The Asians were nowhere to be found in southern Alberta
this morning. Still a fair number of signals, but none very vibrant,
and all from DU.

this July, our Japanese DXpedition partners Hiroo Nakagawa and Satoshi Miyauchi

With sunset around 4:15 p.m. EST (2115 UTC) late NOV to mid JAN, the bigger

We also get the reverse at sunset -
During the 1994 - 1996 seasons, it was not that uncommon to get TA's
showing up at 3 PM in the afternoon in early winter...
Or Trans-pacifics hanging in until 9 or 10 AM in the morning.

Sunrise enhancement isn't always guaranteed, even here on the west coast. What
we usually have during the TP-DX season is somewhat boosted transoceanic
reception starting at the first sign of daylight, and continuing for different
durations, occasionally until bright
Awesome advice! This morning was *NOT* China friendly -- I count the
morning as China friendly when there is good audio on 1206, 1323 or 1593 --
and that was not the case this morning.
Mornings coming up will get extra special attention on 1566 khz for sure.

I've listened to your HLAZ audio as requested, Colin. Did you have any audio or
carrier from 1593-CNR1 at the time? As mentioned
Richard, here in Arizona I have had no sunrise boost this year at all. In most
years I do get the sunrise boost and at times it has been very good. HLAZ-1566
has been heard 35 minutes past my local sunrise.

In all my years of listening to Asia signals, I've rarely experienced the
so-called "sunrise boost" here. On a few occasions I've heard JOBB-828 for a
few minutes past sun-up. Maybe it's because of the signal traveling some
distance overland.
In the past I've heard JOIB and JOUB
Listened from 1310-1320 UT got up late due to the rain so not much time with
local sunrise at 6:17. Did hear a few with audio and many with carriers.

693 JOAB hrd at 1312 UT very poor with talk.

Asian propagation favored several less common Asians this morning, with another
generous sunrise enhancement bringing audio from 603-HLSA (fair), 657-Pyongyang
(disturbingly strong), 738-BEL2 (fair), 1017 (poor to fair), 1035 (poor) and
1044-CRI (poor to fair). Like yesterday the high band
*I wouldn't say that yesterday was better or worse than yesterday - it was
different. The sunrise boost, as I will illustrate in the logbook*
*was intense, brief and somewhat breathtaking - and I caught it all on
film.*
*Overall, signals may have been down a bit, on average, but the sunrise

Not only is EMWG not being maintained, he had indicated that it would be
removed at some point, perhaps as early as year-end. I since copied it to
pdf although at some point that will be unreliable.

Thanks, Nick. In checking I see that Herman has decided to discontinue
this work. I hadn't known this. The final edition is from December,
2015. It's still available at: http://www.hermanboel.eu/en-emwg-mw1.htm
Not clear why he is discontinuing this. I imagine time is a major factor

a check at the end of MW, most signals about gone. All Asian.

Erratic signals, hard work to dig things out. Also carriers so
close to audio; just need a better imagination. Didn't have
anything like the strength Colin heard on 963 or 1017, but plenty of
other things, including some DUs.
