of these sessions please send your
presentation title, a brief abstract of the presentation and a brief bio of the
presenter to myself (mark.wil...@gse.org.ukmailto:mark.wil...@gse.org.uk) by
the 30th May.

Please remember that the objectives of the Conference are to provide guidance
and education. The GSE policies prohibit presentations that are focused on
selling or promoting a product. Instead, they should focus on technical
issues. As an example, you could discuss a topical issue and how that issue can
be resolved; you could describe enhancements to a product and how they can be
exploited; other possible topics include explaining the mysteries of the
mainframe to new technicians and students.

We look forward to receiving your suggestions for presentations at this year's
conference and to seeing you at the LSG stream.

Regards

2014-02-11 Thread Mark Wilson
All,

We are planning the next GSE LSWG meeting that will be held on the 2nd April
2014.

The most likely venue is IBM Southbank, but that depends on the feedback we get.

The reason for the email is that I am looking for speakers for the day.

Looking for fairly technical sessions that are Large Systems focused.

Would anyone be interested in presenting?

If so, would you let me have a few words by way of an abstract please.

Kind Regards

Once I have organised the agenda for the 18th April I will update the LSG

for these events…..so if you are willing and I hope you all understand what we
are typically looking for can you please let me have you ideas ASAP indicating
which event you would like to present at.
Obviously, the most pressing is the 18th April.
