Rob,
If you ever wondered who is reading your incredible logs, I am! Being
on the west coast, there is no way I can possibly receive most of the
stations you are hearing, but I'm thrilled to read about your amazing
DX-ploits
anyway.
Far and away, the two most successful

In looking at Dr. Xin's site, he reviews the SRF-S83 as being the heir
apparent to the SRF-59 for sound quality on FM, but notes that it is no more
sensitive than the 59. It also uses the CXA1129N chip. He later states
that it has been re-packaged into the SRF-S84. In looking at the internal
The SRF59 easily tops any portable I've used other than the 2010, which
simply isn't fair to the 59, but I hope those who've been so generous
with their praise as to suggest people don't need Drakes or whatever
are exaggerating...
Perhaps your claims of exaggeration are exaggerations. ;) I don't
I get considerable satisfaction using zero

So, has the crystal set ever been hooked to the EWE or BOG? Results?

Craig,
The ewe's and bog's don't provide enough signal strength to power the xtl
set or at least I haven't figured out how to match the impedance. With my
160' end fed random wire, up 70', it gives more than enough juice to work
my set. During last year's xtl radio contest, I i'd 155 MW stations

I believe John heard TP's at Grayland on a regen, not an xtl set.

Meant to say something about Mike Tuggle of Kaneohe Hawaii and his MW xtl

Mike hears RVC, Cuba and deep into the midwest and Deep South from his

No, my TP was with a replica of a vintage 1-tube regenerative set.
Its dead easy to go TP with a so-called 1AD (one-active-device.) One

Mike Tuggle in Hawaii has a separate crystal set he's built just for LF
reception, adding a single jfet transistor as a BFO in order to demodulate
the CW beacons. He's on ndblist, and does hear LF TP signals.
Here's a paste of a recent ndblist report he made--Samoa is on his list.

I didn't realize Mike had modified his exalted carrier set to LW. He used

Hi Gary
As you've mentioned, the Canadian price of the SRF-59 in Canada is about
double that of Amazon ($30 vs $15). However, the opposite is true of
SRF-S84. Sony Canada has the radio for $50.

mail it to them and that would suffice.

Thanks Jim,
I received the same e-mail. Did hear a few blips of

any echo from the moon.
Still, a thrilling experience and one I hope is
repeated sometime again.
